Why Is Secession Such an Anathema to the Left?

znsq44.jpg

It is high time that the claim to secede at will should be put down by the public opinion; and I shall be glad to see the task commenced by one who understands the subject.

They have the right to do what West Virginia did.

As we have said and sourced before, the Supreme Court has said no you do not have the right to secede.

Lol. You wish. And your party is dismantling, disarming and eroding the integrity of our military as fast as they can.

Yeah until your presidential wannabee started trashing military heroes.

Ok that doesn't even make sense, I have to assume you're under the influence so onto ignore you go.

Say California wants to secede from the union then does.

Then, San Diego wants to secede from California.

Then, Riverside County wants to secede from California

Then, Southern California wants to secede and does

Los Angeles wants to secede and does

Then, San Francisco secedes

Then the Crips in South Central want to secede

Do you understand that they all have the right according to your thinking and how hurtful a move like this would be to the country and its fellow citizens?
One you don't know history. Check into the "birth" of West Virginia. And then there is the current.

It's the courts job to OVER TURN bad law but NOT make new law..

"Despite this background the Court's power of judicial review was not confirmed until 1803, when it was invoked by Chief Justice John Marshall in Marbury v. Madison. In this decision, the Chief Justice asserted that the Supreme Court's responsibility to overturn unconstitutional legislation was a necessary consequence of its sworn duty to uphold the Constitution. That oath could not be fulfilled any other way. "It is emphatically the province of the judicial department to say what the law is," he declared."

James Madison, also present, wrote the document that formed the model for the Constitution.

Other U.S. Founding Fathers were not there, but made significant contributions in other ways. Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence, was serving as ambassador to France at the time of the Convention.

And these two guys who wrote the bulk of the Constitution say you secessionists are full of shit.

Why are you afraid of the federal government?

I am afraid of the corruption that emanates from the unrestrained concentration of political power.

Your turn:

So why is it you liberals are so opposed to school vouchers in states where you don't live? Why must every policy be dictated by the federal government?

Onus is on you to prove that there is "corruption that emanates from the unrestrained concentration of political power" happening in the federal government.

In other words prove that your fears are based on more than just some rightwing disinformation source.

And while you are about prove that "liberals are so opposed to school vouchers in states where you don't live".

Or does that stem from the same rightwing disinformation source?

I bet you did that when you were a little girl too.

"Why Is Secession Such an Anathema to the Left?"

Because, unlike many on the right, liberals know, understand, and respect the Constitution and its case law – in this case Texas v. White, where the Supreme Court held that as a fact of Constitutional law a state may not ‘secede’ absent the consent of all the other states.

Consequently, secession is not ‘anathema’ to liberals; rather, it’s the ignorance and stupidity common to most on the right, the moronic notion that a state or states may ‘leave’ the Union whether the other states agree or not.

Last, liberals correctly understand that this nonsense about ‘secession’ is nothing more than a rightwing temper-tantrum because conservatives didn’t get their way with regard to recent Supreme Court decisions.

I seriously don't understand why the left even bothers to quote the Founding Fathers.

Why did the Founding Fathers leave the British crown? It was all over taxes and the right to bear arms and the desire for someone to actually represent them.

Nuff said.

There is no onus on me to prove anything. I answered your question. Are you intellectually honest enough to answer mine?

Isn't secession the ultimate expression of self-determination? Why are those on the Left so opposed to allowing a difference of opinion? Conservatives think liberals are idiots and would be happy to have them go somewhere else, but the reverse is certainly not true. Liberals want to enforce their conformity on everyone and recoil at the thought of allowing others to follow a different path.

Is this due to an underlying totalitarian streak that are present in most "progressive" policies, or is it a fear of competition from other ideas? As an out-of-state conservative I had no problems with Romneycare in Massachusetts (as long as I didn't have to pay for it). So why is it you liberals are so opposed to school vouchers in states where you don't live? Why must every policy be dictated by the federal government?

What are you afraid of?

If you want one state to leave then you will eventually have another, and another, and another.

Yep. Fine with me. If the guy next door wants to secede from the U.S., that's fine with me.

We'll put some judges on the court who decide otherwise. Better yet, we'll elect a president who will look the other way when a state decides to leave.

Secession doesn't prevent anyone who wants to remain a U.S. citizen from doing so. They'll just have to move if they want to exercise their rights under the Constitution.

I'm not sure what you mean by "defended by the militia." That implies a threat to kill people.

That is so beautifully liberal!

Secession was anathema to James Madison and Thomas Jefferson.

Are James Madison and Thomas Jefferson leftists?

Didn't think so.

OP is built on a false premise.

Really? Jefferson wrote something called "The Declaration of Independence," didn't he?
