Why give the Homeless Tents?

Gawd! Why NOT give homeless Americans tents?

We do that for Haitians and Pakistanis and we give Israelis $6 billion/year so they can commit genocide against some of the poorest people on earth.

If we can do all of that then we can provide dirt cheap tents to Americans who have nothing better as they get evicted from their homes and lose their jobs because WALL STREET took the bailouts after FUCKING OUR ECONOMY INTO THE GROUND!

Maybe we should spend $700 billion on the homeless. They surely contribute more to our nation than the biggest banks do.

We are speaking net not gross. And I didn't make up the shit about bailing out the wealthiest folks on earth after they fucked our economy into the ground.

You're an idiot. Are you saying the majority of Haitians and Pakistanis are mentally ill? The homeless, for the most part, are homeless because they're mentally ill and won't be confined. Morons like you objected to institutionalizing them in the 70s and 80s, so they were turned out on the streets to sink or swim.

YOU are an idiot. We have 100,000 families /week rendered homeless due to foreclosures.

Grow a brain. And a soul.

Homelessness for a certain segment of our society is an integral part of the Conservative vision of America as it should be.

Homeless poor are part of the natural order of Conservative Society.

Any public assistance towards housing given to the poor is a redistribution of wealth, so homelessness reflects the 'proper' condition of the poor, uncontaminated by socialism.

Conservatives want the poor to be homeless. That shows that conservatism is functioning as designed.

Any measures taken by government to alleviate the condition of poverty are anathema to Conservatism. Conservatives believe that ideally, in a society, poverty will reflect its misery in its entirety.

If they don't want the tents let them refuse.

But if we won't even offer tents to homeless millions cast into the cracks by Wall Street barons who killed our economy then we are worth less than Cuba, or North Korea.

Shutting down industry and eliminating jobs killed our economy. The barons, pfft.

Bullshit. The recession began with Bear Stearns and Lehman bros collapse followed by an emergency bailout for the banks in one week, no questions asked or else.

Lol..what a simpleton.

Lol..100,000 families a week suddenly on the streets.

Link that please, moron. Homeless on the street is a different thing than homeless because you got into a house you can't afford and defaulted on the loan. Homeless on the street is quite a bit different than downsizing to your dad's second home, or your sister's spare room, or mom's basement.

I would like to see pics of the hundreds of thousands of homeless families that are suddenly being dumped onto our streets.

In many locations the pigs, sometimes mistaken as the police, use local ordinances for an excuse to come into tent cities and slash them to shreds or simply bulldoze them over, therefore, still left without anywhere to go they will obviously need new tents. In this nation we call this action "To serve and protect".

yo stoner, skipped right over the family and church solution did we?
Right, because everybody has a family they can rely on for support. :doubt:

"Tent" city's are not like a normal "camp ground" where people respect their surroundings. Tent cities are disgusting drug infested trash heaps. The more of them that the police tear down the better.
Yeah, what degenerates these people are. Devious maniacs!

You may not want to use such broad strokes when painting a picture of people who live in tent cities.

Now if an are was set up for "tenters" that provided shower and toilet facilities i would be all for that. BUT they would have to follow rules about cleanliness and drugs.
There is a community in Portland, Oregon which provides those very services. It's a shame more communities don't do the same.

That's not a fair assessment. In the vast majority of cases people who are victims of the sweeping foreclosure rate were taken advantage of by unscrupulous loan officers who waltzed them into adjustable rate mortgages without warning them of the potential for major increases. They could afford the initial payments but did not expect the massive increases that began after the first year and continued relentlessly, vastly outpacing their stagnant wages.

I expect you'll be seeing pictures soon. The situation hasn't reached the saturation level yet but here in Central New Jersey I have seen two "camps" where people who don't have a relative's or friend's spare room or basement to resort to are living in tents.

This situation is largely the consequence of three decades of Reaganomics and the deregulated banking and finance industries. The era of economic strength and stability has been sabotaged and America is being reverted to the kind of sociopolitical circumstances that brought about the Great Depression.

Right now the economic situation is grave but not dire. The Nation is fourteen trillion dollars in debt and we are barely making the interest payments. The potential for default is very real. If that happens you'll be seeing more than you'd ever expected to see. And it is possible that you might be feeling it as well.

Oh lord, you're from Portland. That explains so much.

eventually demand more from the citys.
And somehow we'll be powerless to say no to them because they live in tents?

Why work when you give them a home and free meals?

Because living in a tent sucks. Any more questions?

Still waiting for the evidence that 100,000 FAMILIES are moving to the streets a WEEK.

What utter crap.

PS, conservatives, and Christians, have traditionally and personally spent more money and time on displaced populations than anybody.

I'd love to know what Bones and Shittout do for a living.

So 100,000 families a week was an ass number.

What a surprise.

You've spent a lot of time rationalizing really bad economic policies, haven't you? And finding a way to blame somebody else for the fact that you really don't want to look at homeless people or be personally responsible for them in any degree. :clap2:

It's possible they give them tents because.....I don't know...they are homeless? The government should be doing more for it's people. That's what it's here for, the people. Of the people, by the people, FOR THE PEOPLE. As a member of the CPUSA, I donate a little less than half of my check to the homeless shelter, but we honestly need more.

This response to my message suggests that either you have a reading comprehension problem or you read what you wish to rather than what is written.

.

So what you're saying is, although Conservatives publicly proclaim that giving handouts to the poor discourages them from getting jobs, and perpetuates poverty, and really does more harm than good,

behind the scenes, privately, Conservatives more than anyone else are doing more of what they publicly denounce?

That sounds a bit inconsistent.

Just when I thought right wingers could go no lower, they surprise me. Some of the comments here are outrageous.

Do the majority of Republicans even have a "high school diploma"? How many "Republicans" live in "tent cities"? Looks like a lot of those people are "white".

In fact, how many USMB members are living from paycheck to paycheck? They might want to be "careful" who they point fingers at.

That wasn't me who said that, and I've never heard that claim before.

Silly, wrong assumption. I grew up in the burbs of Saint Louis, but moved west. Though I've been in the rough parts of Saint Louis city and it isn't pretty. Poverty there is everywhere and not all of these people are welfare queens, drug addicts or moochers. There's no industry there, no hope and unemployment is rampant. It's a dire situation in some of these rust belt, post-industrial cities.
