Why are conservatives losing?!?!?

They still have a strong base, but they can't compete in the long run.

It comes down to 4 issues that turn the middle on them:
(1) Healthcare: I get it single payer and government run health insurance we 'hear' is a disaster, yet European countries will not do away with it any time soon. However you never get a plan other than status quo. I hear the sell across state lines bullshit, but those insurers have to follow state law and I guarantee this added competition wouldn't change a thing, but it is a great talking point. Second you hear health savings accounts. Which are already hear and while good aren't even close to the answer. Obaminationcare is bad but it at least go rid of the insurer practice of pre-existing condition riders (meaning once your sick no one would insure you), drop you after you get sick and skyrocket rates after you get sick. Obaminationcare is bad, but status quo was horrible also. Conservatives lose many middle class voters on this issue, because they never present any real plan.

(2) Abortion: You used to be able to hold the stance, ban on later term abortions and no abortions after 1 trimester except for rape, incest or mother's life is in danger. Now during the primaries the only acceptable stance is "no abortion, no exceptions. Not for rape or incest victims, not if the fetus has birth defects, not for teenagers and some won't even allow if the mother's life is in danger. Sorry but this turns off many independents and women.

(3) Higher Education: Most jobs require a college degree. The few that don't are lower paying and in shrinking industries, such as manufacturing. The fact of the matter is higher education cost upwards of $120k. Young people start their lives in a boatload of debt. These are voters who hear one side at least talk about trying to forgive debt, help pay for it and lower rates.

Then you have the GOP who complain about what the colleges charge and basically stop there. They wouldn't pass the bill to lower interest rates. While there are good arguments why they did that. Voters with student loan debt only saw that republicans voted against saving students money.

As Republicans continue to lose on this issue, they continue to create New Democrats.

(4) Gun control: Every mass shooting you hear, don't blame guns blame the perpetrators. True on many cases, but in reality many in the middle want a balance between gun ownership and safety.

Until Republicans start finding a way to solve these issues for the masses they won't compete I the swing states and further red states will turn blue like VA, CO and NV. Right now the only way for Trump to win is if he turns 1 of 2 left leaning state (PA or MI) and wins FL or OH.

Blast me if you want, but these are the 4 issues that the GOP needs to get serious about if they don't want to go the way of the Whigs.

Thank you for your honest assessment.
I would add some sort of comprehensive reform of the immigration system. It shouldn't take a decade or more to get a green card. Get these people on the books and paying taxes.

You should have had some of the number 3) on your list... no wait, actually number 2) would have been appropriate for you.

Condensed version of the list...

Those that fought the British crown in the American Revolution were outnumbered by those who did not support them.

If you want to rule with majority rule, then someone like Hitler is your guy. Hitler was the first modern day Progressive. He created a centralized government and funneled all the money to two sources, welfare and the military. This way he kept the support of a war weary populace as he ran up so much debt the government would have become insolvent had they not gone to war.

Hitler also wanted gun control, was an ardent environmentalists and animal rights activist, and he hated Jews, something modern day Progs seem to have in common.

The battle between liberalism and conservatism is the battle between progress and stagnation. Liberals have always stood for freedom and progress, and conservatives for maintaining the status quo.

Hilter wasn's a liberal, he was an extreme right-wing authoritarian dictator. Nazism is a right-wing belief system. Notice how today's Nazi's, the skinheads and the white supremacists, are all members of the right-wing Republican Party.

Wait....wut?

Kindly refrain from throwing the terms "left" and "right" around. They both refer to dictatorial collectivists regimes. Really, the only difference between the communists and Nazis was, the Nazi regime opted not to take over industry in name, but controlled them much the same anyway. Both threw all their money into the military and the nanny state to overt an uprising. Hitler feared an uprising because one had occurred during WW1, so he made sure that Germans had a higher standard of living than even in the US. Hitler knew that everyone had a price, whether it be a free Obamaphone or free abortions etc.

Hitler once said, "Why nationalize industry when you can nationalize the people?" Hitler understood that bureaucrats make lousy CEO's, however, he made sure that they were still under his thumb and pulled their strings as if he was their boss.

This is the model the US has adopted, the Hitler model. The Fed is a private business? LOL. Fanny Mae and Freddy MAC are both private businesses? LOL.

What a joke.

Today US citizens are also war weary, just like the German people during WW2, and also willing to be bought by voting for the same clowns that institutionalize never ending war abroad cuz they like the "free stuff".

No offense intended, but aren't you dead? But hey, what difference does it make. The dog in my avatar has been dead for 13 long years.

Yes, Gene is dead. Hillary was reading my posts when all of a sudden she got on the phone and........well, you probably can piece the rest together yourself.

At least he was not found dead in bed with a pillow over his face.

RIP Gene Wilder

Hey clueless hack!

Who has control of the House and Senate? Who has the most state governors?

How are you that stupid and still able to use technology to broadcast your stupidity?

Who hasn't passed a single major piece of legislation advancing the conservative agenda in years? Oh right, the GOP.

Irrelevant. The OP said we were losing and have been. I proved it wrong. Fact.

You lost on same sex marriage. You lost on healthcare. You lost on gays in the military. You lost on abortion. You lost on tax cuts for the rich.
Huh? We haven't even begun to fight my little fascist friend....

Really? The GOP has had an anti-abortion amendment plank in their platform for decades?

And btw, when will your fight to throw gays out of the military begin?

And most of the country is 48th in the world in terms of public education and probably thinks the US has 57 states.

The above might also explain the reason normal people don't vote for anyone the person above would vote for.

Ever wonder if liberalism is a mental disorder? Conservatives won the biggest mid term victory in modern history in the last election and liberals have convinced themselves that "conservatives are losing". You almost gotta laugh.

WRONG, it comes down to one issue. They are losing because they (we) have weak and incompetent leadership who are more concerned with their political future than the future of our constitutional republic.

Basically, I think that's right. I differ a bit on education. It's true that the gop is searching for policy, but throwing money at it is not a policy either, and that's the dem response. We have kids at community colleges taking out loans and not bothering to do the work, because they have absolutely no intention of paying the money back. Just giving them the money solves nothing. And for the kids who did get degrees that are worth the paper, and who are paying the loans ... the dem's play sucks. And, btw, that's how the gop beats the dems on any issue. The dems consistently reward bad behavior: welfare for example.

Abortion is a no brainer. The consensus by the maj has been consistent for at least 16 years. Why the gop chooses to swim against the stream is a mystery. Well it's no mystery. The party chooses the 1% financial interests over the middle class, and offers social wedge issues to quiet the masses.

We lose when we go "repeal and replace" instead of having a better policy in the first place, but any policy requires the govt to do something ... which is against the1%'s financial interests.

I'm not sure the 2nd Amend is really costing the gop many votes. We've won the war, and Heller is not going to be overturned. The reality now is that restrictions on ownership are a state and even local issue, that has to pass judicial review under Heller
‘Throwing money’ at a problem is not the ‘dem response.’

The propensity to lie is another problem with conservatives and republicans.

1. Most people who call themselves "conservative" are extreme right
2. Most of the country is left of center
3. Most of the country is for immigration reform
4. Most of the country is pro choice
5. Most of the country understands climate. Hangs is an issue.
6. Most of the country wants reasonable background checks and rational gun policy that isn't set by the NRA shills.
7. Most people believe that the lives of people of color are not disposable.
8. Most of the country believes in equal pay for equal work.
9. Most of the country believes in marriage equality
10. Most of the country knows that the confederate flag is a symbol of bigotry and shave ownership.
11. Most of the country believes that everyone should have access to health care
12. Most of the country believes in rational immigration reform.

Does that answer your question dear?
The American people don’t want to return to a time when women were forced to give birth against their will through force of law or being gay was considered ‘criminal.’

The American people don’t want to return to a time of fear and bigotry that republicans, for the most part, seek to reinstate.

ESHI is a labor union boondoggle that is damaging us badly. That was the very first thing which tipped me off to ObamaCare being a con when I read the first draft: The fact it more deeply embedded ESHI.
ESHI allows for collective negotiation for insurance rates. Individuals are too easily steamrolled in negotiations. Try sometime taking an insurer to court on your own. You'll be good and dead before you even get a hearing. I've looked at buying my own coverage versus going with ESHI and even if I could negotiate the company to give me a dollar for dollar raise for the part of their contribution, I'd be on the losing side of that exchange.

ESHI isn't going anywhere until we have a single payer system. Which is part of why we will end up there. Eventually the corporations will want to be rid of ESHI and the employees won't be able to afford it. Once that happens, the political pressure will simply be too much to avoid it any longer.

Or we could figure out how much money corporations save by the ESHI tax savings, collect that money from corporations or shareholders, and use it so every worker or dependent can access wellness care though a personal tax credit ... and let them shop for where they get that care.

That was basically a gop idea. Use tax policy to get the most into a market based system. But I agree, the gop lost the debate (actually they chose to support the status quo that benefited the 1%) and we are on the way to single payer.
Two problems there:

The GOP will never support a plan that looks like a tax on corporations to benefit individuals. There is literally no way that plan flies.

Second: tax credits for purchases don't really help the poor buy things like insurance. They'd have to have the money to be refunded. It's a non-starter. Tax credits for poor at best create a one time windfall. There's a lot on the psychology of poverty you can look up that backs that up.

Hey clueless hack!

Who has control of the House and Senate? Who has the most state governors?

How are you that stupid and still able to use technology to broadcast your stupidity?

And how did they get control of the House and Senate - Gerrymandering. Now that the SC has ruled that voters can petition to have districts drawn by geography, and that voters get to choose the candidate, not the other way around, we'll see how many seats Republicans hold by the end of the 2018 elections.

If you can't see that the Republican Party is totally fractured and is not going back together again any time soon, you are too stupid to be one person.

Moron. Nobody gerrymanders more than the democrats. The GOP is fractured but that is irrelevant to our discussion.
Bullshit. I'm sure you'll dispute this because it comes from a prestigious university rather than the hacks at Fox News but Republicans gerrymander way more than Democrats.

Gerrymanders, Part 1: Busting the both-sides-do-it myth

Democrat Corrinne Brown's district 5, the very definition of Gerrymandering:

The public doesn't buy into your four strawman issues, especially abortion. No pro life opinion is to let the mother die to save a baby. That's just one of the lies Leftists claim to represent our opinion.
