The Political Compass

Both an economic dimension and a social dimension are important factors for a proper political analysis. By adding the social dimension you can show that Stalin was an authoritarian leftist (ie the state is more important than the individual) and that Gandhi, believing in the supreme value of each individual, is a liberal leftist. While the former involves state-imposed arbitrary collectivism in the extreme top left, on the extreme bottom left is voluntary collectivism at regional level, with no state involved. Hundreds of such anarchist communities exisited in Spain during the civil war period

You can also put Pinochet, who was prepared to sanction mass killing for the sake of the free market, on the far right as well as in a hardcore authoritarian position. On the non-socialist side you can distinguish someone like Milton Friedman, who is anti-state for fiscal rather than social reasons, from Hitler, who wanted to make the state stronger, even if he wiped out half of humanity in the process.

The chart also makes clear that, despite popular perceptions, the opposite of fascism is not communism but anarchism (ie liberal socialism), and that the opposite of communism ( i.e. an entirely state-planned economy) is neo-liberalism (i.e. extreme deregulated economy)

Option B:

So just Avatar and myself have an opinion? How strange...with the anonymity of the internet you would think others would have an opinion.

You don't allow much response time for those of us who are not hungrily awaiting your next brain blurp. :D

I say both, accordingly... A is what many seem to want 'us' to see and know, but B fits in how so many are equipped to understand. :dunno:
The OP's point is one in which the Founder's had in mind (B), versus the parsing of what we've become and the second-guessing...(A)

did you just say anarchy is the same as socialism? LOL.

Are you talking to me? if so explore the link I provided for visual aids and more info on the political compass before commenting further.

A is based on political science.
B is so deeply flawed that is almost like an unfunny joke..

So A.

So what are the flaws?

And what political science is A based on?

Do you seriously not see it? It seems to suggest that all dictators, fascist or communist, are leftists, WTF? Does the person who made this seriously think that there is no such thing as a right wing authoritarian government? Do you?

Would it really matter to the people if a authoritarian gov't was right wing or left wing or "middle wing" for that matter?
No doubt all authoritarian gov'ts evolve into the same oppressive statist machine

Hayek defined Fascism :

"It is simply collectivism freed from all traces of an individualist tradition which might hamper its realization"

Option A makes some sense.

Option B has an obvious agenda and is clearly ridiculously partisan.

I would still like to know the origin of B. I am very interested in the various political spectrum systems and have heard some outlandish things but B takes the cake. It is intentionally designed to mislead.

well, it seems like brushing up on your American history would be a good start. I'd start with the pre-revolutionary days. Have fun!

Hmm, I fall slight left of center, towards the bottom.

Mostly due to my stance on religion I expect.

It's a shame that (alleged) Americans in the 21st century would become so ignorant that they would question the political philosophy of their own Country.

an ad hominem argument does not mean it is wrong

one could argue that both have some agenda in them

No, this poll will show, once again, that this board is primarily radical right.
