Ted Cruz--would you still vote for him?

As we know Ted Cruz was the right wing darling of the Republican party, prior to getting kicked to the curb in the southern bible belt for Trump. That area was supposed to be his stronghold and the path to the nomination in 2016.

Right now Ted Cruz is in the fight of his life down in Texas with Beto O'Rourke, who has outraised Cruz by millions. but is still behind in the polls by anywhere from 4 to 7 points.
RealClearPolitics - Election 2018 - Texas Senate - Cruz vs. O'Rourke

My problem with Ted Cruz is--that he is nothing more than a political opportunist. I really didn't like that he said NO to everything, and continually grasped the opportunity to threaten to shut down the government at every opportunity--(when the debt ceiling needed to be raised.) But since Trump is in office the debt ceiling can be raised to whatever amount and he's O.K. with it. Not a peep out of him.

Cruz continually threatened to defund Obamacare, thereby leaving millions that were forced onto this program without insurance overnight. Now he knew dam well that Republicans ({Paul Ryan) would not do that for the above reason, but he played that hand so often it became ridiculous. It pitted Republicans against Republicans. The words Rino & Establishment Republicans were invented because of Ted Cruz. It outraged his right wing base, and their anger was directed at other Republicans. In fact on many right wing talk show programs, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity & others-- Republicans were attacked more often than Democrats, all because of the antics, & personal political goals of Ted Cruz. Senate Republicans got to where they couldn't stand him.

Cruz even read Green Eggs & Ham on the Senate floor over Obamacare. One of the most bizare scenes ever to be played out on the U.S. Senate floor.

But I think the most disturbing thing about Ted Cruz. Is he endorsed a man (Trump) who continually called him "lying Ted", insulted his wife Heidi, and even stated that his father was a co-conspirator in the assassination of JFK. To me, that shows a weakness of character that is unmatched by NONE. Would you have done the same?

I thinks Texas deserves a working Senator and not a political opportunist.

We shall see.

The lie the Democrats continue with is that people will be without healthcare if Obamacare is gone. That's not true and you know it. No one goes without healthcare in this country.

I thought the ACA was dead and gone? Man, nobody knew healthcare could be so complicated :(

Everything gets complicated when the Federal Government takes over. Complicated and inefficient.

He’s no different than any other politician. And if you’re in Texas and are considering voting for his Dem opponent then you don’t understand how things work in congress. Party trumps person. If you have either conservative or liberal convictions you should always vote the party that most aligns with your convictions regardless of the person running.

So if Ted Cruz fucks a little kid, you damn well turn the other cheek and ask him for more. Since it'll help your party.

No, but it IS what YOU would do.

Because character doesn't matter.

That's one bit of reality that the Reality Show President has convinced his followers to admit.

Political parties actually used to be able
to work together to get things done. We're now in an era where it's nothing more than Team Sports.

In this way they can just tag they're talking points to reflect every candidate. "Democrats will cease your guns, Republicans don't like clean air & water."

Which is why Hamilton never wanted political parties. Because you're no longer voting for the best candidate. You're probably not even listening to the best candidate, you're now simply voting for the R or D behind someone's name, which is what is wrong with this country in the first place.

There's lots of ear candy out there that you'll never get, yet the R's and D's are out there in force campaigning and making promises anyway.

Ted Cruz is well noted for doing that, and he even turned on his own team for nothing more than personal political gain.

I get your points and share your frustration, but I can’t imagine any political structure existing with out sides and alliances being made. I do share your feelings toward the current state of the parties which is why I am an unaffiliated voter. People become more concerned with their party winning than their core values being represented. I see it on this message board everyday. I call my self conservative, but support abortion rights, gay rights, and don’t trust big religion.

He’s no different than any other politician. And if you’re in Texas and are considering voting for his Dem opponent then you don’t understand how things work in congress. Party trumps person. If you have either conservative or liberal convictions you should always vote the party that most aligns with your convictions regardless of the person running.

you should always vote the party that most aligns with your convictions regardless of the person running.
i go with the PERSON that most aligns with my convictions.....fuck the party bullshit...

You just laid out the exact reasons why the political party system is outdated and a detriment to our democracy.

No, you’re wrong on several fronts. It’s not outdated, what has changed in your mind to think it is outdated? And how are you going to do away with political parties n politics?

Technology has made the party system outdated. We no longer need carrier pigeon and the lone newspaper article to learn about what candidates are running on. We can go to their websites, watch streaming videos, or tune into the hundreds of outlets that contain that information so we can make our judgements based on the individual and not try and mold the individuals into the ideology of our corrupt political parties.

I’d start the change by doing a comprehensive reform on campaign finances and regulations.

Ted Cruz campaigns on party loyalty--but he's not a party loyalist. Like I said I know it's hard for some to admit TRUTH but he is nothing more than a political opportunist, who has used his position for personal political gain and one--who has caused a severe split in the Republican party by continally attacking other Republicans. To the point that he actually called Mitch McConnell a liar on the Senate floor. That was nothing more than for SHOW. To get his base stirred up.

You might want to spend the next 20 minutes reading this. Right wing talk show hosts, Sean Hannity & Rush Limbaugh were encouraged by Ted Cruz. Little did Cruz know that his strategy would backfire on him in 2016.
Donald Trump broke the conservative media

Here’s the problem with that approach. The majority party sets and guides the agenda, They also get most of the committee chairs, so even if your guy were Jesus Christ himself, if his party is not the majority, his influence is minimal at best. Why do you suppose each party wants the majority so bad?

For those short term memory demos, Trump and Cruz have made amends. Unlike how much nObama and Crooked Hillary still hate each other. Now that this guy who's apparently nicknamed "beto" to pander is bought and paid for by those unhinged celebs(Rosie and Kathy Griffin), the swam DNC, and for sure Soros. This can boost Ted much more.
