The U.S. Capitol Police arrested a tea party demonstrator who spat on Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri. Cleaver, who is a Reverend and who will preach at a service tomorrow morning before Congress votes on health care, was walking to a vote when the incident occurred. In most jurisdictions spitting is considered an assault.


These are all the details I know right now. This incident was reported to me by Joyce Jones of Black Enterprise who spoke w Rep Cleaver directly before President Obama spoke to House Democrats.

1. This is a phony story and one started to try and whip up antagonism against people exercising their first amendment rights -who happen to be of the "wrong" political persuasion. The same smear mongers we've been see operate for the last eight years are still at it trying to personally destroy those who oppose them, hoping this kind of phony story will undermine the movement that has only been gaining ground. And pretending there is a racist element at its core has always been the typical tactic of the left. Anyone else actually involved with a grassroots movement for the purpose of expressing their first amendment rights who holds different political views -is a TERRORIST in your world. By revealing your own hatred and contempt for those who hold different political opinions than your own -you only imitate the Democrats in Congress who show their own arrogant contempt for the American people on a daily basis.

This is SUCH an obviously made-up story and Cleaver was chosen as an obvious stand-in for Obama since everyone knows that Obama would never get within spitting range of anyone from the Tea Parties in the first place. But SOMEONE with a black skin was needed for this story for maximum kneejerk response -and I'm sure you stepping in as their useful idiot is much appreciated. So Reid and Pelosi weren't the chosen targets of this phony story even though they are the most recognizable Democrats in Congress pushing legislation opposed by the majority. It is a BLACK Democrat who gets spit on -and one who isn't much of a news maker even in his home state and NOT someone known for doing much of anything, much less anything that controversial. THAT is the guy chosen to be the victim who supposedly gets spit on. Someone the average person is highly unlikely to recognize at all, much less pick him out as a likely candidate for being spit on. Sure -and I have some lovely but slightly damp property for sale at a bargain price.

Except that Cleaver did NOT walk through Tea Party crowds AT ALL to go cast a vote because they were given permission to only gather in a specific place AWAY from where members of Congress would be leaving or entering as they went about their business! Regardless of the issues involved for why a group requests a permit to gather near the Capitol building, White House or government grounds -they are NEVER allowed to gather anywhere near where members of Congress would be entering or leaving as they go about their business. No exceptions. They don't get to gather where members of Congress would risk being confronted by them. Period. And strictly enforced. Just like anti-war crowds were never allowed to gather where members of Congress would risk being confronted by them either. Cleaver, like every other Democrat in Congress, avoided this crowd LIKE THE PLAGUE, no Democrat went anywhere near these people and only a handful of Republican members of Congress went out of their way to speak to the crowd. So I doubt Cleaver got spit on at all in the first place. But IF he did, odds are it was his ex-wife.

2. Your bullshit statement that this kind of "hatred and contempt" has no place in the public square has to be one of the most nauseatingly hypocritical statements you could come up with given the fact we have all had to put with the near nonstop VILE rantings and expression of PERSONAL hatred by the left -even as they kept insisting what wonderful "patriots" they really were by screeching and ranting about their PERSONAL hatred. These are the people who insisted THIS is how its done in this country -REMEMBER? LOL Oh but I forgot -only if it is the LEFT and they are screaming about how much they personally hate those with different political views is that "patriotism". And if its those with other political views who gather to protest about the FACT their own representatives are refusing to carry out the will of the people and have forgotten that bit about CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED - those are people who are actually TERRORISTS! Guess that means more than half the country are either terrorists or terrorist sympathizers then because more than half the people approve of what the Tea Party people are doing -which has a higher approval rating than either Democrats or Republicans. Which is why Congress has an approval rating of just 18%! Pelosi can only wish she had Bush's approval ratings because Bush at his lowest was still higher than hers.

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Missouri, released a statement late Saturday saying he too was called the "N" word as he walked to the Capitol for a vote and that he was spat on by one protestor who was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police. Cleaver declined to press charges against the man, the statement said.

Protesters also hurled anti-gay comments at Rep. Barney Frank, D-Massachusetts, who is openly gay, as he left the same health care meeting that Lewis attended in a House office building.

A CNN producer overheard the word "faggot" yelled at Frank several times in the lobby of the Longworth building. Frank said he heard someone yell "homo" at him.

"I'm disappointed," Frank said. "There's an unwillingness to be civil."

Frank, who said he rarely hears such slurs anymore, said the health care issue has become "the proxy for a lot of other sentiments. A lot of which are perfectly reasonable but some of which are kind of ugly."

This afternoon, the Congressman was walking into the Capitol to vote, when one protester spat on him. The Congressman would like to thank the US Capitol Police officer who quickly escorted the other Members and him into the Capitol, and defused the tense situation with professionalism and care.

After all the Members were safe, a full report was taken and the matter was handled by the US Capitol Police. The man who spat on the Congressman was arrested, but the Congressman has chosen not to press charges. He has left the matter with the Capitol Police.
