All I have seen them accompliishing so far, is weakening the GOP by splitting the GOP into smaller groups who do not agree with each other's views. Meanwhile, the majority of Independent voters still see the Tea Party movement as fringe.

I can't post the link, but a recent Rasmussen Reports poll showed that:

Among unaffiliated voters, 43% have a favorable opinion of the Tea Party efforts while 20% say the opposite.

VaYank i'll give you my 2 cents but I have to finish a brake job on a maxima first so I have time to read that article fully before responding.

The short of it is if the republican party thinks they can co-opt the growing tea party element they will get hurt badly come election day. We don't like the democrats plan and we only view republicans as a "stop-gap" to the democrat supermajority, we dont like the republicans actions for the same reason we dont like the dems plan.

Cocerning Third parties and American History


Third parties become prominent during times of large social unrests, and small national Debt!!


The periods when Parties emerged were during periods when Natinal debt was less than 20% of GDP and other issues(such as slavery, abolution and women suffrage) dominated politics.


Right now, he main social issues facing our republic are old--Abortion, the homosexual lifestyle, global terrorism, and the recession. Unfortunately, only abortion has the true quality of forming a morally based social unrest, and it looks like that issue has been resolved on the surface.

The concept of starting and winning with a third party based on deficits and debt is a bit of fantasy. Every party is concerned about the debt, but none has the political will power to confront it due to the fact that it involves cutting programs or tax hikes. Face the Facts. High taxes and drastic Government spending cuts is not a winning political platform no matter how you phrase it.
