You may want to take a history class as the Soviets were supplying the North Vietnamese. And South Vietnam was invaded in 1975 April by 25 North Vietnamese Divisions. Unified Vietnam went on to take Laos and ally with Cambodia. However the fighting in Cambodia and Laos was to much for them and then they had border issues with China. Resulting in armed conflict on several occasions.

Interestingly enough, Eisenhower's solution was to raise the infrastructure of this nation from dirt roads to paved highways.
