Absolutely. Most of that isn't for emotional damages, it's punative damages in order to force Trump to comply with the court decision. He went to court and the jury and the law found him liable for defamation. The purpose of the lawsuit and monetary damages beyond the harm his defamatory statements caused, is to compel Trump to stop his defamation. The lawyers for Carroll used Trump's own claims about his wealth and examples of his continued defamation of Carroll while the trial for damages was going on, as reasons for why the penalty needed to be that high in order to compel someone like Trump, with the resources he has, to desist with his defamation.

Who said he was criminally guilty of rape? He was found civilly liable for lying about the victim of his sexual assault. Now while there is no law barring a civilly liable defamer of his own victim of sexual assault, it is a pretty clear indication of being a deplorable mutant to vote for that.

The second compensatory damages was based on $6M in injuries and $12M based on expert testimony in the cost of repairing the damage at the national level. National level is important because FPOTUS#45 got to defame her at the national level through the office of the President.

So we can see the increase in damages is mostly due to the punitive damage increase because FPOTUS#45 ignored the first ruling.

To put this in perspective. $3M in punitive damages is 0.17% of net worth. $65M in punitive is 2.167% of net worth. To someone who makes $100,000, that is equivalent to punitive damages of $170 for the first ruling and $2,167 for the second ruling.

So the question becomes are punitive damages of 0.17% and 2.167% excessive?
