Remember America, Before Pelosi?

yes, I remember the time before Pelosi, when Bush allowed the illegals to run wild and he stated there was nothing he could do about it.

Well it looks like obama hasn't been able to do anything about it either....
So he's just going to give up and let them stay.....besides, it gives him more supporters.

Just depends on what your definition of 'effective' is, I guess!

Pelosi - in her first official act, took the young person's minimum wage a whopping 40%.

.

That minimum wage bill had 4.8 trillion dollars worth of small business tax cuts in it.

We had virtual full employment at the time of her legislation.

What is the young persons unemployment rate now?

Nancy Pelosi Ranked Among Greatest House Speakers by Experts

"While right now she is overshadowed by this thumping, she's going to rank quite high in the pantheon of modern speakers" of the last 100 years, said Norman Ornstein, a congressional scholar at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. Only Texas Democrat Sam Rayburn, the longest-serving speaker in history whose parliamentary maneuvers cleared the way for passage of civil rights and social legislation in the 1960s, ranks higher

Yet historians and nonpartisan political observers who take the long view say Pelosi stands out among the 52 lawmakers who have held the job set forth in Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution. And not just because all the others were men.

"The last Congress in particular has been remarkable in its productivity -- in both the number of bills enacted and their scope -- and Pelosi shares much of the credit," said Matthew Green, a political scientist at Catholic University of America and author of "The Speaker of the House: A Study of Leadership."

the list of legislation she saw through in her short time as speaker is long. An economic stimulus bill. Financial regulation. Expanded student aid. An expanded G.I. bill for veterans. And, above all else, health care reform. Green calls it her "single greatest legislative achievement."

"Pelosi almost single-handedly pushed the bill through the House in its final stages, lobbying reluctant lawmakers up to the final minutes to vote for it," Green said. "Without her leadership, the bill very likely would have died."

(Signed into Law)

SMALL BUSINESS JOBS ACT, landmark legislation providing $12 billion in tax relief for small businesses by enacting 8 more small business tax cuts on top of the 8 already enacted by this Congress; creating up to 500,000 jobs, by leveraging up to $300 billion in private sector lending for small businesses through a $30 billion lending fund for community banks; fully paid for – doesn’t add a dime to the deficit. (Signed into Law)

STUDENT AID & FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT, making the largest investment in college aid in history – increasing Pell Grants, making college loans more affordable, and strengthening community colleges – while reducing the federal deficit by ending wasteful student loan subsidies to banks. (Signed into Law)

WORKER, HOMEOWNERSHIP & BUSINESS ASSISTANCE ACT, boosting the economy and creating jobs with more unemployment benefits for Americans hit by the recession, an expanded 1st-time homebuyer tax credit, and enhanced small business tax relief—expanded to all struggling U.S. businesses. CURRENCY REFORM/FAIR TRADE, to promote U.S. manufacturing jobs, by giving our government effective tools to address the unfair trade practice of currency manipulation by foreign countries, including China; their undervalued currency makes Chinese exports cheaper and America’s exports to China more expensive, putting U.S. manufacturers at an unfair disadvantage; bill is WTO-compliant. (Passed by House)

WALL STREET REFORM, historic reforms to end taxpayer-funded bailouts and the idea of ‘too big to fail’, and protect and empower consumers to make the best decisions on mortgages, credit cards, and their own financial future. Lack of accountability for Wall Street and big banks cost 8 million jobs. (Signed into Law)

CREDIT CARDHOLDERS’ BILL OF RIGHTS, providing tough new protections already saving consumers money—like banning unfair rate hikes, abusive fees, and penalties—and strengthening enforcement. (Signed into Law)

LILLY LEDBETTER FAIR PAY ACT, restoring the rights of women and other workers to challenge unfair pay—to help close the wage gap where women earn 78 cents for every $1 a man earns in America. (Signed into Law)

FHA REFORM, to shore up federal mortgage insurance in order to expand homeownership opportunities by making essential reforms to strengthen the financial footing of the Federal Housing Administration, saving taxpayers $2.5 billion over 5 years. (Passed by House)

AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, landmark legislation prohibiting insurance companies from discriminating against Americans with pre-existing conditions and dropping coverage when you get sick and need it most; lowering costs for privately-insured middle class families and small businesses; strengthening Medicare and lowering seniors’ prescription drug costs; creating up to 4 million jobs; and reducing the deficit by the largest amount in almost two decades, while ensuring affordable coverage for 32 million more Americans. (Signed into Law)

RESPONSE TO BP OIL SPILL, a bill providing a comprehensive response to BP oil spill – eliminating the $75 million cap on the liability of oil companies, restoring the Gulf Coast and protecting local residents, imposing new safety requirements and strengthening oversight of offshore drilling, and protecting whistleblowers in offshore drilling industry who report safety violations. (Passed by House)

REPEAL OF DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL, to provide for the repeal of this outdated policy, contingent on the certification that military review completed and repeal will not impact readiness. (Signed into Law)

STRENGTHENING NEW GI BILL, making these veterans’ education benefits for college easier to use; covering vocational, technical and on-the-job training, as well as more National Guardsmen. (Signed into Law)

Clinton raised the minimum wage twice in 96 and 97; in 3 years we had full employment. How is that possible if there's any correlation between raising the minimum wage and unemployment?

Of course we needed to pass the bill to know what was in it. At the time, there were TWO healthcare bills. One in the House and one in the Senate.......NOBODY could have known what the eventual healthcare bill would look like

Elections have consequences.

No, you're constructing a fallacy based solely on the claim that if Event A was followed by Event B,

then Event A must have caused Event B.

It's time you stopped pretending you know what logical fallacies are.

Nancy Pelosi was one of the most effective Speakers of the House in the last 50 years. Her resume of passing legislation which stopped a depression, saving the auto companies, passing the first universal healthcare program, repealing DADT and financial reform place her as one of our top speakers

Compared to John Boehner who accomplished no major legislation and presided over the most ineffective Congress in history. Boehner has been unable to gain consensus in his own party, let alone with the Democrats. He presided over a Congress which couldn't pass a budget, nearly shut down the Government and defaulted on our debt while obstructing legislation which would have helped Americans suffering in a bad economy
It must be a real thorn in your side John Boehner prevented Sheik Barack Obama from the complete dismantling of the financial community of America as al Qaeda desired.

/snicker.

Depending on what happens in the next six weeks John Boehner may go down as the worst Speaker of the House in history

Unless he can forge a bipartisan consensus to resolve the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, sequestration and a raise to the debt ceiling, Boehner will be labeled as a mere figurehead speaker

Boehner has no legislative achievements, couldn't pass a budget and has been ineffective in both controlling his own party and achieving bipartisan cooperation

Speaking of passing Budgets:

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved a $3.5 trillion budget plan proposed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on a 228 to 191 vote, largely along party lines. The House vote breakdown was 228 Republicans in favor, 181 Democrats and 10 Republicans opposed.

Any comment on this?

Sunday marked the third year in a row that the Democratic-controlled Senate failed to pass a budget. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has completely abdicated his responsibility to the American people. Make no mistake, Reid has done this with the implicit support of President Obama. Why have the Democrats sat on their hands while our economy suffers and 23 million Americans are looking for jobs? They have done so because it is politically expedient.

Bush signed the minimum wage bill in 2007. If it caused the recession (which it did not) then it's entirely the fault of Bush, who had the power to stop it.
