Question for those pushing a "living wage"

You know.....................if the minimum wage had kept up with the rate of inflation, the current rate would be around 10.50/hour.

The American dream at one time meant that you had ONE 9 to 5 job that allowed you to buy a house, support a family of 4 and have a car.

Now? In order to afford the American dream, if you earn minimum wage, you'd have to work 16 plus hours per day.

Actually, minimum wage law was put into effect more to combat child labor low wages, not to provide a living wage to a single household wage earner. It wasn't so that a single income earner could support a family of four on 25 cents an hour, but more that his children could earn 25 cents an hour to help support the family.

Either the employer pays or the taxpayer pays

I tend to lean towards the employer

Partly correct.

If the Employer pays, the consumer pays (and since the consumers are the taxpayers they get it anyway).

Let's say that the minimum wage is raised to $10/Hour (employer pays). Is Lizzie Borden and her moron sidekick egor (Bernie Sanders) along with sucking Schumer going to eliminate food stamps ?

Didn't think so.

Because the system is set up to reward ownership, not work.

Have you given much thought to what "ownership" really means?

Rich vs poor.

The rich are winning because they control the Congress.

Republicans hate working people, thus their desire to kill the unions and the minimum wage.

No, that's not what I'm getting at. Ownership is how we assign control of property and resources. It's how we answer the question "what should we do with the wealth we have?". Capitalists earn money for the very real work of making those very important decisions.

They don't make money from stashing money in a mattress. They make money from doing something useful with it - at a bare minimum making it available to others who will put it to good use. If they make good use of their wealth, if they invest it in products and projects that people want and need, we give them control of even more wealth. If squander it on crap no one wants or needs, they lose their wealth and someone else gets a chance.

Just because you have no idea....does not make it babbling. Try unraveling that.

Have you always struggled to make a coherent point?

Raising the minimum wage would reduce the cost of social welfare programs, foster economic growth, and strengthen families - all virtues extolled by conservatives.

Please use some numbers to show us how this happens.

That or admit you are doing nothing more than parroting Chris Matthews.

Can you guys plesae choose which side of the fence you want to be on?

You call Democrats slavemasters because their social programs make poor people dependent on Government. Raising minimum wages will help to break that dependency

No it does not
All it does is change the numeric value of the lowest rung... those who do more will still earn more... the 2 year veteran of the cash register will not want to make the same as the newbie.. the supervisor, who was only making $9.50 will not be content to make the same as those he or she supervises.. the apprentice plumber will not want to only make $1.00 per hour more than a burger flipper.. etc etc etc...

All it succeeds in doing is putting more people out of work when the cost of labor for the lowest unskilled jobs goes higher than the cost of automation

Idiot

We have been raising the minimum wage for 50 years. Each time it has been raised, conservatives have whined that it is bad for business, people will lose jobs, the economy will suffer

Somehow, the market adjusts, life goes on, the sun still rises and low wage people have a little more money in their pocket

It is bad for business and bad for the employment rate of the least skilled citizens

And yet you did not address the very valid point I made... typical

Yea...we should have kept the $1 an hour wage

It would have save business trillions

and again.. you ignore the fact that all that happens is that you change the numeric value of the floor

All this babble about a "living wage" for a little over 3% of the entire work force.
Everyone in the business world has known for a very long time this nonsense from the Obama administration and Democratic politicians is all about union contracts as they are most always negotiated on multiples of the minimum wage.
LOL, unions donate how much to Democrats?
This has nothing to do with giving anyone a "living wage".
Pure folly.

It has decreased thanks to our conservative friends

We have increased that floor multiple times over the last 50 years and we still survived

I still haven't seen facts or figures for proof from Chris or rightwinger.
