Pete Rose's reinstatement bid denied by MLB commissioner Rob Manfred

A change in Major League Baseball commissioners did not alter the stance toward Pete Rose’s eligibility for the Hall of Fame.
Rob Manfred, who succeeded longtime commissioner Bud Selig in January, has denied Rose's application for reinstatement, informing baseball's all-time hits king on Monday that he will remain on the outside looking in nearly three decades after his ban for gambling on the sport, and issuing a three-page statement that says Rose has fallen far short of rehabilitating his life in a fashion that suggests he could associate with a major league team.

Excellent.

Gotta walk the walk, Pete, not act like a far right reactionary, all walk and no talk.

So are you saying Pete is currently using steroids and that's how he has failed to rehabilitate himself???

Think those steroid users are shaving points to win big money on the games they are in?

Pete Rose beat out Hall of Famer Ty Cobb for the all time hit record.

Does anyone know who and what Ty Cobb was all about? Ty Cobb was one of the most hated people ever to play baseball because he was such an SOB. He was so hated, that when another player beat him for a hitting title one year, the teamates of Ty Cobb wrote the chap a letter to thank him.

But that is not why I'm writing this. Ty Cob was actually banned from baseball like Pete Rose is today. In fact, he was the first player banned from the game because he nearly beat to death a fan who was in a wheel chair, no less, for calling him a half negro. For you see, Ty Cobb was a dispicable racist who, by all rights, should have killed the man he attacked.

Thankfully, for Ty Cobb, at that time most were ardent racists as well, and as such, defended Ty Cobbs honor by insisting he be reinstated. The pressure and racism was enough to reinstate him and now is a shining example in the Hall of Fame of what we should be proud of in MLB.

MLB can take the HOF and shove it up their arse. Pete Rose did nothing remotely similar to deserve such a ban.

Votto, I found the below. But I agree that Pike was no Try Cobb. It would be like banning Miguel Cabrera or Clayton Kershaw today.

Lipman 'Lip' Pike, notable for being baseball's first professional player (when the Philadelphia Athletics agreed to pay him $20 a week in 1866), also became baseball's first banned player:

Pike got a brief call-up in 1881 to play for the Worcester Ruby Legs, but the 36-year-old Pike could no longer play effectively, hitting .111 and not managing a single extra base hit in 18 at-bats over 5 games. His play was so poor as to arouse suspicions, and Pike found himself banned from the National League that September. He was added to the National League blacklist in 1881. He turned to haberdashery, the vocation of his father, and spent another 6 years playing only amateur baseball. He was reinstated in 1883.[1]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_banned_from_Major_League_Baseball

Nah, they're just standing closer to the razor to shave those points.

There is no evidence that Pete Rose ever cheated because of his gambling

Steroid users WERE cheating

He broke a rule, he bet on baseball. It is still a rule. He knew the rules and choose to break the rule.

He lied for years about the issue.

It's more than just breaking a rule.

If he bet on games he was playing to win, that still is a problem

Let's assume for a second that Pete bet to win a game he was trying to win. Most would assume that is not a problem because that is his job. However, what if to win a game he left in his best pitchers longer than he should have and compromised their arm or not kept some in reserve for the next day, ensuring a loss the next day or two, just to win the one game? That becomes a problem

Don't get me wrong, Pete was a lying POS, but to not point out the hypocrisy of MLB is equally abhorrant to me.

To put it bluntly, I despise beauty pagents and politics. The cream of the crop never rise to the top. Instead, filth like Ty Cobb steal all the glory, so to hell with them all.

The Hall of Fame should be about accomplishments on the field ONLY. Only focusing on stats is the only way to avoid the politics and make it somewhat tolerable. If they want to put an astrick by their name for the crap they pulled in attaining those stats, then so be it. For example, A-Rod (cheated with steroids), Ty Cobb (racist prick who almost murdered a fan in a wheel chair) Pete Rose (lying POS who bet on baseball games), Daryl Strawberry (drug abusing addict), etc.

In fact, I wish they would put a picture of the poor chap Ty Cobb beat to a pulp next to his picture in the HOF. Just put the truth out there about them and let the fans decide.

Hiding the truth by either not putting them in the HOF or not putting the good, the bad, and the ugly, along side their name is equally as bad.

yeah the HOF is a joke to ban Rose but let Cobb in especially with those facts you posted. If Rose is banned then Cobb should be as well without question.anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

that post of yours puts to rest that Cobb was a criminal. There is this other site I post at that puts it to rest as well that he was a criminal, that he intentionally tried to hurt people sliding in with his spikes at the second baseman.

It shows him diving into him with his leg stretched out spikes up in the air the same way a martial arts expert would karate kick someone in the stomach. It shows his leg extended hitting the second basemans stomach injuring him.

The HOF is a sham and a disgrace allowing someone who purposely committed assault on players as well as that fan to be in the hall of fame.fuck MLB HOF.

here is what i have to say to the baseball HOF--:up_yours: Up yours and fuck you HOF.:fu:

If Baseball wants to hold the line on gambling and its effect on the integrity of the game, fine
But you have to hold steroid users to the same standard. Barry Bonds, Roger Clemmons, Sammy Sosa, ARod and McGuire never get in

In addition, Commissioner Selig who turned a blind eye so owners could make money off of steroid users never makes the HOF

We will all be dead and buried before those five get in. And they just may never get it. Good riddance. Add Rafael Palmeiro to that list, and maybe Manny.

He's an inveterate gambling junkie and never stopped gambling for years afterwards.......I know.......used to see him and his posse in the Vegas sportsbooks when I played da' ponies.

Enjoy your little "holier than thou" Hall of Fame.

As if hiding history actually accomplishes anything.

Votton, no one is hiding history. It's the history of the gamblers and cheaters that got them into trouble.

Go to Baseball Reference and you can have all the history you want.

The entire era should be wiped out. 1988-2003, all records expunged, all players ineligible for Cooperstown. They were all complicit, they are all guilty.
