What a joke! Obama WANTED during tax cuts to expire for $250K and above, but he saw as a NECESSITY to have unemployment extended for 13 months. The only want to get the necessity was to compromise on the want.

The Republicans caved also. The wanted no extention of unemployment but saw the tax cuts as a necessity. They gave up the want for the necessity also.

HOWEVER, I think Obama caved too much. What he should have done is stated, "In the spirit of compromising and reaching across the isle for the betterment of all Americans, we are willing to adjust that $250K mark to $1 million (or even $750K) for 4 years not two!"

The truth is 50% of those who claim to be for the things that Obama wanted to get done, didn't get off their dead asses and get to the polls. Now people who didn't do their part are condemning the guy for working out a deal that yes makes most of American sick, as 68% of America is against giving Million and Billion airs tax cuts while the rest of the country is getting screwed. The problem is 50% of those people either didn't vote or in many cases voted against their own best interest.

Being against everything that goes to help the average American as the Republicans have show they are yet for things who only help the trickle down theory of the ultra rich will have to defend these positions, unlike they had to do in the last election.

They no longer can say they were for middle class tax cuts as they voted against them and held the middle class hostage to the greed of the conservative right in the top 10%.
Make no mistake that republicans which many belong to the middle class are willing to help the rich so they can get control of the congress to move the agenda of what they want, religious far right thinking. Whats really dumb is those in the middle did not or were not able to understand that by not voting or voting for the right is only going to move our country further to the far right.

Obama did what he had to do for America and the republicans did what they had to do for their BASE as BUSH put it, help those who don't need help.

I am tired of people thinking that to become rich in this country means you should be punished. Okay, how about punishing obama and the rest of the rich politicians than? When they follow the same rules we have to, I will support them.

From what I have been reading and hearing, the facts are these:

The majority of likely voters want the Bush tax cuts extended for all.

The majority of likely voters were opposed to extending unemployment benefits but felt much less strongly about that than they did about the tax policy and were more in favor of it if the deficit was not substantially increased.

The majority of likely voters are fairly ambivalent re DADT so this decision is being left mostly to the military to sort out.

The majority of likely voters agree that the Patriot Act as it now exists is essential for national security as do the majority of the elected representatives in Congress. If that was not so it would already be repealed and/or defunded.

The majority of likely voters are opposed to policies that undermind American business and/or jobs in any way but are also opposed to adding hundreds of billions to the deficit. By a high percentage they remain opposed to a Congress and Administration that sees printing more money as a not-so-temporary fix to economic shortfalls.

All that boils down to . . . .Everybody got something in the compromises but nobody got everything they wanted.

And now we hear the Left who have been whining for two years that the GOP are nothing but obstructionists complaining that the GOP and Democrats have been able to find enough common ground to compromise and get something done.

I guess some people aren't going to be happy no matter what.

The entire point of The Rabbi's (and to my knowledge he is neither a rabbi nor Jewish) post was that before the election, anyone who spoke out against the candidate was immediately called a racist and accused of only speaking out against the candidate because they were racist. ABS made comments against the current situation and the actions of the President and The Rabbi sarcastically jabbed him with an elbow about the comment.
