Newt hits Romney hard on Bain Capital

I posted that figure twice, TODAY, within minutes of each other.

Find your whale elsewhere Ahab.

Uh ok...I'll revise it:

Thats not being a sceptic at all..Thats believing what you want to believe because you want to believe it. You've posted that figure TWICE and always presented as fact. So cut it out

Seems you couldnt get pass that point. Posting word of mouth figures as fact is not being skeptic. Happy?

If you have a problem with something I've said why don't you present a few differing facts rather than just attack me? If you believe me to be wrong prove it. I'm not wed to my stats. In fact unlike many I change my thoughts as new information is presented to me.

It's really simple, PROVE ME WRONG. Although I suspect the small amount of research I have actually done far exceeds yours.

I'm sorry I just asked where you got the figures YOU posted. Didnt know that asking for the source or questioning the source was an ATTACK on you :doubt:

All I said is that you cannot prove whether its right or wrong because Bain hasnt released information (or no one has found it). You havent done research you admitted you heard the number from Mitts team so Again, sorry you see that as an ATTACK. Will you accept this iron man sticker and my apology? :eusa_hand:

About time someone did...

Should have happened three months ago.

This whole debate about what contitutes real "job creation" should have happened years ago. So ironic it's a bunch of Republicans bringing it up., but that's OK. They're helping advance an argument that liberal commies like me have been making for quite some time now.

Except of course that Bain Capital is a private investment firm that invests in businesses and creates jobs. They are clearly bad guys.

Can you imagine. A PRIVATE firm being able to invest or not invest. Capitalism? What is this world coming to?
Sure they can. But the American people do not like every type of capitalism. Buying distressed companies, firing all the American workers, and sending those jobs to China while collecting big bonuses for doing so is not the capitalism that Americans support.

I'm loooking it up right now, but I read somewhere earlier that a good many of these "created" jobs were lower-paying ones which replaced the ones that got lost.

Edit: Never mind. there may be truth to it, but no hard data can be found.

Your original response to me was that I was posting phony numbers. Basically calling me a liar or an idiot. It was a subtle attempt to belittle me. You failed because I gave you the source and here we are hours later and you have yet to debunk them. I will take that fact as your apology.

Seems like the South Carolina Primary may be the setting/arena where the gloves come completely off.

Except of course that Bain Capital is a private investment firm that invests in businesses and creates jobs. They are clearly bad guys.

Considering that they also destroy jobs, yeah, they kind of are.

They take on firms that are already collapsing. Their success rate was about 70% when the new business failure rate is about 50%

Youre letting your hatred for Romney cloud your judgment.

I would argue that those firms were just fine until ROmney got involved.

So would the people working for them.

"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." - Abraham Lincoln.

You can argue it all you want - but you would be wrong. The only reason that private equity companies get involved is when a business is failing. Successful companies have no need for private equity. That is straightforward, simple, logic. If it is above your intellectual paygrade, that is your problem. Quoting famous people does not make you smart.

Well, you've been trying it, and it doesn't work, so yeah, in your case it is true.

Come on, if you guys really want to run Polo Ponies against working families in November, you are really setting yourselves up for a big fall.

This isn't a field I am strong on but I have a question or two or three.. Do you equate "failing" with "vulnerable"? I am curious if let's say the "steel mill" that has been in the news requested Bains involvement or did Bain pursue a hostile takeover? How exactly did Bain get involved?...and .... Do CEOs just get a company like Bain on the phone and ask them to try to save them? OR...does Bain sniff around until they find a company that is struggling and buy enough stock to leverage a takeover?

Failing - making loss after loss instead of profit after profit. Should you wish to discuss Romney's business acumen - or the lack of it - then you really need to study up on private equity firms and what they do.

Private equity firms do NOT go into profitable companies. They cannot make money from them. They go into failing companies.... more often than not, those companies are failing because of incompetent management (though that is a general rule and not true of every case).... when a company is failing because of incompetent management, a decent private equity company can turn it around and make it profitable. Bains were very successful at doing that. Where it cannot do that, they sell off what they can (private equity companies are successful because they tend to have very good contacts and business links so they know how to get the best prices - which the management of the failing company cannot do).

Often, failing companies will approach a private equity firm, sometimes the private equity firm will come to them. It is not necessarily a 'hostile' takeover - although that certainly does happen.

Having said all that, what private equity firms do, wherever possible - is turn the company around. That saves jobs. It is fine to criticize private equity firms when there is evidence of wrongdoing.... but I have found no evidence to suggest that Bains has done anything wrong. I'm sure they are not saints - but to tar them as sinners is disingenuous.

Venture Capital- Destroying your job so rich douchebags can buy more polo ponies...

Yup. That's a total winner in 2012. Romney needs to totally go with that.

Pull your pants up, your ignorance is showing.... again.

Just being blunt.

I think most of America with their underwater mortgages, busted 401K and reduced salaries have had enough of the "geniuses" who manipulate the system.

If you really think nominating a clueless rich guy is going to do the trick, I think you don't hang around enough with real Americans. Oh, yeah, and he belongs to a batshit crazy religion. That helps, too.

If you represent "real Americans" then I thank (insert optional Deity here) that I don't. I 'hang out' with intelligent, rational, thinking people. Many of them are most certainly American. Many of them are not. But I learn from those intelligent people - some of them are very 'socialist' in their views. Others are remarkably 'conservative'. And I learn equally from all.

I think most of America is underwater because they, as individuals, made some bad choices - that includes who they elected, and how they spent their own personal money. Do I feel sorry for them? Oh hell, yea.

But to call Romney 'clueless' is nothing short of bullshit. Utter, total bullshit. You are basing your opinions on hot air instead of logic. I don't do that. I understand what private equity firms do.... because I understand economics - which clearly you do not. Even basic economics seems far above your intellectual paygrade.

There are a lot of things that one could, rationally, disagree with Romney about... but this private equity thing... that is not one of them.

No, I'm calling Romney clueless because the man has never had to do real man's work a day in his life. He's a guy who was born on third base and thought he hit a triple.

I have no problem with an investor getting rich as long as everyone else is happy with the results. Microsoft, for instance. Never begrudged Bill Gates his billions, because MS pays their employees good wages, they provide a product that has benefitted us all. And it all started with an idea in his garage that IBM foolishly took a pass on because they had no vision.

That's not what Romney is. Romney is a guy who looks for the weak and hits them at their worst moment, reaping rewards. And he doesn't need to. Maybe KB Toys or AmPad would have went under on their own volition, maybe they wouldn't have. But morally, it's up there with stealing granny's jewelry because she's gonna die, anyway.

And if you really think that nominating this guy is a good idea, then the REpublicans deserve to lose.

Oh, right. So it's envy. Ok. I understand the concept of envy. I had not factored in the 'real mans' work issue at all.

Moron.

Mittens:

"As to what to do for the housing industry specifically, there are things that you can do to encourage housing," Romney said on Oct. 17. "One is, don't try to stop the foreclosure process. Let it run its course and hit the bottom. Allow investors to buy homes, put renters in them, fix the homes up and let it turn around and come back up."
