Net Neutrality Revisited

The U.S. government, i.e. us, built the basis of the internet. Why shouldn't we have a say in how it's run? It's a great equalizer, but the opponents of net neutrality seem to want to create a system of gated communities and slums.

YAWN'

another fascist-wannabe lemming creates a false argument for total government control of thoughts

there is no lemming like one that WANTS to be lied to; wants to believe the lies

you dont want a "say in how it's run"; you want to say how it's run.

The great equalizer alright--makes everyone equally stupid and dependent.

As I live and breath!

It's konny! Long time no see....hope you've been well.

Enough chit-chat.....now to skewer your absurd post.

Based on same, am I correct that you'd agree with the regulations from the OP:

"7. If you like the concept of Net Neutrality, think about it like this:
if a consumer is looking to buy a refrigerator, how about a regulation that all appliance stores have to have the same price for refrigerators? Even better...the same as the lowest price any are charging."

After all....'we' built the street on which that business grew.....

You agree....don't you?
BTW....how are you celebrating MayDay, comrade konny?

That, in fact, is the doctrine of the eco-fascists who use regulations to take de facto control of private property.

An example?

1. The Spotted Owl campaign, as is so very many other environmental campaigns, a deceit. It is a way of advancing the real agenda, confiscating property, making land off-limit, and eliminating any human presence. No matter the cost. No matter the result.

a. Ten years of research and more than 1,000 published studies detail the threats to its survival, but there's still no sure way to stop its decline. Saving the Spotted Owl : NPR

2. You see, what the sage grouse is about is, they want to stop drilling in beautiful Wyoming. That’s the hidden agenda….Take the spotted owl case….One of the people instrumental in shutting down th forests told me that ‘if the spotted owl hadn’t existed, we would have had to invent it.’ The goal was to stop logging….

It is totally questionable whether owls were endangered by logging. Was it good for the overall health of the forest? Probably not. Was it good for the spotted owl? It probably didn’t make a difference. Did it hurt the overall economies of the West? Yes.”

"A Washington, D.C., appeals court is set to hear arguments later this year on new net neutrality rules, which critics say could lead to government regulators censoring websites such as the Drudge Report and Fox News.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit will hear oral arguments against the Federal Communications Commission's rules on Dec. 4. A panoply of amicus briefs filed with the court last week offer a preview of the arguments.

In its February vote on net neutrality, the Federal Communications Commission stated that broadband providers do not have a right to free speech."
Drudge Fox News could be censored under new federal rules experts warn Washington Examiner

I warned you.....Liberal fascists in charge.

A "Liberal fascist"? Is that anything like a Hillary Clinton or perhaps a Bernie Sanders? Certainly not Donald Trump as he is no liberal! Then again, one really has no way of knowing, does one? I understand my question has little to do with the original OP question, but since you threw it out, thought I would ask. Begging Moderator understanding. Much Grass.

Titan Twinkie

The Net is all about traffic, and traffic has been a 'hot word' since the days of mass immigration to the USA. Everyone has been thinking a great deal about 'access' in the New World and this new age.

Hackers are the new terrorists, and Internet service protocols gauge our view of highway sophistication.

Net Neturality sounds like socialism, but in fact, it should, in theory make us less wary of cable/Internet service greed.

The computer/Internet consultation/home-assistance company Geek Squad generally makes me feel much better about 'modern hellgates.'

Astounding isn't it. The number of people who cannot read is unfathomable! How do you feel about that issue?

"Ted Cruz Says He ‘Cannot Overstate’ the ‘Threats’ to Internet Freedom,....
“I think threats to Internet freedom continue growing,” Cruz said. “This administration views the Internet as a threat.”

The Texas firebrand contended that if the Democrats had the authority, the First Amendment could be in great peril.

“I think the threats to free speech, under big government statists, have never been greater,” he said. “You know, in Washington, D.C., when you drive down Pennsylvania Avenue you come to the Newseum. And carved into granite, some forty feet tall, are the words to the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights to the Constitution. If the Democrats had their way, they’ll have to sandblast those words out of there. I think we cannot overstate these threats.”

    1. If the internet existed in 1933, the NYTimes and Walter Duranty would not have been able to bury the story of he millions of Ukrainian farmers who were starved to death by Joseph Stalin and the Communists.

‘We’ve Got Three Days to Fix This’
the impending handover of Internet control to a foreign body, a topic that should be of major concern to American voters, although Marlow sarcastically observed there was no time for it during the debate because moderator Lester Holt thought it was more important to discuss Donald Trump’s thoughts on Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

“A lot of people in this audience have absolutely no clue why we would do this and can’t even interpret what Obama and the globalists are thinking,” Marlow said.

“Well, quite frankly, I’m among them. I can’t figure out what the argument is for doing this,” Gaffney replied. He went on to explain the situation:

What they’re preparing to do is to cede, or surrender, the last vestige of American control, or even influence, over what is done with critical functions of the Internet. It gets pretty arcane, but the point is, if you think that the freedom of the Internet – whether it’s the ability of people to communicate freely information on it, or whether you think of it as an engine for free enterprise, let alone if you understand the contribution that it makes these days to national security – including, by the way, the operations of our critical infrastructure – you will understand that the United States retaining a measure of quality control as to what’s going on with how the Internet is populated with names and numbers, domains, websites and the like, is a very important thing.

And for absolutely no good reason, other than people – or countries, I should say, like Russia, and China, and Saudi Arabia, and Iran, and North Korea – don’t want us to have any say in this..."

What has this President actually ever done that is a benefit to America and Americans????

NADA!

"In another blow to American global leadership the Obama administration is abdicating control of the Internet. Countries that loathe freedom are gaining more influence over what you’ll be able to find on the web.

America started the Internet and from its inception served as its guardian, guaranteeing that virtually any person or group, no matter how controversial, could add a website to the worldwide network. But on October 1, the Obama administration surrendered American oversight to a multinational organization, ICANN, which stands for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers."

Liberals....what have you done?

"Hillary Clinton is falling in line with President Obama, just as she did with the Iran deal. The press is silent, ...."
Ibid.

Why was it so important to the Right to maintain the freedom of the internet?

Here's why:
"While there is no "iron curtain" around our campuses, there is a curtain, and its effects are dangerously close to the effects produced by the "iron curtain" around the Soviet bloc. What is lacking is anything like the Voice of America broadcasts to pierce the academic curtain."
Thomas Sowell - The Academic Curtain

And this is why it was so important to Obamunists to wrest control.
