The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found.

Socially conservative ideologies tend to offer structure and order," Hodson said, explaining why these beliefs might draw those with low intelligence. "Unfortunately, many of these features can also contribute to prejudice."

In another study, this one in the United States, Hodson and Busseri compared 254 people with the same amount of education but different levels of ability in abstract reasoning. They found that what applies to racism may also apply to homophobia. People who were poorer at abstract reasoning were more likely to exhibit prejudice against gays.

Social science can be so amusing. There is a bit of a contretemps over several recent articles that used datasets supposedly measuring the personality traits of liberals and conservatives which has resulted in several abashed corrections. The researchers used the data in an effort to show that personality traits are not the cause of political attitudes, but instead both are correlated with some other factor, most likely genetic. Interesting enough. This finding is not what is being corrected. ..... The original article, "Correlation not Causation: The Relationship between Personality Traits and Political Ideologies," in the American Journal of Political Science...

Sorry, but some guy who likes to stick his erect penis in another guy's feces-encrusted anus does cause me to experience prejudicial thoughts.

Maybe it's just me.

“There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.”

No study was needed to establish this fact beyond dispute.

The uneducated also are in the conservative camp. Education reduces people's fears of just about everything so they are more tolerant of others. Conservatives who never get above a high school education are much more racist and xenophobic. (yes conservatives you'll have to look up xenophobic).

Low IQ & Conservative Beliefs Linked to Prejudice | Racism, Bias & Politics | Right-Wing and Left-Wing Ideology

Dear guno
I'll never forget the words of a young man who addressed Congress after his sister was shot at Columbine.

He cited the test scores and grades of the shooters,
who were very intelligent and academically competitive.

What he said was missing was character.
==============
PS As for these tests written to measure prejudice against gays,
how many of these researchers or people being tested for that matter
KNOW about spiritual healing and changing homosexual behavior?
That is a HUGE bias on the whole study, both the people conducting
it and the people being studied.

So guno since you are intelligent. Why not conduct the same study
after both the researchers and the participants see PROOF that
spiritual healing has successfully changed people from either
gay to straight or straight to gay after they were healed of guilt or fear.

Then tell me what biases you find, and the difference in perception
between the people in Group A "after" and Group B "before"
they understood that sexual orientation can be changed by spiritual healing.

What my guess would be: I think the researchers would find that
* forgiveness correlates with overcoming fear, rejection and prejudice
* unforgiveness correlates with holding on to rejection and prejudice based on fear
regardless of the intelligence of the person studied: FORGIVENESS is the key factor

I have to disagree. FOr the first few decades of my adult life, from about 1980 to 2008, I was pretty right wing and conservative. I'm college educated, don't consider myself racist (in fact, I've dated outside my race at the time) and really thought they had some good ideas as to fixing the country.

The disaster that was George W. Bush mae me rethink that.

I don't think he's unintelligent. I just think he's an angry guy. Like a lot of these guys, the world doesn't work the way they want it to and they are angry about it.

Why is it that homophobes seem to like to describe gay (male) sex in almost pornographic detail?

So I have to ask, when a straight guy has anal sex with a straight woman, does that repel you as much?

No wonder they support loserterianism that hates common sense investment in their own effin country. Amazing how dumb they're.
arent you racist against blacks Matthew :eusa_whistle: BE HONEST.

Dear Dot Com: Given Matthew 's obvious disdain spouting off
against "losertarians" as a GROUP LABEL
it is clear he already judges people "collectively" using those negative generalizations.

So that is a form of bigotry, to prejudge people by association with a social grouping.

Now, Dot Com if you want to pick this apart,
we'd have to find out if Matthew 's issues are
stemming from "Mommy issues" with communication and/or family relations
or "Daddy issues" with authority figures and/or romantic relations.

He seems to be open to communication, although using it to judge reject and bash.
My guess is he has some Daddy issues, and has to bully other people to
defend his turf, and overcompensate for a sense of control and security.

My guess is if you talk about men/women issues of equality,
then you could pick this guy's brains and see where the projection is coming from.
What do you think?

I'm going to say nice things about Conservatives in this thread.

I think that some of the things they believe in aren't all that wrong.

The idea that someone shouldn't be dependent on the government his whole life isn't a wrong idea. There's truly virtue in work.

If the Republicans are looking out for the rich, the Democrats are looking out for the people who want to live on the dole. No one is really looking out for those of us who go out day in and day out to thankless jobs.

Both parties used to get working folks were the backbone of this country, and somewhere along the line, both of them forgot it.

Going up the down staircase is problematic.

Bad aim does not concern me.

I do not equate male-male as male-female in any case.

Dear JoeB131 I think his point was that gay male sex DOES disgust him
when it is compared in detail to heterosexual sex that doesn't.

And yes, I have received rather explicit msgs from a male friend trying to describe
heterosexual sex trying to make me jealous or turn me on. So some guys do
think and describe this in great detail; where the heterosexual sex turns them
on, but the thought of the same in homosexual terms is disgusting to them.

That is the whole point.

This isn't rocket science.

If you live in a jungle and you see a dark cave you are fearful of going in it. Rightfully so.

If you then gingerly ease your way in with a torch and explore the cave and find nothing in there to harm you your fear of this cave diminishes greatly. If you then visit this same cave over and over for years and you find nothing in there to harm you your fear of the cave is gone. You know the place, you know the dangers. The dangers you imagined were proven wrong. You have become 'educated' on the reality of the cave.

That's it. Knowledge allays fear that is founded on lack of that knowledge. We don't fear 'volcano gods' though we still respect and understand the REAL dangers of volcanos. The same with Earthquakes. The more we learn the less abstract and misguided fear we have and the more realistic view of the real dangers. Fear is replaced with respect and knoweldge.

Conservatives brains are hardwired to be more fearful than others, which long ago was a huge asset. Before humans knew about the processes of life and how to control them everything seemed to be out to kill us so those who avoided these things survived more often. But with the knowledge we've gained the last thousand years our unfounded fear of almost everything has been replaced with understanding of the natural forces and respect for those natural forces.

The fear of 'the other' is the same. Go eat dinner with a race of people you know nothing about and you'll find you may not like everything they serve but they eat dinner like you, they laugh, the love their children, and they want to get ahead in life and be left alone. The fear is replaced with understanding that 'different' isn't an evil thing.
