Long prison sentences are the only way to stop gun crime, ask this 9x felon...

Felons are not allowed to carry a firearm....next.

wait a minute, aren't you kind of contradicting yourself?

If gun ownership is truly a right granted by God and a bunch of Slave-owners 230 years ago, why can't felons have guns. It should be as basic to them as Freedom of Religion, speech, right to trial, and all the other things that felons still have a "right" to have.

On the other hand, if you think there should be reasonable restrictions on who should be able to own a gun, then welcome to the dark side, baby.

How is that a contradiction to what I've said?
It's not,try again.

We have reasonable restrictions....you cannot commit a crime with a gun, and if you are found to be a felon through the judicial process then you loose your right to a gun....

Those are all the restrictions we need.

If the prison experience was a deterrent to repeat offenses, what accounts for the existing recidivism rate which is over fifty percent?

I disagree with long sentences being the answer. While some people may change after serving a long enough sentence, that doesn't mean that everyone who serves a long sentence will change.

God bless you always!!!

It's not about change it's about keeping violent criminals off the street.
Lock em up till they need a walker to get around, will see how full of piss and vinegar they are then.
Have you any idea of the projected cost of such a policy? We already have a prison census which exceeds those of the all most socially repressive nations -- combined!

this is a little story about a felon...convicted 9 times on felony charges, many of them illegal weapons charges who is finally going to jail for at least 7 years.....and yet, that is still not enough time....in Japan he would get 30 years...and that is how they keep gun murder at such a low rate....

Jersey City gang member gets extended 15-year prison term for gun charge - Gunmart Blog

Jersey City man convicted of a weapons offense was sentenced to 15 years in prison today due to his extensive criminal record, which includes nine criminal convictions.

--------

Hopson would have faced five to 10 years in prison but he was eligible for an extended term of 10 to 20 years due to his prior convictions, which include multiple gun and drug crimes. Galis-Menendez also noted that Hopson has an extensive juvenile record.

Owning a gun harms no one. Owning a gun should not be a crime.

Thats easy. Do what they used to do,put the prisoners to work so prisons become self sustaining.
They can grow and raise their own food and make products that benefit the states they are incarcerated in.
Or they can sit in their cells and starve to death.

In Japan it's illegal to have a gun to start with.

Here it's a "right", according to you nuts.

Hey, guy, we lock up 2 million people. We have another 7 million on probation or parole.

Meanwhile, Japan only locks up 69,000 people. They ban guns and women can walk safely at night

The latest Japanese Crime problem is old people committing crimes because they can't make ends meet on their pension.

Why Japan's Elderly Are Committing Crimes to 'Break Into Prison'

The reason for this choice is that life in Japan is simply unaffordable for retirees, says Hansen. According to Custom Products’ report, the state pension is 780,000 yen ($6,885) per year, but the cost of living is actually about 1,003,000 yen per year ($8,854), making it nearly impossible to get by on the pension alone.

It also helps that Japan’s prisons are quite comfortable, says Hansen. “Japan’s prisons aren’t like U.S. prisons. They’re nicer by far and they’re very safe, so you’re not going to have that fear of crime,” he says.
The grass always greener on the other side with the anti-gun nutters... Lol
So called "gun" violence is a non-issue in this country. Concern yourself with something important. bed wetter

It's not.......what is so hard to understand...you quarantine them from their victims.....you lock them up so they can't commit crimes.......
