If I'm being honest, I'm almost there. Except I don't think we have a tyrant in charge, in fact, I'm THRILLED with our president.

There are many people, some whom I respect immensely, that are 180 degrees from where I am politically, that feel the same way.

14 years ago I won custody of a 13 month old baby girl & I was a small business owner starting out. Message boards became my social life & outlet - things are different now, I still have the girl and I still like message boards, but I'm in a better place.

But I have NEVER been this angry and ready for a fight.

Many of my friends on the left feel the same way.

So, how do we fix this?

OR are we at the point of no return?

Get rid of all the liberals. Give them free tickets to any socialist country of their choice.

If we could just name bills with names like "A cesspool in every yard" and the "stop asking us to brush our teeth bill", you could win them over every time. Look how Republicans lie to them and they swallow it hook, line and sinker again and again. Maybe that's what we do when it comes to the GOP base. Just lie. It works for the Republican leadership.

Other energy sources have been replacing coal. Trump and GOP want to take away healthcare for sick coal miners. We know that. It's no secret.

We need to abandon the failed supply side policies and return to higher rates at the top

As a compromise, we also need to cut spending on the military and social programs

Only way to balance a budget

I'm new here, maybe I don't understand something about this CDZ, I thought it was about no personal flaming. But I'm trying to be honest. How do you heal the divide? You don't, you can't, so long as the democrats still want to act as they have been doing since the days of GW Bush, like the GOP were some sort of goosestepping gestapo wanting to kill babies and old people and ruin the planet! I just read a guy somewhere on a thread that pretty much said exactly that!

You don't heal the divide until you get divisive politicians out of Washington, you don't heal the divide until you get the flaming radical people out of universities putting all of this crap into people's heads. Look at the kid's in college these days and how the administration kowtow's to their demands rather than THROW THE BASTARDS OUT! Just a year earlier, they were in High School! It is the radical professors in places like UC Berkeley, the radicals like George Soros, Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, Maxine Waters, etc., who will say ANYTHING, do anything, to win an election! Even Obama, his every action was to drive people apart, divide them into tribes of victimhood where each was pitted against the other. The GOP is just as bad? NO THEY ARE NOT! They ain't perfect, but if you think the GOP does the same things or is worse, that is part of the brainwashing.

So I said with tongue in cheek: give them all tickets to go somewhere else or get the people out of government and education (and media), who keep feeding the division that drives many on the Left into radical thinking. I just wonder if this country really gets hit, bad, what this country will do? Has political correctness ruined us as it has the EU? I really feel that many are way past coming together in unity for one cause and a lot of people will blame ourselves for the attack or worse. If we can get the radicals out of our government, schools and media, then MAYBE, after a generation, we can heal and grow back together into realizing that we are all Americans living under one flag for one country and for one cause.

I would wager you’re in the majority here in that aspect. You push buttons and maybe straddle “the line” from time to time but you don’t wish ill will to anyone. As GWB said to Gore one time, “I can’t wish you success, but I wish you well.”

An informed electorate would be a good start. Having a President that doesn't declare he is using "alternative facts" or anything derogatory is "fake news" would be a good start too; the informed electorate would take care of the former come to think about it.

The only major change is the tenor of the discussion. Try to have a conversation about HRC with someone on the right wing and see how long it takes before the word "bitch" is brought up. Have your stopwatch handy.

I am asking how to come together & find common ground, telling me what you don't like about "my side" is a bad place to START - having said that, I do understand that you cannot work on a problem without addressing the problem

but getting started needs to be about what we can agree on; then we build trust with thoughtful communication, THEN we address our "laundry list" of complaints and see if there is a way to constructively address them...

I point it out because the nation has always had a break between the camps. The tenor is much more toxic than it was in the past.

And I'm assuring you that no such uncrossable gap exist; anymore than it did during the 1960's or especially 1860 for that matter.

It's funny you would say this because I have been thinking that we are more divided than we have been at any point since the War Between the States
the 1960's had some heated moments & divisiveness, but were really nowhere near as bad as what we see today (or in the 1860's)
I really do fear for my country right now - I am not sure we would survive a "shooting war" & every day that passes seems to make that type of conflict more & more plausible...
Lastly, it's worth noting that MANY of the responses ITT center around why the other side is "bad" & laying the blame with everyone who does not agree with them

Nothing short of a full scale military attack will bring is together. Even with the terrorism that surrounds us; nearly every one thinks that they'll hear about it in the news. Not; that their death will be on the news.

I think all things go in cycles and this is a particularly nasty one. There is a lot of misinformation flying around that is fueling the fires of division. It is up to citizens to not take anything at face value. That does take work and therein lies the problem. America has become a sound byte, drive through, spare me the details nation. That's not good when it comes to politics especially when it has gotten this partisan.

My wife had a party with her faculty and grad students at our house last month. I asked her "Do you want me there, seriously?" As you might imagine they are all anti-Trump, Hillary supporters. But it worked out, only because not one word of politics was uttered. To me that is sad because I love to discuss concepts and debate but you just can't do that today. I hope that changes.

America was built on political compromise. The moderates of both parties need to abandon the extremists and form a coalition to make America great again
