is it even possible anymore?

Thomas Jefferson said that the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of Patriots and tyrants from time to time

If I'm being honest, I'm almost there. Except I don't think we have a tyrant in charge, in fact, I'm THRILLED with our president.

There are many people, some whom I respect immensely, that are 180 degrees from where I am politically, that feel the same way.

14 years ago I won custody of a 13 month old baby girl & I was a small business owner starting out. Message boards became my social life & outlet - things are different now, I still have the girl and I still like message boards, but I'm in a better place.

But I have NEVER been this angry and ready for a fight.

Many of my friends on the left feel the same way.

So, how do we fix this?

OR are we at the point of no return?

I think all things go in cycles and this is a particularly nasty one. There is a lot of misinformation flying around that is fueling the fires of division. It is up to citizens to not take anything at face value. That does take work and therein lies the problem. America has become a sound byte, drive through, spare me the details nation. That's not good when it comes to politics especially when it has gotten this partisan.

My wife had a party with her faculty and grad students at our house last month. I asked her "Do you want me there, seriously?" As you might imagine they are all anti-Trump, Hillary supporters. But it worked out, only because not one word of politics was uttered. To me that is sad because I love to discuss concepts and debate but you just can't do that today. I hope that changes.

Not worried about internal strife. Those who claim to be Angry return their elected representative about 90+% of the time. The #1 way a congressman/senator loses their job is retirement.

In short, those who are "angry" are frankly too dumb to know what they are fighting for.

Get rid of all the liberals. Give them free tickets to any socialist country of their choice.

No offense candy, but you have not yet demonstrated an ability to banter politely with me or anyone on the right that I have seen

I am not talking about voting patterns or the problems surrounding perpetual incumbancy - that problem persists in highly liberal areas just as much as it does in conservative enclaves

I am asking if there is still enough common ground for liberal and consevative Americans to join together in harmony and with a commonality of purpose

And if there is, where do we start?

Our Constitution, science, definitions and legal facts are just a few of the very important and relevant things that we all have in common. So, I generally try to focus my debates and arguments around those things.

The libtardz still don't want any part of it.

That is why I have so little respect for most of them and it's also why I show no mercy for them when it comes down to even the smallest points of contention.

People thought that more information would lead to more openness, people would know the truth because it would be louder than the lies. Politicians would be unable to hide things, and everything would be good.

The opposite is true. They've taken the book from advertisers who realize that people are very good at being manipulated.

So, how do you stop people being manipulated? You don't. It's impossible. So it depends all on the manipulators, and those are either red or blue, partisan politics and they'll rip the country open to remain in charge.

I don't recall saying it did.

And I'm assuring you that no such uncrossable gap exist; anymore than it did during the 1960's or especially 1860 for that matter.

And if there is, where do we start?

An informed electorate would be a good start. Having a President that doesn't declare he is using "alternative facts" or anything derogatory is "fake news" would be a good start too; the informed electorate would take care of the former come to think about it.

The only major change is the tenor of the discussion. Try to have a conversation about HRC with someone on the right wing and see how long it takes before the word "bitch" is brought up. Have your stopwatch handy.

The American people have been more-or-less brainwashed into accepting an ideology that the few haves and the majority have-nots is acceptable, tolerable, and the American Way. The Federal Government is not trusted by nearly half the country, the Republicans, and they send conservative politicians to Congress in order to block legislation which is aimed at lifting the working class out of debt and poverty proposed by Democrats. Republicans are elected to block legislation aimed at ensuring the safety of children and innocent citizens from gun violence. They block funding for the working poor to be helped obtain abortions and reflect the Biblicism of fundamental Christians. They reduce funding for food at school, medical care, and help for the elderly. Not only do modern Republicans block progressive legislation, they promote the interests of bankers, financiers, the very wealthy, through tax breaks but the want taxes rolled-back so that the Federal and State governments cannot afford progressive programs. Republicans block organized labor to help the working class by promoting right-to-fire in the states and they depress wages by opposing a minimum wage which amounts to a living wage while adding to the national debt by funding anything the industrial military complex asks of them. Republicans are where the racists go; people who hate Blacks, Mexicans, Arabs, and have no desire to offer asylum to Muslims fleeing for their lives from war. Republicans think reciting jingoistic slogans is patriotism while they want to send American youth to foreign wars and then fail to fund help for sick, out-of-work, and needy veterans. In short, Modern Republicans have no concept of society and the onus on government to promote equality, not elitism. In short, Americans cannot be one nation and Republican at the same time.

I'm not sure we should "become one nation" again. We just have to learn to discuss our differences in a civil manner.

Ridiculing the loud mouthed radio talk show hosts would be a start.

Not voting for people who sound like they are trying to start a war would be the next.

This fan like following of politicians has to stop though. In a way I was thinking the last election could help break the "rah rah my team/political party is infallible" mentality many people have as many old Democratic demographics voted republican and some Republicans voted Democrat. Guess not.

Just over the last few threads I have read it seems:

I love Social Security,
I like guns,
I'm pro choice,
I like the military.

Too bad neither party has exactly my agenda in mind so I think on some issues I can get along with a good number of people.

The globalist elite is getting the boot slowly but surely. In the US much but probably not most of the Blue Wall state bonds will be rated junk prior to the 2018 election. Lower federal and/or increasing state and local taxes will speed up the internal capital flight is growing at a compound rate anyway that will cause a few blue states to flip as well. So everybody just keep the pins in.

The time has come to break the union up and a new two or three countries form out of the remnants. Go be happy.

That's because she is - and as a women and registered Dem, I can speak that truth.

Well, one of the problems is that we agree on very little. There is not much common ground to stand on.
