CDZ I'm angry, most of us are - how do we bridge the divide and become one nation again?

Does the tenor of the discussion create an atmosphere for respectful disagreement?

I hope so, that's certainly what I am going for ITT

When you start with the word “bitch”, do you think anyone on the left is going to hear the rest of what is said?

No, but I never went down that road ITT, I saw it done, but did not participate in hateful rhetoric in this discussion...

I’m sorry if it doesn’t further our thread here but it is the Right Wing almost to a poster that engages in this sort of rough language.

Yeah, I disagree vehemently on this

I rarely engage in nasty personal comments & I see a lot of it from both sides, I see more from the left on this forum - TBH it's probably a function of our own biases that we each notice offenses from "the other side" more frequently...

Not sure if you know how to do it but call up google in your browser. On the Search Bar; type in the following “site:usmessageboard.com” now to the LEFT of the word “site” type in whatever you want to search for and your search will be limited to this site on the internet.

Now look up derogatory terms associated with Clinton and Trump. I used “bitch” the other day and had over 8300 hits. Now, were all of them about Clinton? No. But it does lend itself to the tenor needing to be changed before the listening and understanding will take place.

As for the video, I hope it shows you the truth….that we all have a great amount of commonality. We’re fathers, mothers…like Chess or checkers…like musicals or plays….have the paper come off the roll counter-clockwise or incorrectly. A very small part of our lives—and one that isn’t even important 90% of the time—national politics divides us. If that is what your entire life is about; I think you’re a good candidate for pity.

I start a thread asking ng how we can come together and that's your takeaway?

Really?

I'm going off of the thread title alone. I haven't read anything else. Nothing short of a full scale military attack will bring is together. Even with the terrorism that surrounds us; nearly every one thinks that they'll hear about it in the news. Not; that their death will be on the news. A full scale military invasion is just about the only thing that would prompt most of us to grant quarter to the other side.
Probably. But I'm no longer certain that would be enough.

I have to admit, that was my first thought too when I read the OP.

You've stated twice in this thread that you'd like to see the nation divide.

Please make up your mind.

No, I stated twice that I would not necessarily be opposed to seeing a split into 2 nations, but that I thought that such a plan is unrealistic and impractical

Oh! Not opposed. My bad.
It's really easy to "not be opposed" to something that will never happen...

I see. You are making perfect sense now. You really are opposed to the idea, but since it will never happen, you decided to say that you aren't opposes to it.

Got it.

Really?

Pretty much.

Honestly, how often does anything the President or Supreme Court decides affects your life? Hardly ever.
The reason we know so much about it is because there are 400 media outlets covering every move they make.
The situation on Main Street pretty much looks the same as it did when Nixon was in office.

How do we bridge the divide?

By having lunch with the other.

By asking questions and listening.

To actual people.

Thomas Jefferson said that the tree of liberty must be refreshed with the blood of Patriots and tyrants from time to time

If I'm being honest, I'm almost there. Except I don't think we have a tyrant in charge, in fact, I'm THRILLED with our president.

There are many people, some whom I respect immensely, that are 180 degrees from where I am politically, that feel the same way.

14 years ago I won custody of a 13 month old baby girl & I was a small business owner starting out. Message boards became my social life & outlet - things are different now, I still have the girl and I still like message boards, but I'm in a better place.

But I have NEVER been this angry and ready for a fight.

Many of my friends on the left feel the same way.

So, how do we fix this?

OR are we at the point of no return?

What the hell are you so angry at? Things are going your way and your man won. Why are you so mad? Perhaps it's the right wing poison that you feed yourself every day? That stuff will turn anyone into an angry person.

It's NOT going to happen. The internet amplifies the caterwauling of the most hysterical and dramatic, but that is not a true reflection of America and Americans. We are ONE nation, under God, indivisible...

LOL Yes the internet amplifies those with a god-delusion. Those prone to the hysterics and dramatics of pretending to be all knowing and all seeing overseers of the world. Pity them then move on. The internet also provides a place for thought-less repeating of memes and cliches. As if a mantra repeated over and over gains power just by repeating the words. Like a religious mantra.

It doesn't. The OP notes many are angry. Many are. Better everyone go their separate ways than start a shooting war, which both sides are starting to put forth as a possibility.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Go ahead, pick a time frame and then check back in when it comes and goes and the US is still here. Go ahead.

I don't think the left would fare very well in a shooting war!

See 'The Civil War' to find out.

That was back when men were men. Lol. Things have changed. You have a bunch of confused men/women with pierced lips and tongues living in their mom's basements because they can't get a job with their "liberal arts" degrees. :D

Are we talking about "can't get a job" or can't get a career? We have been having a difficult time finding folks for jobs since the last year or two of the Obama administration. Back in '09 or '10 we were just amazed at the quality of applicants we'd get.

how do we bridge the divide and become one nation again?

For starters, end the labels. I notice half the people here have an unkind label for anyone they don't agree with! Just before, I heard the term on TV---- Alt-Left.

Alt-Left, Alt-Right, NeoCon------ labels, where do they end? Before a nation can heal, it has to stop dividing itself.

I'm not angry. I am happy. We are FINALLY moving in the right direction. The more the leftist cry out in pain the better I feel. We ONLY hear about "healing the divide" whey they lose. When they win we are told to suck on it, losers".

The only way to get along with leftists is to give them everything they demand, which means giving up my status as a citizen and becoming a ward of the state. Would I fight to the death over it? You betcha. Just like our founders.

Stop the widening gap between the rich and poor. A big strong happy middle class will do it.

You can't have free market unregulated capitalism. It has to be regulated. And some things like healthcare need to be regulated. Maybe even socialized.

If your way is going to work people need to stop having kids. A major population decrease. I'm all for that. Too many people now
Leftist policies increase the gap between the rich and poor. Problem is they are all brainwashed into believing it's righties' fault. 8 years of it under Obama doesn't even register as a clue.

You have to look at History, we have always been whacking each other from day one. Blk white Jews Indians and other have not agreed on many subjects, what many people and Nations don't understand we tend to beat the hell out of the outsiders, and then go b ack whacking each other.

Not worried about internal strife. Those who claim to be Angry return their elected representative about 90+% of the time. The #1 way a congressman/senator loses their job is retirement.

In short, those who are "angry" are frankly too dumb to know what they are fighting for.
No offense candy, but you have not yet demonstrated an ability to banter politely with me or anyone on the right that I have seen

I am not talking about voting patterns or the problems surrounding perpetual incumbancy - that problem persists in highly liberal areas just as much as it does in conservative enclaves

I am asking if there is still enough common ground for liberal and consevative Americans to join together in harmony and with a commonality of purpose

And if there is, where do we start?
The Progressives are always wanting the Repubs to "Reach across the isle" and it should be added and vote our way. The Repubs need to stop doing that and if for any reason they like the Bill being voted on just don't vote. The Progressive have had the majority so your reaching across the isle just weaklings the party. The Progressive "Deal making" has got to stop.

Get rid of all the liberals. Give them free tickets to any socialist country of their choice.
That was don't at the start of our Nation, the Friends of England called Torys moved to Canada. We should have forced them out of Canada also.
