CDZ How are deaths by terrorism different than deaths by mass shootings?

From 2000 to 2015, 90 people have been killed by terrorists in the UK.

From 2000 to 2012, 246 people have been killed in the US during mass shootings.

Why are Americans so concerned about so called Islamic terrorism and not concerned about mass shootings?

What is the difference?

The likelihood of an American dying of a terrorist attack is 1 in 45,808. You are more likely to die choking on food, 1 in 3, 409.

How likely are foreign terrorists to kill Americans? The odds may surprise you

The number of 246 is generated by lying. They are taking cases where family members kill their families. Terrible without question, but does not conform to the definition of a active/mass casualty shooter. The reality is the two mass shootings in Norway and Paris, have killed more people than all of the mass shootings in the USA over the last 20 years.

If they wanted to actually reduce the number of murders here in the US it would be comparatively easy, we know that 8-10% of the criminal population commits 60% of the violent crime here in the US. Lock those ultra violent offenders up forever and the murder rate here would plummet. The overwhelming majority of those criminals are gang bangers. Heck, Chicago has 150,000 KNOWN gang bangers. That's insane.
I took the number from legitimate mass shootings: school shootings, workplace shootings, mall shootings, and theatre shooting. No family shootings.

And, like I said, they screw with those statistics. They will count a random gang shooting on the street as a school shooting if it is within three blocks of a school. Gang on gang shootings are likewise not considered to be mass shootings (but the anti gun groups DO count them) as they are technically at war with each other. They just don't care that innocent people might be in the way.

I don't have the page anymore, but I counted the incidents and numbers of death one by one: ALL were school shootings, theater shootings, mall shootings, etc. NOT GANG SHOOTINGS. Sorry. Again, you are looking for excuses to prove something isn't right when it is.

Could it be because many of us simply do not agree with what you would call a 'solution' to them?

Mass shootings in our country are a political issue; for the right, the deaths seem to be relegated to collateral damage; fro the left it is about gun laws. There doesn't seem to be as much concern about mass shooting deaths as there is about terrorism, or possible terrorist deaths. I wonder why, as there are more deaths by mass shootings, they don't seem to concern people as much as the threat of terrorism.

First....define mass shooting.

Second, does your link show these mass shootings? The one source I use is the Mother Jones mass shooting tracker...

And...3,000 people were murdered in a terrorist attack in this country in 2001......that would be why.

islamic terrorists are trained and encouraged by networks around the world and are attempting to get weapons of mass destruction........Iran is trying to get nuclear weapons and could very easily hand off nuclear material to their minions.....and again....3,000 people died in one attack.......

Tell that to the 3,000 Americans who died on 9/11.

Or the thousands killed by Muslims since then, right?

Oh wait, it's white domestic terrorists that kill Americans.

If you RWNJs cared about Americans dying, you would demand sensible gun laws.

We have sensible gun laws....it is people like you who fight longer jail sentences for gun criminals...the actual thing that will lower gun violence rates.

And please...you don't get to just throw out "sensible gun laws" and walk away........name these gun laws and explain how they would stop mass shootings...since that is the topic here....please...go ahead......you guys never do.......because you know that we have already shown how these "sensible gun laws" are not sensible...and do not target actual criminals...they do, however, attack normal gun owners.

The terrorists could be more deadly than they are if we were less vigilant.

Its something newsworthy we can fight against.

People also like to be hypocritical. I can never get the DHS fellows to fight against as much against drunk drivers than terrorists.
This is a good point.

"How big is the problem? In 2014, 9,967 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (31%) of all traffic-related deaths in the United States."

Far more people are killed by drunk drivers than by mass shootings or terrorism. One of my points is to put things in perspective. We should be more diligent in preventing drunk driving.

My point all the time......but anti-gunners are like the book burners....they have an irrational fear of guns and so nothing short of banning and confiscating guns will ever make them happy. While 36,000 people died in car accidents, while 489 died in gun accidents...in a country of over 320 million people with 400 million guns in private hands...

Sensible gun law?

If you use a gun for an actual crime...rape, robbery, murder......you go to prison for 30 years.

Get rid of gun free zones.

Right there you end mass shootings and lower the gun crime rate.....

The reality? You are just wrong. Our gun laws are working prettty well....our sentencing laws need the work...

We went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400 million guns in private hands and over 15.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2017...guess what happened...

-- gun murder down 49%
--gun crime down 75%
--violent crime down 72%

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.

Tell that to the gays that were at Pulse. 15% of the occupants of the club were killed , another 16% injured, for a total of 31% of the occupants that horrific night.

Esmeralda is right-------response should be PROPORTIONAL statistically
An appropriate response to the Islamic action at the "Pulse" would be ----
locate a nice big IFTAR fest------and machine gun 31% of the participants----try
not to kill all of those hit by gunfire. Fair is fair

Ask the OP'er seeing they are more worried about Mass shootings which are still rare just like the possible act of terrorism by a Muslim on U.S. soil. I am more worried about if you will get in your mini-van and drive 45 mph in the fast lane of a interstate while conversing on a cellphone seeing I could be killed that way far quicker than some mental midget with a gun or bomb!

Nonsense!

CNN runs stories about mass shootings when they happen and how many guns laws will it take until you realize that it will not stop someone from killing or doing something to harm society. Notice in France they have been using trucks, and it has happen here where people that have gotten mad have used their automobile to kill others with and yet you have no concern at all about auto's being used in acts of mass killing no matter reltated to terrorism or not....

testimony including a claim that the witness KNOWS what WORRIES a
person he does not even know-------is invalid. I do not believe that a

indignation that he FEARS TERRORISM for his own person

The last administration changed the definition, by lowering the overall number to be included as a mass shooting, as well.

Second, does your link show these mass shootings? The one source I use is the Mother Jones mass shooting tracker...

And...3,000 people were murdered in a terrorist attack in this country in 2001......that would be why.
