As at August 8th of last year, Obama had taken 125 vacation days since he took office. At the same point in his presidency, George W. Bush had taken 407. Yes, trips to the ranch in Crawford might be a bit cheaper than Obama's vacation, but he made the trip so often, that the expenses are far greater than Obama's spending.

Presidents are never really off the clock. Even when nominally "on vacation" all Presidents, Obama included, are called upon to deal with all manner of crises and emergencies. Obama actually returned to the White House for two days during this past August's vacation to Martha's Vineyard.

In total, George W. Bush took 533 vacation days during his 4 years in office. Reagan took 390 days of vacation in 8 years. Clinton's total for 8 years is 174 days. These numbers don't include time spent at Camp David. If you include time spent at Camp David, Bush's total well is over 800 days.

So of the 8 years spent in the White House, both W and Reagan took more than a year off. Including time spent at Camp David, W took over two years off.

Republicans have no wiggle room on their President's vacations. Republican Presidents are rank slackers compared to Democrats.

Really, compared with the billions that Dick Cheney (through Haliburton) made off with, Donald Rumsfeld and his Tami-Flu purchase for the military when he was Sec. of Defense (Rumsfeld was a major shareholder of the company which sold the Tami-Flu to the military), and the other fiscal malfeasance by W and his merry band of crooks, Obama's vacations are a drop in the bucket.

I don't buy 125 days. BHO is always up and out. Golf is almost on each trip. To me that is Vacation days too. Just because he swings by after 5 min "official" appearance then off to fundraiser ending in Golf. The trips have not stopped. Constant pleasure trips. Nice try to confuse issue.

The TaxPayer does not have to pay to shut down the course for hours surrounded by SS for your lawyer boss to Golf. Obama has had more than 125 rounds of Golf? A round of Golf is a pretty full day, travel, dress, warmup etc. can be 6 hours easy + commute time.

Cost is easily $300/person at the sites he goes. A full course shotgun start can be 144 golfers. He also golfed with criminal in HI. Don't get me wrong I love Golf, to tell you truth I not surprised he goes. He had Hank Haney lessons for few days session in FLA. How many?

A good course daily revenue could easily hit $100K. Say he takes 1/2 of day to "shut it down". $50K*200 rounds = $10mil dollars. What is his salary? $400K? It don't add up. Who pays for the SS to Golf with him? Give it up. He (and others) are abusing the taxpayer. I not easily accept it for any of them.

So that brings is to the real meat and potatoes in all of this. People who are complaining about Obama's vacations and their potential costs need to start putting their money where their mouths are, and start identifying specifics. What do you want Obama to reduce?

Degree of access while on vacation

That's what it all comes down to. If you are unhappy with the costs, then pick one of those three that you think should be reduced.

Just how much "lost revenue" do you think actually would be occurring? No doubt, when the President goes golfing there are special needs that he has to ask to be met. But you are over estimating (assuming) what they are, and just exactly how a course may or may not be able to adjust.

Listen, you are trying to argue something, by making allegations which are simply false. The President pays his own fees for his golf. Period. At most, the government might be picking up the tab for something like golf cart rentals used by Secret Service tailing the President. But the President is paying for his own cart rental. If a golf course were to shut down completely to accommodate the President, that would not be an expense that would be chargeable to the government. It would be a service being consumed by the man himself.

But it's most likely that no such shut down occurs. More likely a series of security measures might require screening of people entering the facility, a buffer zone while the President makes his way through the course, things like that. No doubt, there is going to be inconvenience for other patrons, which has at times led some courses to decline serving the President. I know this because I happen to have once worked at a resort that has hosted several Congressional events where both Obama and Bush have made appearances, including on the golf course. I have first hand experience with the way security tends to be handled. You can bet that nobody will be permitted to go introduce themselves and take selfies with the POTUS. But that doesn't require shutting down the entire course while he's playing.
