To use the same analogy ... a pineapple cake and a chocolate cake have many of the same ingredients in common (analogous to gene sequences in this example).

But all cake recipes are variations on an original recipe (the proto-cake). Variations in the ingredients (changes to the gene sequences) create different types of cakes. These variations however aren't introduced by errors in replications, but by chefs.

If cakes were self-replicating then replications errors in the recipes would lead to variations from the original proto-cake. Most of those mistakes would make no difference or lead to a bad cake. But, occasionally, it leads to chocolate cakes and ultimately to the pinnacle of cake evolution.

Here's the thing. The Hebrew Bible (Torah) isn't your bible. Your bible is a translation of Torah to Greek, then Latin, then English (and most other languages) filtered through the eyes (and minds) of the translators. They crafted the translations to best fit their religious beliefs.

If I were trying to convert you to Judaism then it might make sense to point out where the meanings diverge. But, since we don't do that and I have no interest in changing your religious beliefs, it's best for you to stick with the text that makes you most comfortable. I enjoy having theological discussions with Jews, because we have a common shared belief. But, with non-Jews it becomes problematic.
