In a huge political gaffe, Pelosi publicly LIED to the world when she declared DHS and the Secret Service could not provide security for the President / Congress during her shutdown. (The fact that she would lie about something so easily debunked is a testimony to her own ignorance / incompetence.) Both the DHS and SS quickly came out to declare what Pelosi had claimed was FALSE and that she nor anyone else had talked to them before she made the statement.
The truth is that - like Obama was caught doing during his Presidency - Pelosi was caught attempting to make her shutdown seem worse than it was and to blame the President for it. She was attempting to hijack the US govt / Presidency to deny the President his opportunity to talk to the American people again.
Despite Pelosi's despicable lies and artisan tricks, the President is determined to go ahead with the speech.

I personally hope the President holds the SotU speech in the Senate where there is enough room to allow the members of the USSC to attend but no room for Pelosi and her Obstructionist / Govt shutdown-running House. The President could explain that despite Pelosi's attempts to stop the speech it was still being held, and as a result of her refusal to allow him t speak in the House he had to do so in the Senate, where there was no room for the House....'they can watch it on TV like everyone else'.
Pelosi is afraid of the President speaking to the American people, especially after her huge lie about the DHS and SS and especially after being caught attempting to sneak out of the country in the middle of her shutdown instead of being in DC doing her job / part to try to end it.
Go for it, Mr. President. Give the Speech.
