Can pristine longevity, alone, make a player the GOAT of his sport?

How did Jordan do that?

Same way that Lebron did it.

Yes think about how you sat in front of your device, outraged, watching on 09 JUL 2010 as Lebron teamed up with 2 other superstars/creating a superteam to win NBA Finals. Oh but our hypocrisy kept us, silent, when 3 superstars yes 3 first-ballot HOF players came together to create a superteam from 1995-1998 yes to win 3 straight nba championships.

The doublestandard. Yes. That is the sole reason why Jordan is still put on the same level as Lebron.

So all three were free agents and signed with Chicago? Two were drafted by Chicago, not Jordan. The other was a trade where the Bulls had to send Perdue to San Antonio to get Rodman. No free agency.

So all three were free agents and signed with Chicago?

No. It was something far, far worse and more sinister.

Jordan Phil & Jerry sat up and, concocted, a scenario to get Rodman in a trade. Go look at the meetings they had, to vett Rodman, before deciding if they'll pull the trade off. Go research the (private) behavioral guarantees Jordan & Pippen sought from, Rodman, before giving Jerry the greenlight to pull off the trade.

And consider any players involved in the Rodman trade, who didn't want to be traded ---then be thankful that there were no such players on 09 JUL 2010.

If it is longevity then Jabbar is the GOAT. Not even close.

Actually, that's true. But not so much, if we go by pristine longevity. In that case, Lebron has the slight edge, because Kareem's first 17yrs were about as pristine as Lebron's or slightly lower than Lebron's.
For the 4th or 5th straight year now Lebron is (currently) a MVP candidate ---plus he leads the league in assists. Whereas Kareem was no longer 'that' pristine, by years 15-17, when he avg about 22.5ppg 3ast and only 6rpg as a 7'1" player over 28mins per game during that time. Lebron avg about 26/9/8 for years 15-17 while playing 35mins per game, including his 15th season/lead the league @ 37mins per game.

Kareem really fell off and became mediocre, or worse, if you go by seasons 18-20 of his. So if you go by his first 17yrs vs Lebron's 17yrs then their pristine longevity is more even.

Jabbar had four years of pristine college play, something Lebron didn’t have to do. In those four years he was not allowed to play varsity college ball as a freshman his first year, the three years he did he won three NCAA championships. Jabbar then played into his 40’s. So when LeBron hits 40 let’s see how he does.

Sorry pal, this is not about NCAA. NBA only.

We can't punish Lebron because Jabbar didn't go pro out of high school.

Jabbar then played into his 40’s. So when LeBron hits 40 let’s see how he does.

Once again, you focus on longevity instead of pristine longevity like the thread's title with respect to being the GOAT player.

GOAT player is Michael Jordan. We assert this based on any subjective criteria we decide to use in virtue of it being a subjective title to begin with.

Jabbar was not allowed to go pro out of high school. He could not play pro ball until his class graduated from college. Sorry, you can't punish Jabbar for having to play college ball.

I think he was being daft and missing your point...

That Jabbar was forced to have 4 additional years of wear and tear that princess LeBron was not subject to. But the big poor baby LeBron still had leg cramps and he often choked in the playoffs in key moments.

I remember his 1st try with Miami, when the games biggest moments occurred versus the Mavs...(and their game 5 loss vs boston @home) he was awkwardly passing the ball away like a hot potato and nobody could understand why. Ill never forget that series, he completely choked.

I don't think he understands any basketball before LeBron. Imagine Jordan if he played in this era with the hand check rule. His shooting and scoring would have been a lot better, if that is possible.

Almost every player agrees it was the more physical era back then too, yupp.

Jordan was just determined and nobody has shown that special "thing" that hes got, ever since.

I cant even watch Lebrons goofy looking dribble or his goofy looking jumpshot. He was just blessed with his giant boxy frame.

80s and 90s NBA was its golden era. Its been watered down trash ever since. We used to have a great pool of Centers, even.

That was my favorite era, Bird, Dr. J, Magic, Jordan, Jabbar, Sikma, Walton, Parrish, Karl and Moses Malone, the Twin Towers, Olajuwon, Ewing, Parrish, Stockton, Drexler, Barkley, Mullins, Dawkins, the Paxon brothers, Klay's dad Mychael, McHale, Thomas, Worthy, Wilkins, Pippin, Kemp, Miller, Payton, Kidd and I know I left off an obvious person but those two decades were filled with great players and stars.

You forgot about some subjectivity, in that case...

Better teammate... Lebron

Had to retire for 1.5yrs in '93, to get reenergized... Jordan

Better jump shooter... Lebron

Better 3pt shooter... Lebron

Better shot-blocker... Lebron

Better at physically fighting his own teammates... Jordan

Better passer... Lebron

Smarter player... Lebron

Took seven (7) years to finally make it to an NBA Finals... Jordan

Better rebounder... Lebron

Better floor general... Lebron

Had to retire, again, for 1.5yrs in '98 to get reenergized... Jordan

Barely avg 20pts per game in his 16th season... Jordan

Did avg 25/7/7 in his 16th seasons... Lebron

Better assists man... Lebron

Only the 2nd player in NBA history, to lead his teams to eight (8) straight NBA Finals... not Jordan :5_1_12024:

thats all nice subjective criteria...however, Lebron will not surpass Michael in the Goat convoes of the future and the folks who watched those eras know why. A few folks will give the nod to lebron...but shit....some were giving it to Iverson

Nothing sinister about it. San Antonio wanted to get rid of Rodman, Chicago want to make sure he’d get a long with the team as Rodman was a problem player and people tired of his antics.

Again drafting, trading, while James decided who he went and played for. If I were James I’d do the same and stay in the weaker east to get to more finals.

The folks who understand every era AND how America always works ... are the few folks who veraciously understand why you are correct here. That America will never let Lebron pass Jordan; it's for reasons that have nothing, whatsoever, to do with the game of NBA basketball.

Big media strategically brainwashed us into hallucinating Jordan, as GOAT, and that is why he's the only player who's playoffs failures we aren't allowed to talk about ---in terms of the nine (9) different seasons that Jordan played and, failed, at getting his team to the NBA Finals.

Sorry pal, but I refuse to play pretend. When it is regarding the colossal things that the Bulls did regarding Rodman ---while he was still on the Spurs.

It was the exact same level/same degree of, short cut, as James deciding to go to MIA.

I cannot play pretend about how what the Bulls did during Sept 1995 was, exactly, strategically and intentionally forming a Superteam.

Pro basketball needs to eliminate at least a half dozen teams. Changes in free agency needs to be done also. It is a great sport but it is overrated. Jordan spent three years trying baseball in the middle of his two three peats. You have to wonder if he could have won nine championships in a row. Or did the three year break help the Bulls to reload with other players.
