California now has $2.4 billion surplus. Another liberal success

Detroit had some left wing loon cheerleaders too...spinning out false propaganda...for many years as the Democrats took it down into the abyss of socialism and bankruptcy.

I blame the GOP state government for what happened in Detroit.

Never mind that dems have run detroit down the hole starting back in the 70's. Its no surprise that you wouldn't take accountability and responsibility.

democrats, liberals, and unions = the destruction of the once great city of Detroit.

Yeah, move to Florida where your business could disappear completely...

Huge sinkhole swallows homes in Florida

one earthquake is all it takes out here Wytch.....

Lightning (FL) kills the most. Earthquakes didn't even make the short list. Tornadoes (FL) did.

Republicans have been in charge of the State Senate ever since 1985.

They've held the Governor's office for 32 of the last 50 years.

The state house has been Republican for all but 6 of the last 20 years

The state government of Michigan is by far a Republican run town. The Detroit metro area comprises ~50% of the population of Michigan. The Republicans have just as much blame as the Democrats, if not more. I would say more since State Government > Local Government.

All you've done is explain how the state of Michigan has managed to remain viable and relatively healthy since the massive exodus of the auto industry..

The damage was contained to Detroit and wasn't created, enabled, or toyed with by the State Government..

For years, state officials had warned Detroit’s elected leaders to stop bickering. If the council and mayor could not resolve the city’s budget mess, Michigan’s leaders said, the state government might have to intervene to ensure that residents would get basic services and programs. This was a city so broken that at one point almost half its streetlights did not come on at night.

Detroit’s elected officials ignored the threats, and, in April 2012, a state-appointed financial advisory board stepped in to help the city avoid running out of money. That did not work either, as Mayor Dave Bing and the City Council battled the advisory panel over the best way to restructure city services. In a last attempt to assist the
state’s largest city, Governor Rick Snyder in March 2013 named an emergency manager with the power to remake its budget and services instead of Detroit’s elected officials. But the emergency manager could not repair the city’s finances in time to avert bankruptcy.

Sure but the wages suck and you have the largest group of uninsured in the country and those on welfare. Like a republican state. low wages and low taxes for corporations so the working class has to subsidies the low wages for those on food stamps.
Yes sir, just brag like hell about all of that stuff

Deluding yourself into believing that Californian Democrats can and will crawl out from under $340 billion in liabilities through "adjustments to revenue and benefits" is testament to your inability to comprehend state finances and your blind faith in Liberals.

Conservatives were predicting the Californian Democrats couldn't solve the budget deficit either not too long ago too.

Conservatives always make stupid predictions. We're still waiting for the massive inflation from QE2. And what ever happened to the cheering Iraqis predicted ten years ago?

Tell you what, why don't conservatives just shut the f___ up instead, and let liberals run things. California has proven what can be accomplished when conservative power is brought to an end.

You know what Velveeta? I'll give you California. But us conservatives see successful GOP governments in states like Texas and North Dakota, with millions of new jobs and massive private sector growth. As for California, that state is freaking ridiculous when it comes to pensions. I have an uncle(a staunch Democrat, by the way, I guess the Hoosier side of the family has a bit more sense than the California side) who works as a cop and collects a pension from an old job (after working just 20 years, straight out of community college) while working in a different town. And these salaries are at 100% of prior income. Incredible..... Those towns and municipalities are all going bankrupt, even if the state is doing OK.......but also remember that Governor Brown foisted lots of new responsibilities onto the local areas for jails, meaning they're going to face even more of a squeeze.

I'd much rather move to North Dakota than California, unless I wanted to be a government union worker.

Viable and relatively healthy? They were the only state to go into population decline in 2009 and 2010. They had the highest unemployment rate in the nation for 5 years! Northern Michigan was horrendous for employment. Michigan by no measure at all was "healthy and viable"

When 50% of your state's population is in one area you tend to try to focus on that area quite a bit. The Republicans could've done much more for the 50% of Michigan in the Detroit area.

And it was NOT just Detroit....ever hear of Flint? Saginaw? They fell apart just as bad....going to blame the local officials and not the state government for them as well????

Given the oblivious piss poor local management in those cities? Why yes I am...

The state gave them ample opportunity to LEAD.. They refused to rise to the challenge. That's the way it SHOULD be. Local govt should have MORE discretion to succeed or fail on their own terms.

Okay...how about this...

Add up the Flint area, Tri-city area (Saginaw), and the Detroit area and you close in on 60% of the state's population...How the F*ck do you explain the Republican State government not taking ANY responsibility for 60% of the population???

You don't know anything about politics if you think that some local government can bully around a state government.

Putting all the blame on some cities councils who have zilch for power is nothing but a cheesy cop out that anyone could see through.

Screw California. After living here the last 35 years, and with 2 1/2 to go, I'm taking my retirement dollars and the otherwise State tax revenue with me..

What a cluster this state has become

What prompted the turnaround?

Three things: Major spending cuts over the last few years, big tax increases approved by voters in November and general improvement in the economy.

California's finances are golden again

This is a perfect example of the stupidity and dishonesty of dimocraps and why they should never be in charge of anything.

California's real debts are 'off budget'. And the temporary upsurge in money they got was from an unconstitutional, ex post facto tax that has businesses in California PISSED OFF.

Jerry Brown Stands Atop California's Collapsing House Of Cards - Forbes

And they are absolutely hemorrhaging jobs and people to other States, particularly Texas.

California isn't running a surplus. Unless you count lying dirtbag dimocrap scum.

They have a surplus of them.

Enjoy it while you can, dimocrap liars. It's all you got. It's all you know how to do.

Lie.

When the dust clears, California will be bankrupt AGAIN sooner than you think.

Its Cities are setting records for bankruptcy filings. And the State will soon follow

Rick Perry to tour California big cities - Katie Glueck - POLITICO.com

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is stepping up efforts to woo the California business community, even as his earlier attempts were dismissed as “barely a fart” by the Golden State governor.
The GOP governor of the Lone Star State will leave on Sunday for a swing through San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles and Orange County, where he will meet with “business leaders in the high tech, biotechnology, financial, insurance and film industries,” according to a statement from his office released Thursday. The trip comes after a week-long ad buy Perry took on California airwaves, in which he praised his state’s business climate and slammed the Golden State’s.

“Building a business is tough, but I hear building a business in California is next to impossible,” Perry says in the ad, which goes on to praise the Lone Star State’s “low taxes, sensible regulations and fair legal system.”
“This is Texas Gov. Rick Perry and I have a message for California businesses: come check out Texas,” he continues in the 30-second hit, which is posted on the website TexasWideOpenForBusiness.com, where Perry offers a longer statem

Yep. We have pleasant people here who will do a good job. Give 'em Sundays off and they'll work twice as hard the next week and bring you a pecan pie for Thanksgiving.

TAX THE RICH THAT MAKES MORE THEN 1 million per year at 39% percent on capita gains and income.

It works...

It works? For whom?.
What works?.....
Hey sunshine, have you any sort of grasp on history as it relates to fiscal policy and revenue?
Here's the short version....Every time the federal government lowers tax rates and combines those with requisite spending reductions, revenue INCREASED...
You libs look upon taxation not as a source of revenue, but as a means of punishment.
Here's an example.
Obama was asked in an interview his thoughts on the merits of the 15% Capital Gains Tax rate. He was reminded that since the rate was lowered, revenues to the federal government increased from Cap Gains. Obama's response was that the 'rate was inappropriate"...In other words his ideology answered the question. Not his leadership.
You people and your constant hunger for other people's money is insidious.
One thing I find amusing about your position is the nonsense of it. You people STILL hang on to the notion that only conservative republicans are wealthy. When reminded of the names of the nation's most prominent liberals with large amounts of wealth, you say "that's different. They 'care' about us"....
They do? Then why do they live in gated communities? Why do they wield their power from high above while leaving themselves loopholes so that they don't have to follow the very rules they invent?

The decay of these cities began decades ago.

True, but I think wine country is mostly Democratic. Is Lake Tahoe and northwards Republican?

Have you ever heard of a search engine? You fail at the internets.

What is in any way magical about Colusa County? I'd never heard of it and it doesn't appear to be any kind of a destination.

Now take Napa County. That's a place where people want to go and it's Democratic by a wide margin.
