California Budget Deficit Grows To $25.4 Billion
California's nonpartisan legislative analyst says the state's budget deficit has grown to $25.4 billion and is now more than a fifth of the general fund. Legislative analyst Mac Taylor said he expects California to face annual budget problems of about $20 billion each year through 2015-16
California Dreamin' mutherfuckers!

Well the Texas dream is in as bad or worse position. But as soon as Weed become legal, they will have so much money they won't know what to do with it. Probably buy the State of Texas.

Why shouldn't the places with the most Mexicans have the economy of Mexico?

Texas deficit might be as high as $25B, but that's a 2 year period.

Big fucking surprise that Obamanomics and the failed ideas of Keynes, FDR and Krugman are hurting Texas.

The State legislature is just a couple of votes short of a 2/3 Democratic majority and has been for years. Now it has a Governor who is a Democrat. I'll bet money that the Dems will convince the majority of people in California that taxes must be raised even though the State has some of the highest taxes in the country. They will convince the people that they will make major cuts too (that won't happen). There are a lot of stupid people in the State and the Democrats never met a tax they didn't like.

And yet our deficit per capita is still better than Texas....

And we are significantly wealthier. And while everybody on earth wants to live here almost nobody wants to live in wyoming, or tejas, or Utah.

And guess what? The oval office is using CA as a template role model to follow.

Yes, it has to be a state where the prior governor was a republican who ran it into bankruptcy, why just like the United States.

We inherited a $25.4 budget deficit from a Returd Governor Arnie, just like the trillions of debt Bush left the United States & Obama to clean up.

Tell us again why we should elect you big spenders.

Why such misrepresentation? The voters of CA did this to the state.

The legislature passes the budget, not the Governor and it has been almost 2/3 Democrats for years. Tell us again why people like you keep electing the big spending DEMOCRATS.

I scouted out southern CA as a possible job/living site in the mid 70's. I decided then that it was nuts there and could not be sustained forever.

Try to find the total debt owed by California, I can not. I know the Governator had to borrow at least 10 billion the first year he was in office and we ran a deficit every year Arnold was governor. The figures on total debt can not be found.

California had a budget surplus until prop 13

And if truth matters, if you have a little education, you know that California had a 10,000,000,000$ dollar budget surplus after Prop 13. That is a 10 billion dollar surplus maybe two years before the Terminator became governor. I could look it up, give the link, its the truth.

There, if you ever post that again you are a liar.

some interesting tidbits here...note the deferrals;

Some of the spending in the budget includes:

* $5.8 billion for the California Community College system, about $108 million more than last year, but $189 million will be deferred until the next fiscal year.[21]

* $5.5 billion each for the University of California and California State University systems, an increase of about $250 million each over the previous year, along with $200 million each to make up for previous cuts.[21]

* $1.6 billion in cuts to state employee pay and benefits.[21]

* $5.4 billion in revenue from the federal government. Congress and President Obama, however, have approved only $1.3 billion to date.[21]

* $1 billion increase in spending over the previous year, made possible by a revenue increase, lawmakers said.[21]

* $43.8 billion for K-12 public education, a slight increase over the previous year, but $1.7 billion of that will be included in the FY2012 budget and paid out in July.[21]

"California's state spending has ballooned in the last decade at a rate much higher than the rate of inflation and rate of population growth in the state. According to Tom Campbell, California's finance director in 2004-2005, if the 1999-2000 budget of former California governor Gray Davis had been increased over the next decade by a factor representing the inflation rate and California's population growth in that time, California would now be experiencing a budget surplus, rather than a deficit even with the recent revenue decline due to the state's economic recession.<6> Instead, California has had a 50% spending increase over the past five years.<7> "

tis doesn't include a huge 360 million dollar payment due net year by Q3 for borrowed unemployment ins. money.
