California Education Goes Full Retard

California is an absolute disaster

Yup, they need to hate Gays and Mexicans, just like Jesus did.

Ummm.....hello, it's not the 70s anymore. They're still reading, they're just using better, more streamlined, cheaper sources. Those books are very expensive and in many subjects, they are outdated as quickly as they can be printed. For example, when I had textbooks every single book was over $60.00. For one book. ONE.

I'm curious what textbooks can be 'outdated" as soon as they are printed. I mean, I get that history books can be outdated, if they end at a point earlier than now. (My HS History books ended with Pre-Watergate Nixon, during the Carter years.) Um, last time I checked, though, math and science worked largely the same way today they did 40 years ago.

Local school boards pick the curriculum and books in CA...

It doesn't matter which books they pick when Communists write all of them.

I'm glad I kept all of my books.

I hope you all realize that "textbooks" are almost entirely a thing of the past now

So is student reading retention.

But yeah, I know, I HAD TEXTBOOKS SO BY GOD SO SHOULD THESE KIDS. Hey I know why don't we just give them slates and chalk

The kids are as stupid as dog stool. They did better with books. In 1970 the American public education system was #1 in the world. Now it is 24th.

That they are as "stupid as dog stool" has nothing to do with textbooks that are often over $150 a pop and can be outdated in two or three years. If you want to make an argument about how great the education system was "back in your day", maybe make sure it's a valid argument.

That ain't it.

Right Joe, exactly. There's absolutely never any new scientific discoveries.

You know I'm starting to understand why you argue the way you do

Right Joe, exactly. There's absolutely never any new scientific discoveries.

Not for purposes of elementary education, no.

I mean, it's interesting that since i was a kid, we found out that Dinosaurs were more closely related to birds than reptiles, but does it make a big deal in basic education on science? Not really. We only spent about a week talking about Dinosaurs in science class when I was a kid.

(There was some amusing points where the nuns tried to reconcile actual science with what we were learning in Religion class. They usually ended up with some smart-ass getting hit with a ruler.)

You know I'm starting to understand why you argue the way you do

I don't think you understand much of anything.

Again, i really can't take anything Jefferson said about "liberty" seriously, when I remember that he kept other human beings as property and routinely raped one of them because she was the half-sister of his dead wife.
Here's the real problem the OP and others have with these education policies. They just don't like the darkies being reminded of the racial inequalities of our country.
It reminds me of the story about when Johnny Cash performed at a prison, and the Warden asked him not to sing any songs that might remind the inmates they are in a prison.
"Do you really think they are going to forget they are in a prison?" Cash answered.

I can't deny the clam that Jefferson owned slaves. And that was a tragedy.
In his time, it was quite common and considered acceptable to many. Just as spousal abuse and child abuse and animal abuse are acceptable to many today.
But the nation has obviously evolved (interms of human slavery). At least we are compensated for our toils today.

But again, I can't really take anything you say about this seriously since you don't seem to know about Anthony Johnson and John Casor.

Do you research. You might just be amazed at what you learn ;)

The population centers (Metro areas) on the coast have totally ruined California. When I lived there it wasn't nearly this bad. They have a one party super majority (Democrat), and are implementing all the Oppressive Totalitarian policies that statist Communists do. I am afraid it is going to have to get much, much worse before it gets better.

Who said we were limiting this conversation to elementary textbooks, for pity's sake? They're not the ones who typically have the expensive textbooks. What are you talking about???

Results tell, and are inarguable.

Stop trying to indoctrinate students and teach them the basics?

They can learn opinions in College, or maybe High School for the smarter ones.

Funny, your side had no problem with indoctrination when the schools celebrated the lives of old dead white guys...

How is that indoctrination?

Despite your OPINION of them, they did great things in history. Your self-loathing apologistic whining aside.

We were talking about public education, so yes, K-12.

Well sure but I guarantee textbooks vs. no textbooks are NOT the reasons for that

With little uncertainty, your observation is likely sound....according to Thomas Jefferson....

"Occasionally the Tree of Liberty Must Be refreshed With The Blood of Tyrants and Patriots"
Thomas Jefferson

IF...there were any "patriots" today, I'm sure this would have already been accomplished

Today, transgenders apparently outnumber Patriots 1,000,000 to 1

Again, i really can't take anything Jefferson said about "liberty" seriously, when I remember that he kept other human beings as property and routinely raped one of them because she was the half-sister of his dead wife.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

"17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks. "

Well, even “Fuller Retard” if that’s possible.

California’s Education Department has issued an “Ethnic Studies Model Curricu-lum” and is soliciting public comments on it until Aug. 15. The legislatively mandated guide is a resource for teachers who want to instruct their students in the field of “ethnic studies,” and was written by an advisory board of teachers, academics and bureaucrats. It’s as bad as you imagine. ...

Begin with economics. Capitalism is described as a “form of power and oppression,” alongside “patriarchy,” “racism,” “white supremacy” and “ableism.” Capitalism and capitalists appear as villains several times in the document. ...

Teachers are encouraged to cite the biographies of “potentially significant figures” such as Angela Davis, Frantz Fanon and Bobby Seale. Convicted cop-killers Mumia Abu-Jamal and Assata Shakur are also on the list. Students are taught that the life of George Jackson matters “now more than ever.” Jackson, while in prison, became “a revolutionary warrior for Black liberation and prison reform.” The Latino section’s people of significance include Puerto Rican nationalists Oscar López Rivera, a member of a paramilitary group that carried out more than 130 bomb attacks, and Lolita Lebrón, who was convicted of attempted murder in a group assault that wounded five congressmen. ...

Such a curriculum presents a serious problem of fairness to students. In a course titled “Math and Social Justice,” will you be graded on having correct answers on the math or politically correct answers on social justice?

This curriculum explicitly aims at encouraging students to become “agents of change, social justice organizers and advocates.” In the sample unit teachers are directed to have students plan “a direct action (e.g., a sit-in, die-in, march, boycott, strike).” Teaching objective history clearly isn’t the goal. Rather, it’s training students to become ideological activists and proponents of identity politics.
Opinion | California Wants to Teach Your Kids That Capitalism Is Racist

“Math and social justice?” WTF is that? Because Johnny thinks 2+2=5 does not mean the world is unjust.

What a freak show CA education has become.

Good, teachers in California will have no problem working for minimum wage.

Communist propaganda in the curriculum has become the norm. All textbooks are printed by Communists now. They have taken over the education system nationwide to varying degrees.

It needs to be taken back, probably by force.

Not a threat, merely an observation.

I have a strong suspicion that there is a much more reasonable explanation for this course. It sounds like a senior-level class, like Comparative Religions, for example, that goes into different PERSPECTIVES of what our traditional institutions and values are. It doesn't hurt to understand them. However, I am sure they were taught the actual definition of capitalism.

As for "Math and Social Justice," I'm guessing it's a statistics class. Kids might as well learn early that there's lies, damned lies, and statistics.

I could be wrong. I'm old and live in a backward state, but I doubt if even California would be teaching this as a foundational class..

California is in the process of a total collapse, financially and in education. It won't be long until the state is in complete dire straits. That's when we send in the National Guard to clean out the commie trash, send all the illegal aliens packing and take the state back.

They're driving all their industry out, they're pricing a home way out of reach of anyone besides the rich, and they're brain washing the kids the exact same way Hitler and the Nazis did in Third Reich Germany...

California DEAD LAST in education...

If not for the revenues from the likes of Facebook, Microsoft, Google, Intel etc...California would have collapsed decades ago.
Hollywood would be their only revenue source today.

Why must you guys continue to bash California on a daily basis? What is in it for you?

Toro:
This is Ethnic Studies (from Wiki)
Ethnic studies
Field of study

Description
Ethnic studies, in the United States, is the interdisciplinary study of difference—chiefly race, ethnicity, and nation, but also sexuality, gender, and other such markings—and power, as expressed by the state, by civil society, and by individuals. Wikipedia

All is well. Kids learn what all this stuff is for when they get to college at Berkeley and join Antifa. It's not the core history curriculum anywhere, not even in California.
