Bible criticism

I love it when these people who don't know a word of Hebrew or Greek (much less Hebrew poetry) butcher one of the the English versions and think they have done something.

Some bible thumpers on this board think the King James bible is the infallible word of God. I say it is not and I do not need to be a scholar of languages to criticise an English translation.

I am tired of reading all the bible thumping threads telling us the bible is the word of God, and we will burn in hell if we do not believe it. So here is a thread to dismantle the bible and prove it cannot be from God, and it has not been preserved unchanged.
I will be posting many links and doing some cut and paste jobs, because I am no bible expert, but I know a lot of work has been done on this by others.

The first point I would like to raise is the age of Noah and other so called prophets. The bible says Noah lived to be 950 years old, but I read somewhere that this is now believed to be a mistake in the translation of the numbers from an early bible, by a scribe that did not understand the numbering system.
I will research this and post links.

To be going on with here are a couple of links to critical pages.

Bible Babble - The Holy Bible and it's Errors, Contradictions, and so on.

What you are referring to in terms of long ages comes from Genesis. What is interesting though, in the same book, with the same author, after the flood men did not live past about 120 years old.

So yea, they meant the ages they wrote about.

The general gist is, men became so evil because they lives as long as they did, so God somehow changed the environment after the flood to reduce our life spans. For the record, scientists still don't know why we age.

Imagine what damage an evil prick like Hitler could do in 800 years, let alone less than 50.

And yes, Hitler is in hell. Deal with it.

From this chart you can see what happened to life spans after the flood. What happened? I believe the best theory is the flood totally changed the earth. From Genesis we know the earth was covered in a mist, and that is the top belief by science. This mist protected people from the radiation of the sun. Our cells simply keep reproducing themselves over and over. As flaws creep into the copies we this repeats over time and eventually we die from old age.
After the flood the mist was gone, and the sun could shine on the surface. That's why they had never seen a rainbow before.

Except for Enoch, who God whisked away, you see a dramatic shift of lifespans. People today can live as long as Joeseph did. Most of our Founding Fathers lived to their 70's and 80's. Seems we are at a plateau.

Of course Noah lived to 950. Prior the flood the earth was covered in clouds, which is stated in the Bible and supported by scientific environmental theories. It blocked the Suns radiation. Factor in the gene pool getting more and more corrupt with every copy made, it makes sense. Fits right into the ages of people written through the thousands of years the letters of the Bible were written.

So people five thousand years ago lived to nearly a thousand years old. Well how come there is no record of Egyptian pharaohs living to even one hundred years.
Egyptian pharaohs existed long after the flood, long after the Tower of Babel.

But, but , but. The bible account of the flood is surely bunk. Nobody believes it really happened do they?
In those times a local flood would have seemed to be the whole earth to people who thought it was flat.

I have a copy of the oldest book ever written, 'The epic of Gilgamesh' and it talks of a great flood too.

It could possibly be the flood that created the Black sea.

The Devil and Lucifer are both great but evil.
Lucifer is the Latin name. Diablos is the Greek name. Satan is the Hebrew name.

He dwells within many of the anti-Christ's that are posting in this thread.

He loves you.

You are his.

You will be his forever.

And in the few times "satan" is used in the Hebrew bible, it does not mean what Christians think it means. Ha Satan translates into "the adversary" or "the advocate". Read Job. HaSatan is playing a game with God.

Genesis 8.20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

If Noah made a burnt offering of every clean beast out of the survivors from the ark, the clean beasts would all have become extinct. Because there was only one pair of each.

A pair of unclean and seven pairs of clean animals.

A Jew is any person whose mother was a Jew or any person who has gone through the formal process of conversionto Judaism.

So Jew is not a race, thank you.

I can also show you many verses of Jews who disagree with that.
Jew is a race AND religion, dufus. Learn to read English.

We are not a race, we are a people. You can be a Jew and not practice Judaism.

how about understanding it in moris-code from a Chinese translation by a Russian interpreter during the 17th century ... especially from k-girl who would read anything she believes true to attribute it to Jesus, than just to herself.

I'm a real Jew who practices Judaism. I do have aquaintances who are born of a Jewish mother but go to church. As such, they have a claim to being Jews, but what they practice is Christianity. I know the idea that we are a perople and a religion, thightly woven is a hrd concept to some.

There is a big divide among true torah jews, and secular jews. To have a jewish mothers means nothing in truth, as if we go by the bible , many of you intermarried with Canaanites and also Maccabee made many Edomite's become Jews. Also some Assyrians also and many of the people in the Levant became jews without having a Jewish mother. As far as culture goes, you mainly took on the culture of the country you lived in. The jelly filled donuts are Polish, we eat those the day before Lent.

Are you aware that in RC, if your mother is RC, that makes the child RC as well, not so much today. A RC mother raised the child in the RC faith. That is why we get baptized very early and you Jewish boys get circumcised early. Most men in the US , even non jewish are also circumcised before leaving the hospital.

Some say a jew comes from Judea, and from the tribe of Judah. The other tribes are Israelis. Followers of El, who use to be the high Canaanite god.

Your comment is a trite, stale ad hom. It's akin to saying "How dare you voice an opinion about an airplane line without a thorough understanding of quantum physics!" Yes, you can understand the Bible without being well versed in Aramaic, in Greek, or Hebrew. It has been around for a really long time, and we have a lot of good information from a lot of people who do have expertise in those languages.

It's the RIGHT education you need. If I had a nickel for every self professed jackleg theologian I've met I would be rich, and it is those very same people who sow discord, hatred, and ignorance. And every one of them claims to have the inspiration of the Holy Spirit on their side.

So...unless you have the humility to call yourself a servant instead of a master, a student instead of a teacher, or a follower rather than a leader, you are not fit to claim to know scripture any more than anybody else, because you don't get it.

In other words, if you don't know the cultures or languages you should be listening instead of talking.

Your conviction of your own superiority is impressive....how does that jibe with all your blather about humility?

Project much? What I just told you is Biblical, one of the parts most people miss. Look it up.

By the way, I am an ordained minister myself, and I am astonished at the number of people I meet whose egos won't allow them to consider that an ordained minister just might be right about something. That is just plain naked pride, which is probably the greatest sin of all.

What follows will be an attempt to try and turn the argument back on me, or a claim that I "can't possibly" be an ordained minister. Occasionally I get the "who are you to say?" argument. Well, who are you to say otherwise?
