Bachmann's husband got $137,000 in Medicaid funds

That $137,000.00 was reimbursement for tending to the impoverished folks who got some help from the Bachmanns' clinic.

What were th e Bachmanns' options?

To NOT take the patients because they couldn't pay on their own? :cuckoo:

Take the patients and not get paid? :cuckoo:

Or, take the patients and accept some relatively small yearly settlement checks (amounting to only about $25,000.00 on a good year)?

What is so terrible (and OMG! "inconsistent") about denouncing socialism in government policy but taking some of that filthy lucre while it's still being spent, anyway?

I mean, holy chit. More than half of you "libruls" denounce the petrochemical industry, but you still drive cars, burn electricty (e.g. the internetz). Ya flaming Hypocrites. :D

Oh for pete's sake...you forgot to add that she could have explained why they were taking the money. She could have been honest about that. Why wasn't she?

I don't think they did anything wrong with taking the money, but they should just have been upfront about it. It is the BS that makes her look like a hypocrite.

And she's denied everything you guys have launched at her. Get real!

When you guys can finally expain why our Harvard graduate--community organizer--most intellectual President ever--and now professional Golfer--can't show up for a debt ceiling crisis--that is an oncoming train wreck in one month--maybe you''ll make a point--LOL

Until then--talk to the HAND>

Again, there’s nothing wrong with Bachmann's husband getting $137,000 in Medicaid funds, perfectly appropriate and legal. The problem is the hypocrisy.

Except it isn't hypocrisy.

If the fucking money is going to get spent anyway, then taking some of it amounts to taking a small rebate back on all the taxes you pay. NOT taking it would be economically foolish.

One CAN oppose excessive government spending on PRINCIPLE yet still accept some of the direct benefits of that spending until one is in a position to terminate the willingness of government to spend and spend and spend. If one is in a position to END it but declines to do so (while mouthing off against it), THEN and only then could one be fairly and accurately labeled a hypocrite.

When was she questioned in particular about it?

when did she fail to be honest?

You guys look mighty petty to be sniping over 5 1/2 years worth of government payments amounting to only $137K.

If the government does a stupid thing that means they are going to spend taxpayer dollars, why on Earth shouldn't we take some of our money back even if we are against the stupid government policy in the first place? If we don't take it, it's still gonna be spent.

When asked by anchor Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday" about the story's assertion that her husband's counseling clinic had also gotten federal and state funds, Bachmann replied that it was "one-time training money that came from the federal government. And it certainly didn't help our clinic."

I hope you understand that I am not against them using the money to help people. But I highly resent her going around the country putting down programs like this for other people. It's just plain old BS.

Well== the Federal Government has always had an insatiable appetite to expand and control--and this administration has made it very clear that is what their intent is.

Now when someone can tell me--how we're going to come up with 14.3 trillion dollars with another 64 trillion in unfunded liabilites--because babyboomers are now entering social security/medicare--then maybe I'll look at 137K a little more seriously--LOL

$1 billion dollars.jpg

1 billion dollars

$trillion dollars.jpg

1 trillion dollars--we only need 73 of these--LOL

which results in this

Here's what you get back after they're done.

After reading this thread from the beginning, I've begun to think that the right doesn't understand hypocrisy.

And those that do keep trying to derail the thread.

Principle? What principle is it that allows lying? Nice of you to give me your version of hypocrisy, but I guess we differ in one way...my principles don't allow lying.

You mean you're tired of FACTS? Imagine that coming from a liberal--LOL

$9-trillion-deficit.jpg

14.3 trillion in red ink now--with another 64 trillion in unfunded liabilities--due to the baby boomer generation entering social security/medicare.

Sorry that bothers you--I know you would prefer to say in the 137K crowd--LOL WELCOME to the on-coming TRAIN WRECK.

Politics aside, medicaid basically funds the bulk of mental health patients. Unless you are talking about outpatient treatment, the patient base that make up the mental health community tends to be impoverished.

It's hard to earn a living when you suffer from schizophrenia.

seems bachman has more trouble than stealing petty's music

While Rep. Michelle Bachmann, R-Minn., has forcefully denounced the Medicaid program for swelling the "welfare rolls," the mental health clinic run by her husband has been collecting annual Medicaid payments totaling over $137,000 for the treatment of patients since 2005, according to new figures obtained by NBC News.

blah blah blah

"She's giving hypocrisy a bad name," said Ron Pollock, executive director of Families USA, a consumer health care advocacy group, when asked about the Medicaid payments to Bachmann & Associates. "It's clear when it feathers her nest she's happy for Medicaid expenditures. But people that really need it — folks with disabilities and seniors — she's turning their backs on them."

It would be helpful to know what those 'forcefully denouncing' statements against Medicaid were? They should be included in context to make more sense of the op, otherwise, big deal? Find one clinic or doctor's office in the US who hasn't accepted Medicaid payments?

You are missing the piont...just like Weiner....

SHE LIED! SHE FUCKING LIED. Do you not get it. She said she didnt recieve any money. SHE FUCKING LIED.

From Fact Check.

She claimed government money received by her husband's counseling clinics did not benefit the business, because the funds paid for employee training. It's true the clinics received $24,041 for training, but the business received thousands more in government funds, including money for treating crime victims.

Bachmann falsely claimed that she and her husband "have never gotten a penny" from a family farm that received federal subsidies. But she reported income from the farm in 2006, 2008 and 2009 — the most recent year available — on her congressional financial disclosure statements.

there's nothing to get around. A dope like you making a dishonest claim doesn't make M. Bachmann a liar, you tool.

It is neither plain, simple or accurate. Everybody lies occasionally. Part of the human condition. But you tools have yet to identify a Bachmann lie.

Are you suggesting they turn away people using medicaid?[/QUOTE said:
As much as I dislike bachmann and think she's a complete WHACKO.:cuckoo::cuckoo:.....you make a good point. First, $137k in 6 years is very little. Next, the other option would be to, as you say, turn them away.

The official response from the Bachmann camp:

"Medicaid is a valuable form of insurance for many Americans and it would be discriminatory not to accept Medicaid as a form of payment," Bachmann spokeswoman Alice Stewart told CNN. "As a state-sponsored counseling service, Bachmann and Associates has a responsibility to provide Medicaid and medical assistance, regardless of a patients financial situation."

My question is, what does 'state sponsored' mean, exactly?

For the slow and stupid. As a business he has a chose to either turn people away or accept the insurance. If he turned people away you retards would be claiming he was a bastard for not providing care.

NOTHING he did is illegal, immoral or against the concept that we want to rein in medicare costs. You have nothing as usual.

Most mental health facilities get licensed and approved by the State.

This argument seems to be coming up again and again:

If these are the only two options, does this not imply that cuts to Medicaid funding (and subsequent decreases in Medicaid enrollment) will lead to more folks being turned away from clinics? Presumably the answer is yes. Which suggests someone ought to ask Bachmann about her support for cutting Medicaid and what the real-world implications will be for folks like those who need services at her husband's clinic.
