Australia Bans Guns, Crime Rate Increases | Gun Control Fail

Everyone notice how this small dicked psychotic loser won't try to refute the evidence from the Australian government that gun homicides have dropped dramatically since their gun control passed? He lost, I'm bored, conversation done.

When did you post a link? The wiki link is that the one your talking about? Little dick.

Australia's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime:

In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
Moreover, Australia and the United States -- where no gun-ban exists -- both experienced similar decreases in murder rates:

Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent.
During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent.
Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent.
Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent.
At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent.
Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women.

Think Australia is a great place to live because of their gun ban? Better think twice

Okay, let's start by debunking this nonsense. For the first couple of years after the ban, which was a partial ban, was passed, crime rates did increase. However, after that and moving forward, crime rates have decreased significantly, and murders by guns are about half what they used to be.

Sometimes, you should do your research before using bad propaganda to make your case. Now, if we want to compare Australia to the US, then we actually can discuss why a gun ban there might be more or less effective than in the US. For starters, based on the number of guns turned in, which was just over 640,000, and based on their population of 22 million, that equates to on gun for every 34 people. Now, let's look at similar statistics in the US. It is estimated that there are around 300 million guns in the US, and we have a population just over that number, so we have one gun for every person, not one gun for every 34 people. Try confiscating 300 million guns versus confiscating 640,000.

You see, it's important to make arguments that are not only true, but also make some sense.

You cited a right wing blogger from the Washington post, a right wing think tank and a website for the military... all of which are impartial I'm sure. So again, are you serious pinkie dick? Or do you want to re-think your line of lying bullshit?
All of which gave facts care to refute them or are you going to bitch about the source?
Shouldn't you use something other than wiki? something like National Center for Policy Analysis?

The e-mail says that "t has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms." Actually, it’s been 13 years since Australian gun law was originally changed. In 1996, the government banned some types of guns, instituted a buyback program and imposed stricter licensing and registration requirements. Gun ownership rates in Australia declined from 7 percent to 5 percent. Another law in 2002 tightened restrictions a bit more, restricting caliber, barrel length and capacity for sport shooting handguns.

Have murders increased since the gun law change, as claimed? Actually, Australian crime statistics show a marked decrease in homicides since the gun law change. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology, a government agency, the number of homicides in Australia did increase slightly in 1997 and peaked in 1999, but has since declined to the lowest number on record in 2007, the most recent year for which official figures are available.

Wow, that took me all of five seconds to google. There's literally a plethora of websites all with the same statistics that show Australia's gun control laws have significantly reduced gun related homicides. If you're going lie small balls, you should lie about something that's hard to uncover.

Simply saying "Australian law reform reduced gun fatalities," if all you know is that deaths dropped after 1996, would be post hoc ergo propter hoc, too.

In summary, this author’s claims are simplistic, fallacious and unsupported by historical or current evidence.

Snopes says the OP is 12 year old total BS, as usual with Pubcrappe.

It would be nice instead of claiming someone is wrong that you would actually read your source fully through before you make that claim. It will make you look less stupid.

The current U.S. homicide rate is the lowest in more than 40 year: 4 deaths per 100,000. It was 10 per 100,000 in the 70s when concealed carry was banned in most states

Can anyone tell me about the homicide rates in anti-gun countries like Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia or Mexico?

I know Mexico's is pretty high well at least during the time obama was allowing guns into the hands of Mexican drug lords

Also in Brazil?

Brazil: 21 homicides per 100,000
Mexico: 17 per 100,000

Big Derp is a fucking idiot and a scumbag for continuing to politicize this tragedy with lies and propaganda
