Three iconic gambling casinos will close within a week. Showboat, Revel and Trump Plaza will close with the loss of 8,000 jobs. What's going on? Is it about the economy or is the current generation down on gambling?

Plenty of casino action now closer to home for people in the tri-state area. Why waste gas and time driving to Atlantic City?

Casino gambling is an increasingly older and lower class activity. That is why Las Vegas has moved upscale with greater emphasis on entertainment and dining. Plus, it is not surrounded by a slum.

My guess is that there are just too many other options. You can't have three bars on every block when alcohol is on the way out in favor of weed.

No the stupid generation has found they can piss away their money on rigged internet sites as fast as they can in person.

Ceasars Entertainment is run by a hedge fun with no clue how to run a casino or resort. Their closing Showboat is a dumb move imo because they are profitable. I wouldn't call the Revel an icon, it was a disaster from day one, three years to failure is just humiliating. And Trump Plaza has been a toilet for years.

AC and Jersey itself doesn't know how to compete, they shoot themselves in the foot every chance they get

Agree on there being many more casinos in the northeast now....FOXWOODS and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, up here in Maine there is also Hollywood Slots and Casino and another casino in southern Maine being built....

BUT, I would guess that hurricane Sandy ruined the whole area along the coast of New Jersey....unembloyment along the coast is near 15% to 20%

So it's bad that businesses that essentially steal people's money with games of chance rigged in their favor are closing?

Maybe they should produce something of value instead of just enticing people to throw their money away. That way everyone will benefit.

AC needs to be a destination again

They can use their beachfront location to draw people in the summer but who wants to drive to AC in the winter when there are casinos much closer?

True, but Revel went with the entertainment model and failed as well. The Borgata is still doing booming business using the entertainment model, and to a lesser extent, the tropicana.

There are simply too many Casinos, and too many that are relics of the late 20th Century.

AC is like Detroit surrounding a couple casinos. The city is a fucking mess, and what's interesting is it has gotten worse since the casinos built up. The boardwalk is full of vagrants and feral cats and crime is rampant.

It's a bad experiment that has been poorly executed, with none of the promises made decades ago, coming to fruition. Trump should be ashamed as the disgusting presence he has there.

AC was a good idea but poorly executed. They should have zoned the entire city like Bologna Italy and razed most of it to the ground. It's a fucking toxic armpit of a city a step above Camden. You can't even get there easily, you have to drive and who would drive to AC when other, better casinos are now closer?

I only go there for the Governors Conference once a year. I skipped dinner with some bankers to play a SNG and finished as Bubble Boy. All the books say I should have folded AJs on the button against the tight big stack who shoved from CO, and they're right. I thought about it and put her on QQ or KK and thought and thought, thought about folding, but I liked the A too much called -- and adios
