An Emergency for the G.O.P.

‘Once again, congressional Republicans are facing a gut-check moment, forced to choose between supporting and defending the Constitution or Donald J. Trump. It’s not looking good.

House Democrats introduced a joint resolution of disapproval on Friday aimed at canceling President Trump’s bogus national emergency at the southern border.

[…]

Once the resolution clears the House, the Senate is required to hold its own vote within 18 days — meaning the majority leader, Mitch McConnell, cannot do his usual stonewalling. Even so, with Republicans in control there, and loath to irk the president, the resolution is widely expected to die. At that point, it will be up to the courts, where multiple suits have already been filed, to grapple with this out-of-control executive.

It is not too late to stop this legislative cop-out. Critical principles are at stake — Congress’s power of the purse, the separation of powers — that transcend any one declaration or leader. Members of both parties need to make clear that a presidential pique is not the same thing as a national emergency, that a president who fails to persuade Congress to support his priorities can’t then simply pursue them by fiat. Lawmakers who cannot rally themselves to this cause should stop pretending that they’re anything more than partisan automatons; they will have declared themselves members of a second-class branch of government.

As has often been noted, there is no border emergency, aside from Mr. Trump’s desperation to make good on a rabble-rousing campaign slogan.’

Well said, OKTexas.

Why the Democrats cursing the Border Wall is Phony.

Our welfare clause is General and we have a Commerce Clause. There is no common defense issue on our southern border; it is a refugee issue.

We don't have an immigration clause, we have a naturalization clause.

Only lousy right wing alleged capitalists lose money on border policy.

In the hearts of patriotic Americans, IDIOT. And we still outnumber the Democrats by our outrage of their certified cowardice, avarice, pantywaist lies, and the belief that everyone else is wrong except their lust for more votes than they deserve, because they're converting California from being the 5th largest world economy to the 7th largest economy in just 10 short years, and it's still spiraling downward, because their innovative middle class that made it strong are leaving due to the high taxes they raised against regular taxpayers to pull in people who don't know shit from a shingle. Idiot!.

Mike, I don't think we can fix wanton greed. The politicians in California are running off traditional Americans out of their state to the tune of over a million a year, while they welcome people from across the border to vote for the promises they make them, then try to squeeze citizens for all the money they can which somehow, miraculously makes the trip back to theirown greedy pockets. It's using the government for a regrettable get-rich-quick ponzi scheme. They're a one-party state now.

You're living in the past, doll. You've been downgraded to 7th because of legislative mismanagement and IDIOCY.

California is running smart people off due to:
high taxes,
overregulation,
higher costs,
it is the most employer unfriendly state
1/3 of nations welfare recipients live in california
California has the highest poverty rate of all 50 states

Yeah, I'm sure the 3 billion congress authorized the last two years was for other administrations. LMAO

It was for fence replacement not Trumpo’s wall. Why did Trumpo shut down the government - fail in negotiations with Congress and then throw this energency tantrum if his wall was being built. You make no sense whatsoever.

Is what I’m saying not true or is all you can do is repeat ‘fake news’ ‘ fake news’ like your cult leaders told you to do.
I don't have any cult leader. I have no idea if what you are saying is true and you don't either, but it's probably not, or it's a half truth. You have no way to confirm or deny it. But like most liberal fools you choose to believe it.

I say give him his "emergency", but remind the Republicans that global warming, healthcare and gun violence are emergencies, too.
