No one "gave away" land, let alone anything that could be defined as "Palestinian" land. That's not how states and sovereignty work. The British, who were given the mandate to administer the territory, until various governments developed independence, simply recognized that the Jewish people ALSO lived in the land and ALSO had a right to self-determination.

The British didn't have a mandate to take over anyone's land. This is why decolonization was an essential part of the post-war settlement. (Also, the Colonial powers were so weakened by the war, they couldn't hold on to their empires anyway.)

That is what colonization is: imposing a foreign culture on a local, indigenous population. You can only do that if you bring a foreign culture to an indigenous population. When you bring armies to do it, we usually call it invasion or conquest.
