you should vote yes!

they are cruel to those dogs and then discard them like trash when they are no longer useful!

Arguments for initiative
Arguments in favor of the initiative that have been made by its supporters include:

Thousands of dogs suffer inhumane conditions at Wonderland Greyhound Park and Raynham Park, Massachusetts' two racetracks, by being kept for up to 20 hours a day in small cages barely large enough for the animals to stand up or turn around in.
Hundreds of dogs suffer serious injuries while competing at the racetracks, including broken bones, head injuries, and paralysis.[2]

The dog racing industry has experienced a "catastrophic economic decline" in the past two decades, which has led to some racetracks seeking assistance from politicians, including direct subsidies, tax breaks, special trust funds, and expanded gambling rights.[3]
The Number of employees involved in operating the parks is not as large as the opponents claim and the bill will not take effect until 2010, which would provide additional time for the employees of the race tracks to seek employment elsewhere. [4]

Duh, vote yes, and get your friends, family, even your foes to vote YES!

I'd think it would perhaps be better to pass regulations regarding the dogs' treatment. Seems a bit overbroad a measure, particularly when it's going to take away someone's livelihood that they've had for 40 years.

Are they going to try to stop horse racing next? Not being glib, but, unfortunately, I've had the experience of dealing with some of these purported animal protection groups and they'd rather the animals were dead than working.

Does any one else see the tragic, socialist tendencies in the statement above?

How many stagecoaches would We, The People own if this kind of politics was practiced when Henry Ford made good on his entrepreneurial wet dream?

Geez... if your going out of business because your product isn't selling, let it go...

You didn't vote Ravi.

I'm on the fence on this one. This poll/thread may honestly influence my vote.

The track owners claim to have cleaned up their act and say the cruelty charges are false.

I don't know what to vote. I'm sure Angie has a strong opinion.:eusa_whistle:

I am against cruelty to animals and I am against tax payer's bailing out these types of businesses.

But Jillian makes a good point.

If we all stop eating cows, they will become extinct.

What are the pros and cons for you?

Shocking!

I think voting yes would REQUIRE one to go after horse racing as well. Agree with you there, focus on the treatment of the animal.

hey if MA won't pass a casino bill that will allow people to squander their money without brutalizing an animal, then people shouldn't be able to make a profit from brutalizing animals so that people can squander their money
