Well, the responses to your reasonable question have been what we might have suspected. Trump's picks aren't about competence, direct experience and managerial skillset. They're about chaos, rage and ideology. Exactly the opposite of what the positions are about. He's clearly making a statement here with top level positions.

Obviously there's no way to know what he's thinking or what he's being "advised". But I have to wonder what the end game is here. I had a conversation shortly after the election with a neighbor who voted for trump. He was encouraged by Baby Donald naming Wiles chief of staff because he thought she'd reign him in. When will they learn there is no reigning him in? They spent months thinking he'd be "more presidential" once he assumed the office before trump 1.0. Then within weeks he had Sean Spicer lie about the inauguration, had to fire Mike Flynn (who never should have been the NSA in the first place), and then fired Comey to "take pressure off the Russia thing."
If anything he's more erratic now than before.
