Let's try freedom of speech and freedom to protest and freedom of the press.
In the US a person has the right to say whatever they want. There are, of course, limitations to this. Treason, libel and the like. People also have the right to protest. This is, of course, within legal means. Like, not breaking things, or killing people or hurting people etc.
But Trump keeps doing things that go against this.
Try Hesgeth changing the policy on reporting military things. He wants to control what they say.
"Defense Secretary
Pete Hegseth demanded that reporters agree by 5 p.m. Tuesday to a new policy, under which they would need to pledge to not obtain or use any unauthorized material, even if the information is unclassified — or hand over their press badges in the next 24 hours."
Is it surprising? No. Why? Because Trump's done it before.
The White House has put forward a new media policy that sharply curtails access to Donald Trump by the news agencies that serve media outlets around the world.
apnews.com
"The White House is starting a new media policy that restricts wire services’ access to the president"
"The AP’s lawsuit claimed that its First Amendment rights were violated by the White House blocking its reporters and photographers from covering Trump. "
Then we have Trump attacking antifa.
DESIGNATING ANTIFA AS A DOMESTIC TERRORIST ORGANIZATION: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Order to designate Antifa as a domestic terrorist
www.whitehouse.gov
"Fact Sheet: President Donald J. Trump Designates Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization"
Then you have the "No Kings" protests.
Administration officials and Republican allies baselessly label nationwide protests ‘Hate America’ rallies as president looks for legal justification to crush dissent
www.independent.co.uk
"MAGA-world already blaming ‘Antifa’ boogeyman for upcoming No Kings protests"
Oh, I'm protesting, and this protest is "antifa" and therefore I have legitimate reason to stop the protests. He didn't do it. Not yet. We'll see if he does. He seems to be taking little steps each time, making something a new normal, then adding another new normal, until he feels he's in a position to do something about it.
Part of that is reposting twitter skits that show him as a pilot dumping shit on the protesters.
Then you have Trump revoking visas from people who say things he doesn't like. A visa might be a privilege, HOWEVER, unless you BREAK THE LAW, you actually have certain rights.
You keep chipping away and all of a sudden you can do a lot more. First it's people on visas, then it's who? Antifa? Anyone who is declared as antifa?
The Founding Fathers were worried the govt could declare who was religiously scrupulous and prevent them from "bearing arms". Trump may be able to declare people "antifa" and prevent them from doing this that or the other.
US Democracy is fragile. Because it's a two party system, and those two parties control EVERYTHING. The Greens are the third party in the US and have almost not representatives (and we're talking dog catchers here).
He's spent ages attacking US democracy. He did it the first time, he's doing it again. The 6th January was supremely bad. Saying that the Dems are cheating all the time seems to be designed to allow him any reason to do whatever he wants.
