Tariffs protect industries and businesses, especially vital industries, from unfair foreign competition. Tariffs prevent huge sums of income from leaving the U.S. America became the industrial giant of the world behind the protective walls of sky-high tariffs for decades.

No, tariffs did not cause or contribute to the Great Depression--that's an old Democrat myth that was floated by FDR and his crowd to attack Republican trade policy, and it's a myth that some Libertarians misguidedly, mistakenly repeat.

Numerous nations around the world have developed their economies by using high tariffs. Think about this: If tariffs are so bad for consumers and the economy, why do so many other nations impose tariffs, including Canada, Mexico, China, Brazil, Argentina, the European Union, Japan, India, South Korea, and Taiwan?

Free Trade agreements are why there are so many economic dead zones in the US that used not to be. Now it has always seemed to me that the democrats purposefully went after lowly manufacturing jobs in red states to bolster bottom lines in blue states as a political flex, but regardless, the tariffs could be a good thing. It will take a generation to find out. I am cautiously optimistic for the next generation as I will be retired before we really know for certain.

We should bring vital jobs back home. So Trump should have picked those industries and strategically went after those. What he's doing makes no sense and is pissing the rest of the world off. NOT good for business. Not the way he's doing it. Imagine Kamala doing this.

Don't blame Democrats. Back in the 2000's when GW Bush sent millions of manufacturing jobs overseas, they did it on purpose because those were high paying union jobs. If you don't remember the 2000's, Republicans spent that decade attacking union workers. As we were sending their jobs overseas. Today Republicans pretend they want to bring back those jobs for those "deplorables". They won't pay what they once paid. And who's going to work those jobs? We're at zero unemployment right now. Maybe all those government people Elon fired? Maybe 14 year olds? This month Florida is voting to allow 14 year olds to work 10pm to 6am on school nights. Nice.

The only problem in America is the rich and corporations starting with Reagan went to class warfare with labor. Union membership went from 35% to 5%. In that same time, wages stopped growing. But CEO pay skyrocketed.

In the 2000's I used to SCREAM why aren't those jobs going to red states??? Instead they bipassed red states and went to Mexico. I don't mind union jobs in the north moving south for cheaper labor. I like taking advantage of cheap goober wages in the south.

We should pick what industries we want to bring back home and not fuck with the rest. Period. Trump's not doing a good job of this. I'm not surprised.
