Poor Americans just need to start making better decisions. It is easier to pull oneself out of poverty than to live in poverty long term. One just needs motivation and good decision making.

Well consider this. A lot of young people who want to go to college and make something of themselves, are struggling. Not just a lot. Too many to ignore. Something isn't right. Now that Trump is President I notice you aren't arguing for the poor anymore. Now you are telling them it's their fault. Remember it's an election year. Even if your boy Trump isn't on the ticket.

Last year, when inflation went up. Did you tell poor people they just need to start making better decisions? No you did not. You blamed Biden for the cost of living. Trump added at least $1000 to everyone's bills with his tariffs. So I feel you are being a bit of a hypocrite here.

Also consider this. People doing all the right things, aren't having kids. Can't afford them, don't want them. I think this is a great thing but apparently Trump does not. He wants Americans to have more Americans kids. He's even talking about giving them money to produce. The fact is, young people don't want to have kids. Doesn't seem worth the costs. And you aren't going to convince them with "you'll be sorry someday". I know my parents tried that on me. I'm mid 50's still not the least bit sorry.

The increase in white deaths is entirely concentrated among people with a high school degree or less, a good proxy for poverty. Meanwhile, mortality rates have continued to decline among whites with any college attendance.

What's behind the increase in poor white deaths? Well, they are dying not of disease, but of suicide, chronic alcohol abuse, and especially drug overdoses.

These days, those in the top 1 percent capture virtually all economic growth.

White people weren't tricked into their lousy welfare state; it was what they wanted. Better to keep blacks at the very bottom of the social castes than risk joining them in last place, even if that would be a better absolute position.

But we can see today that there are concrete and unintended side effects to this preference. Whether poor whites are individually racist or not, racism is literally killing them.

At this rate, in another decade or so poor whites will be about even with blacks on mortality, and might even catch them in imprisonment. Last place is coming up to meet them, whether they like it or not.

Not married. Never been married. Who was I just talking to the other day who said the divorce set him back. I asked him "did your wife work?" and he said yes. So then why don't they have enough for the both of them? Isn't that weird? A couple can have $1 million dollars and live off it but if they get a divorce and each take $500K, suddenly each of them can't live off of it. Probably because they each have to buy their own home where before they were both living in the same home.

In New York City we know it's at least $10,000 a person in savings every year to live with someone. Much less in places that aren't as expensive as NYC.
