Controlling the feesIn what way?
The more he squeezes Panama financially/economically - the easier for China.Trump's lighting them up for overcharging usage fees from what has been said.
I'd bet He's going to get them lowered by threatening to withhold US government welfare monies to Panama.
I think it is going to happen, just as President Trump said.
Time and time again, America's military has enlightened enemies about how good peace on earth is and how war isn't. They've convinced serious enemies to follow the footsteps to peace in this world. God bless the American military peacekeepers as they do their duties. I love them and all they do to treat many nations to live side by side in peace. Oh, and I was a dedicated third grade Army brat when Dad's Service took us to Fort Richardson near Anchorage Alaska. It was so beautiful to see the scenery when Dad drove us around on his times off. And the fresh air up there was wonderful.Trump was voted in by Americans and even supported by many fiscally minded citizens around the globe because he represented more fiscal restraint/cost cutting a la DOGE, he was going to prevent Americas debt from going off of the cliff, return a global presence of peace through strength to defend key allies such as Taiwan and Japan, defend your border (for which Canada also pays a price as we have fentanyl coming into our country from these same cartels I'm sure) and confronting China so that America remains the Super Power of the world, millions of lives potentially saved.
Now, Mexico I can understand being called out, even the Canal and Greenland as these are key tenets of U.S security. Canada though is receiving more than our fair share of ink due to Trump. Media cares this much about Canada all of a sudden but not 100s of thousands being poisoned by your southern border? Come on maaaan.
If his actions before he takes office is any indication, he has said very little about China and tariffs, but raises the issue with Canada and Mexico and others? Didn't he suggest a 60% tariff on China? They are sending over the precursors to the poisons that have killed countless people in Canada too, that act is responsible for something like 100,000 U.S deaths a year!
Let's hope this isn't a pattern he will maintain after he takes office. Please DJT, stick to your promises. China needs to be confronted about their human right abuses and cheating on trade. All nations can do better but China is by the greatest threat to America and the biggest trade violator.
We'd all like to see peace in the world and we'd all love to see China become a true capitalist nations that supports human rights. This should be where his focus lies, no? To call them out and get them to change and if they do not, than he uses tariffs as a means to equalize the trade abuses.
DJT keep your promises. Canada isn't perfect and we could use some demands to adhere to human rights but we are your ally, for all of our warts.
We gave up control. It’s not without its limitsHow dumb are you??
That treaty in 1977 - beheld the terms of 1999. Aka Panama is a sovereign State and as such only Panama controls the canal.
The Panama Canal Treaties of 1977 specified that the U.S. transfer canal operations to Panama and terminate its military presence by December 31, 1999. Moreover, the Canal Treaties require that the locks be turned over to Panamanian authorities free of all debts and encumbrances.
The Panama Canal treaties specify that by December 31, 1999, all U.S.
military forces will be withdrawn from Panama and that all U.S.
military real and nonremovable property will be transferred without
charge to Panama. Department of State and DOD officials have stated
that the United States would fully implement all provisions of the
treaties. However, treaty implementation documents do not preclude
the United States from negotiating an agreement with Panama for the
permanent stationing of U.S. military forces in Panama after 1999.
Officials from both Departments said that if such an agreement is not
negotiated with Panama, all U.S. forces will be withdrawn as
specified by the treaties.
From 2005
The explosion of U.S. military interest and funding for Plan Colombia, occurring in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal from military bases in Panama in December 1999, has given rise to a proliferation of new U.S. bases and military access agreements in the region. The growth of these new, smaller bases constitutes a decentralization of the U.S. military presence in the region and has been Washington’s response to a reluctance by regional leaders to host large U.S. military bases or complexes.
What the U.S. Southern Command (SouthCom) calls the “theater architecture” is a complex web of U.S. military facilities and functions in the region. This interlocking structure has been in transition. U.S. military facilities represent tangible commitments to underlying policy priorities, such as ensuring access to strategic resources, especially oil, and to a supply-side drug war that holds foreigners responsible for U.S. citizens’ addiction to illegal drugs.
Now why don't you show me a treaty/agreement - that supposedly shows that after 1999 - the USA would have any rights, in regards to neutrality of Panama and thus towards the neutrality of the canal and or stationing US military in Panama.
BTW - NSA Panama City is NOT located in Panama.
China is already doing itThe more he squeezes Panama financially/economically - the easier for China.
Only shows/proves once again - how inept and dumb Trump is.
But anyway - Trump doesn't speak (designed his rhetoric garbage) to the general American public - but only in view of his MAGA sheep.
Who FACTUALLY are a minority in the USA.
Conditions, that aren’t being met. That’s defaultWe gave up control. It’s not without its limits
It requires neutrality. What part of that don’t you get?
Show them.Conditions, that aren’t being met.
SureShow them.
cnmChina is operating it
Dembot don’t care, they are puppets of the CCPTransit fees are outrageously expensive. A Panamax ship can be $500K and a New Panamax can be over a million. The waits can be long. Fees over $3 million have been charged for priority transits.
With China in control of the ports at each end, they can shut down the whole thing.

In June 2016, Panama inaugurated the expansion of its Canal. In June 2017, the Panamanian government decided to establish diplomatic relations with China (Central America has been a traditional ally of Taiwan), thus giving rise to the flow of new Chinese investments in a Canal revitalized with the expansion

China does not currently control the ports at each end. Why don't you run about screaming and waving your arms in the air? With China in control of the ports at each end, they can shut down the whole thing.
