Do they fear a fight with America? Do they really intend to try to capture Taiwan? It seems unlikely they would planning to attack the US Navy they would remember what happened to Japan when they did that. So why are they doing this planning against American carriers?

The CCP has huge internal problems

Floods, food and energy shortages

China really has no choice but to try and develop a more robust domestic market. They are being priced out of the cheap labor game, and without a domestic market they cannot grow a sustainable middle class.

What's interesting is the level of detail in this mock aircraft carrier.

If the Chinese were planning on hitting it with any type of missile or otherwise sophisticated weapon, there would be no point in that level of detail. This mock up also doesn't emit the same type of electronic noise as a real carrier, so it doesn't serve any purpose for target acquisition practice for sophisticated weapons.

It would serve as practice for an assault by Chinese marines or other foot soldiers.

Maybe they're planning USS Cole type of assault against an American carrier - i.e. approaching in simple unsophisticated boats that can not be detected using the types of equipment that U.S. ships use - they rely on electronic emissions or magnetics.

Their plan may be to hold a US carrier & it's crew hostage to get concessions so they can take Taiwan.
