and just looking at the gabby giffords shooting....2 concealed carriers on the scene of the shooting, neither one of them fired a shot because the guy was already under control.....

And again, you lie......of the 32,000 gun deaths only 8,454 were gun murders, the rest were suicides....and there are 1.6 million defensive uses of guns on average each year

8,454 gun murders (mainly by inner city gang and drug dealers) vs. 1.6 million times a year normal citizens use guns to stop or prevent violent criminal attack or save lives.....

throw in accidents...and you still can't match that number and sorry, I don't trust your gun accident number....I think it is 17,000 a year........even that is smaller than 1.6 million......

And with more people owning and carrying guns, the gun murder rate according to the FBI table 8 is going down, not up, and the gun accident rate is going down not up....

And with over 11.1 million people actually carrying guns for self defense, the gun murder rate is going down, not up, dittos the gun accident rate...which shows you anti gunners have no leg to stand on....you have no idea what you are talking about.....

In a letter to the editor in the New England Journal of Medicine, "The students of Dr. Mark Ferris's Mathematical Statistics 460" class ask, "In how many of the homicides was the victim killed with a gun that was kept in the house rather than a gun that was brought to the house by the perpetrator?" The question is a relevant one since, as the letter also notes, the study's authors had stated in part based on their findings that "people should be strongly discouraged from keeping guns in their homes [p. 1090]." In other words, advising people against keeping a gun in the home doesn't make sense unless it causes an increase in homicide risk.

Kellermann's first response to the students was incorrect: "Ninety-three percent of the homicides involving firearms occurred in homes where a gun was kept, according to the proxy respondents." In afollow-up letter (four years later) Kellermann acknowledges his error, but still fails to directly answer the question.

Kellermann's own data suggests that for all gun homicides of matched cases no more than 34% were murdered by a gun from the victim's home. (GunCite's analysis of Kellermann's data.) A subsequent study, again by Kellermann, of fatal and non-fatal gunshot woundings, showed that only 14.2% of the shootings involving a gun whose origins were known, involved a gun kept in the home where the shooting occurred. We have only about 16,000 murders a year (11,000 of them with guns.) We have 89,000 reported cases of rape. So you are go have us beleive that for every successful murder and rape, there are 16 that are unsuccessful because someone brandished a gun, all without shooting the offender except for a handful of times?

Actually, we only have between 8-9,000 gun murders a year...according to FBI table 8.......and those have been coming down from just over 9,000 in 2009 to 8,454 in 2013.....as more Americans own and carry guns.....

No...I am saying that if you want to prevent a rape, studies on the subject show that guns are the safest, and best way to do it...and since women have to this point had the lowest gun ownership rate, it is no surprise that more rapes aren't stopped with guns....but now, more women are buying and carrying guns....so that should change too.....
