Why are Minorities Overrepresented in TANF Welfare?

The reason blacks have realized a worse social situation since the end of Jim Crow is because they have been encouraged to reject the successful model of Western culture. .

You don't seem to understand American history very well.

And you have GOT to find something - anything - else to talk about than "culture" and "multiculturalism." Your every fucking post is a variation on the exact same thing over and over. Everyone understands that you think you have found some great insight. Time to move the needle on the fucking record already.

He can start a topic on any subject he wants. Don't like it? Don't bother reading it.

Unkotare knows I cut him off. Although he certainly helps with bumping my threads.

Why are Minorities Overrepresented in Welfare Statistics? How do you explain the numbers below?

Total number of Americans on welfare 12,800,000
Total number of Americans on food stamps 46,700,000
Total number of Americans on unemployment insurance 5,600,000
Percent of the US population on welfare 4.1 %
Total government spending on welfare annually (not including food stamps or unemployment) $131.9 billion
Welfare Demographics

Percent of recipients who are white 38.8 % ............... (Whites = 70% of the total U.S. population)
Percent of recipients who are black 39.8 % ............... (Blacks = 13% of the total U.S. population
Percent of recipients who are Hispanic 15.7 % .......... (Hispanics = 16 % of the total U.S. population)
Percent of recipients who are Asian 2.4 % ................ (Asians = 5% of the total U.S. population)
Percent of recipients who are Other 3.3 %

Welfare Statistics | Statistic Brain

Long story short, blacks in America have either been (1) slaves or the (2) victims of humiliating, oppressive laws for about 310 of the past 360 years on this continent (86%) and to suggest this wouldn't have some sort of a devastating, long-term impact on the success of the black community - which it sounds like you're doing - would suggest to me that you are somewhat of an ignorant person/moron. Sorry to be so blunt.

.

Yeah, lets call them victims, that'll really improve their situation!

If that were true they would be doing better today than at any other time in their history. However, 72% of blacks are born into a single parent household, 53% of blacks drop out of high school, and black unemployment has never been higher. If our country has become more tolerant and less racist, then how do you explain these numbers that are 500% worse today than under Jim Crow? How much of this trend do you credit to slavery and Jim Crow when in fact these numbers were relatively much smaller under Jim Crow?

Next patronizing and paternalistic excuse please!

Excuse?

First of all, if you’re going to attempt to use statistics, you need to be more specific. Are the numbers 500% worse than in the 1950’s, or 1910’s, or 1850’s? The 1750’s? An average of all the years? And what numbers are 500% worse? Are you speaking of unemployment, single parent families, or all of the statistics sort of rolled into one?

How am I supposed to effectively answer your question with so many gaps in the information you provided?

Worse since the end of Jim Crow, in every category! If racism is the cause then why does this trend continue to get worse as we get more tolerant and less racist? The answer is culture, dependency, victim mentality, and liberal policies directed at African Americans. Slavery and Jim Crow cannot be an excuse for todays blacks! They have declined in all categories since the 1950's/60's!

You need to be more specific.

Let’s use our brains for a little bit here. There have been many changes to American society since the 1950’s and I think the negative ones will tend to impact the most vulnerable groups the hardest. Why do I call the blacks the “most vulnerable”? Because whites have owned more businesses, made more money, and have been (on average) more educated than blacks from virtually day one of this country (obviously with a lot of this being driven by the fact blacks were slaves). When manufacturing and low-skilled jobs began disappearing throughout the past 50 years or so - a well documented and researched shift - which group do you think it would impact the most?

Also, what are your thoughts? Why do you believe that black people are worse off today?

My aim is not to make excuses for black people; everyone is ultimately responsible for themselves and their own destiny. What I am doing is explaining why I think blacks - on average - suffer more from poverty in 2014 than white folks. 200+ years of slavery will tend to fuck up things quite a bit.

Not getting enough attention, precious? Gotta try and answer other people's posts for them? Don't let your other boyfriends find out you're after Publius now.

I get plenty of attention sparky. I can also respond to any post I wish just as you can and do.

Please keep your homosexual thoughts to yourself.

Using your same methodology I should be a millionaire with my family having been here since the early 1700's. As it turns out I am the first generation to be born into electricity (1978). That aside, blacks are getting worse off because they are having more children out of wedlock, they are dropping out of high school, and they have higher amounts of unemployment than they have ever had after the Great depression. This trend has continued to rise in both good times and in bad. This is not because they are not capable. It's because they have developed a counterculture on an unproven model so as to counter western cultural aspects of which they deemed as the cause of their plight.

It is no coincidence that this trend happened at the behest of 50's and 60's radicalization. The Black Nationalist/Power movements have been adopted as black hero's more so than moderates such as MLK. The Marxist Leninist Black Panthers, the anti Western Malcolm X, The Socialist converted to Communist WEB DuBoise, and the radically Marxist turned Student non-Violent Coordinating Committee, are a few of many examples of those held in higher regard among the black community than the black moderates like Washington and King. As a result they have done everything in their power to be "anti-western." Black names, sagging, gangster rap, unashamed welfare culture, pride in poverty, glorification of drugs/violence, and Ebonics to name a few. I went to an all black school where I also noticed that blacks who did well were accused of "acting white" and blacks who spoke well were accused of "talking white." Among the black youth, being compared to whites is a mark of shame. This culture is largely what is keeping blacks from progressing.

Affirmative Action hasn't helped either. If MIT had a quota to fill and there are no blacks to fill it to the MIT standard, then sending an unqualified black to MIT ensures failure or low grades as opposed to doing perfectly well at a less prestigious University.

Minimum wage laws have also killed the black community. At one time in our history the best weapon a African American had to compete for a job was the ability to work for less, and thereby, get a job he was less qualified for than the white applicant, while gaining in work experience that will make him more competitive. Minimum wage did away with much of this. this is evident especially in a recession where there are many overqualified workers out of a job. How do you compete against such qualifications?

Education is yet another problem. A black single mother doesn't have the time to help her child with his/her studies. She doesn't have time to go to the PTA meetings. She doesn't even have time to complain about the horrible teachers being relocated into the ghetto's. And yet, she made the choice to have sex and birth a child she could not afford or educate? Why? Indeed, 52% of black students do not graduate high school in 4 years.

Drugs is also a problem. Among black youths, drugs are a right of passage. They brag about both selling and using it. This lands them in jail and also creates violence. Not to mention is makes them un-hirable.

Another trend that I noticed when I went to an all black school was that despite 98% of students being on free or reduced lunch, they all had nicer cloths/shoes than I did. Many of them wore jewelry. Adult blacks buy SUV's with tricked out rims and sound systems and statistics show that blacks spend more money on their vehicles than they do housing! This is another disturbing trend brought about by hip hop culture whereas everyone believes they need a status symbol as to attract the opposite sex with their faux affluence.

By far the worst impact on the black community has been welfare entitlements. Currently there are more blacks on welfare than any other demographic. This not only keeps them dependent, but it rewards them for not succeeding. So as long as they do not succeed they get free housing, electric, transportation, cell phones, food, WIC, and a whole host of tax "rebates" among others. Now they don't want to be on welfare, but the mentality that they've developed has incorporated welfare in the daily lives of black people. Worse, they are not ashamed of their welfare mentality and if you go to a social services office at a black majority location in blue jeans and a t-shirt, you will quickly find out that those who are under the age of 30 are wearing about $500 worth of cloths/shoes/jewelry on them. In the parking lot you will see a number of flashy vehicles. The single women there also do not disclose the father of their children because the state pays more.

I could go on forever, but slavery and Jim Crow did not create the current situation that black America finds itself in. So as long as they have children they cannot afford, so as they reject western values, and so as long as they continue to seek immediate gratification, they will continue the downward trend. Blacks look toward the state as their savior, they are more of a collectivist culture, and if you're going to blame anything for their failures it must be their sense of victimhood, a regressive culture, and programs designed to help them.

Because slavery and Jim Crow prevented blacks from moving forward at the same pace as whites. So its no surprise that the enslaved populace is not doing as well as the slave masters.

What I am surprised about is the fact that the black family is worse today than it has ever been in it's history. If Slavery and Jim Crow is the cause then why has it gotten worse as we have become a more tolerant and less racist society? No, we need to stop making excuses and take people out of the false victim category! It seems that poor Asians and poor Africans come to this country out of poverty and leave the black median income well behind them in the first generation. I see not what African Americans can't do the same! there are two videos above. They both fly in the face of your excuses for black poverty.

I thought you were asking a real question then I read the next sentence where you declare any answer to be an excuse. Because white people know better about blacks. Or whites have better answers...either way it fits into the very definition of racism.

You mean a population that has never been enslaved came to this country and did better than the people who were enslaved? Wow...thats....predictable....

Are you shocked by this? You seem shocked a lot...

Why is it that less racism = regression? This does not make sense. But it is perfectly attributable to the victimhood culture in the black community.

Africa was mostly a set of colonies until the 1960's -1980s whereas they seperatly gained their independence. Koreans were forced to work for the Japanese from 1910-1945. Japan was nuked and firebombed. India was a colony well after the end of slavery in the US. Vietnam was a colony of the French and then forced to work for the Japanese. Yet, their poor children can come here and out perform ever other demographic! Why? They didn't make excuses, they raised their children well, and they didn't develop a culture of victimhood!

Less racism? You mean less slavery and less lynching...less overt racism yes. But less racism I dont see how you gauge or measure that so I have to call shenanigans on that one.

Yes, even Romans were enslaved but theres a difference between that slavery and the chattel slavery that occurred in America. Once you know the difference, you'll know the difference

By any standard you can come up with we are less racist and more tolerant today than at any other point in our history. Therefore, blacks should be advancing, not regressing. I'll put my knowledge of slavery in the US against yours any day of the week.

Blacks are advancing just not as fast as the people who enslaved them. I still dont understand why this is so perplexing to you

Having a 73% out of wedlock birth rate is not advancement. Having a 53% failure to graduate in 4 years rate despite having more money thrown at your schools than any other schools in the country is not advancement. Having the single largest demographic on welfare for the first time in the history of welfare is not advancement. Sagging is not advancement. Ebonics is not advancement. Rap culture is not advancement. Fighting over $200 shoes is not advancement. These are regressionary traits. Blacks are regressing, not advancing.

No those things arent advancements. Do you know what advancement means? Because you chose a bunch of things that dont fit the definition of advancing.

There are more blacks in the work force than ever before, in positions of power than ever before, graduating college more than ever before etc...

Those are advancements.

Among a growing population, if you have more of something then it is only as good as compared to the increase in population. 1 worker out of 100 is 1% employment. 10 workers out of 1000 is 1% employment. 500 workers out of 100,000 is 0.5% employment. By your calculation having 500 workers out of 100,000 is an improvement over having 100 workers out of 100. No No No! And just because a black population elects a black person to power because they make up the largest demographic in the district does not = advancement.

^^ Thats TOTALLY not what I said at all.

Intelligent people correct and clarify as opposed to just simply saying in their best Valley girl accent "That's, like, TOTALY not what I said at all."
