What in the hell is the purpose of a national holiday if people continue to go to school and work on that day?

I mean really, what other national holiday to children go to school on?

Why is it that people go to school and go to work on Veterans Day, but not Presidents Day, for example?

It's BS! It's complete disrespect, and I suspect it is all due to Leftists who run academia and such because they despise our Veterans.

Here in Apache County, Arizona, the schools were closed. A lot of the kids served the veterans lunch after the parade in Saint Johns, where I spent the day.

In states like Ohio, they were open.

WTH?

Will schools be open on Veterans Day?

Columbus City Schools will be open on Nov. 11. Parents should check with their local school district, as some may be closed on Veterans Day.

Personally, I think the only people who should get a paid day off are veterans.

There are too many holidays. We're behind enough in our work.

Ohio is a red state and has had republican governors for what, 16 years in a row.

But you blame "leftists" for not having respect for Veterans and they supposedly kept the schools open?

Academia is an entirely different animal.

All of it is deep blue, especially in major cities, all of which are deep blue, even in the Reddest of states.

All the major cities are run by loons.

Amazing. The GOP takes credit for everything that can remotely bee deemed a success but says it's powerless if anything is ever deemed a failure.

A lot of countries have more public holidays than the US. If you're saying that the US and other countries have too many holidays, then that is something else.

The Ohio governor isn't exactly conservative. Ohio is a wimpy state.

Easter was demoted at my workplace. It was replaced with the holiday celebrating the philandering, rabble rousing communist.

Gotta get the lefties 100% out of the field of education.

Why should children not go to school on Veterans day? Should they observe the illegal invasions of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Serbia, Cuba, Irak, Iran, Libya, Syria, virtually all of Latin America, etc? VE Day? OK. VJ Day? OK. But Veterans Day? F*ing bull shit. :auiqs.jpg:

Banks.....Closed.
Post Office....Closed.

Schools, have to provide 180 days, and IF a school is closed, then it just extends the working calendar ONE more day into June.
Exceptions...... of Course.
what is the minimum number of days a school in every state needs to hold class?

There is no nationwide standard for the minimum number of school days in a year in the U.S. — each state sets its own requirement. Education Week+2National Council on Teacher Quality+2

Here are some key take-aways:

  • Most states (28 out of the 37 that specify a minimum number of days) set the minimum at 180 days. Education Week+2EducoHire+2
  • The lowest minimum requirement for days is in Colorado: 160 days. Pew Research Center+1
  • The highest minimum is in Kansas: 186 days. Pew Research Center+1
  • Some states don’t just use days — they require a minimum number of hours or minutes of instruction per year, or provide districts the choice of meeting a days-minimum or a hours-minimum. ECS+1
If you tell me a specific state, I can check the exact current minimum number of days (and any hour-based requirement) for that state.
