Whose fault is it exactly that Americans elect stupid politicians?

I understand that ordinary people are the easiest targets to blame, much easier than a dictatorship which is the international bankers, but can someone explain to me how exactly American voters are stupid?

Vast majority here and in general say that the problem in America is that people elect stupid politicians. Vast majority thinks that vast majority of voters are stupid and ignorant, only they blame each other. My question is who is exactly to blame in a democracy where you can only vote FOR politicians, HOW SHOULD PEOPLE KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR if they are stupid for voting for stupid politicians? Are they guilty for not voting for one of many independent parties? There are SO MANY political experts who are also candidates against the establishment to choose from, how are the people responsible for not knowing which candidates to pick?

Combination of things:

1. We're a culture in decay, we're prone to falling for "celebrities" and cults of personality, and one way that manifests is that we're easily swayed by politicians who simply say the right things
2. We've become a more and more divided society, and each end is more and more willing to put up with the lies of their "side", as long as their "side" wins
3. We have a political electoral system that is almost completely distorted by money, which clearly influences motivations and behaviors of people who are "running" things
4. We refuse to hold our "leaders" accountable with obvious controls like term limits and a Balanced Budget Amendment. They are then able to buy influence via legislation to stay in power
5. Another manifestation of a culture in decay is that, by and large, far more people are aware of, say, the cost of Kim Kardashian's dress than of our debt-to-GDP ratio
6. Our partisan ideologues refuse to look in the mirror and clean their own house, they'd much rather point the finger at the "other side", so virtually no improvements are made

The people who pay campaign fees so they get elected.
You can't blame the voters, they're mostly too stupid to realise they're simply responding to adverts, very much as Pavlov's dogs responded to a bell.
The slick advertising guys simply have to ring the right bells and the interest group's paid for idiot wins the election.
