Who Here Has Had Enough of the Two Party System?

Is it time to ditch the two party system?

  • Yes. The two-party pissing match is destroying the country.

  • No. The two party system is good for America.

  • It's different when my side does it!

Results are only viewable after voting.
America has many way more than two political parties:

Its just that they are too small to get any political power.
Try crossing the border to Switzerland and find yourself in jail and deported if you don't have legitimate papers. Good old Uncle Sam supports more illegal immigrants than the total Swiss population. If you want to use Switzerland as a political example you are free to do so but it's a stupid endeavor. In other words vote for the party that best represents your real values and stop making childish meaningless comparisons to tiny countries to try to justify your ignorance and apparent political loyalty.

Well, that's the question I'm asking here. Would you like to change it?

I maintain that had the people who held their nose and voted for Hillary because they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Trump, and the people who had held their nose and voted for Trump because they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Hillary had all voted for a third candidate, the system would have been shaken to its core and things would be well on their way to changing. Same goes for the last election. But it's far to important to the partisan hacks to be the "winner" and stick it to the other guy.

Country second, party first...

Yes, because of the way our system is set up. We can change that. If we want to. Do we want to?
In theory. But, that of course turns on which 3P we might be inclined to support. And perhaps others would seek a (more or less) diametrically opposed 3P. As divided as the electorate appears to be, that seem pretty likely to me.

I don’t favor a Parliamentary system, which is where that could lead.

Reference the OP. I think the "system" is broken beyond repair. I hate to be a doom and gloomer like that, but I don't see any way to fix the mess we have.

You studiously miss the point.

The same politicians whine you suggest should not be re-elected would be no more identifiable as the self serving twats they are even if we had no two party system.

And your claim was that the problem is the two party system. But that appears not to be the case.

I'm not sure why you want to make excuses for yourself for continuing to vote for those who screw you over.

People often point out how I don't actually know if someone I might support will actually be better. I say that is true but if so one can be sure I would never vote to re-elect them if not.

The goal isn't to pick one party and add them to the privileged party list. The point is to change the system so it no longer privileges the dominate parties. Would you support that?

The system isn't the problem

Systems are as good or bad as who run them.
There is at least one glaring systematic problem. No matter how awesome a job any one generation or party does, it can (and most likely will) all be undone by the next party or even by "popular opinion of the voters" in the years after that. When not even the facts are sacred and inarguable? Nothing is.

Not proposing any solutions here. Just trying to get a feel for where are.

Trump's GOP is representing my interests very well. I would love to see the Democratic party split into two.

Two party system needs another party

As always I'm probably in a tiny minority on this, and I know it's going to sound extremely cynical, but I think our country is done. Put a fork in it. And no, to the red helmet wearers, I'm not saying it's all Trump's fault. What's happening has been in the works for a long time. I believe he's a controlled opposition Judas goat who is actually getting "conservatives" to accept and cheer for things they otherwise would never cheer for or accept.

But yeah, unfortunately I think what's going to happen is going to happen, regardless of our "votes" or even if people finally wake up and understand we've been sold down the river.

We have a MANY PARTY SYSTEM. You just hate the results

Let's say an independent wins the presidency. He/she would have to deal with one or the other party, because Independent would never hold a majority. It would be Indie/DemocRAt or Indie/Republican, and we'd be right back where we stand today.
That independent DID win. His name is Donald Trump. The same people will always ***** and moan about this topic

because they aren't given enough coverage. Minimal if any debate, press/media, etc
Its not about the MSM, its about the financial backers.
The two party system is better than any other, by far.
Add in independents who can swing between them and its even better, so it is actually a 3-party system.

I think you misinterpreted my post.
I'm not a Swiss fan, I just showed that in the US there are many political parties.

/—-/ Very funny. President Trump did not run on the Independent ticket. He is a Republican. And you know what I mean.
An independent can run as a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Constitution, Green, or any other of our dozen party system

Trump is as INDEPENDENT as any president we've ever had

you keep dancing around the issue. What in "the system" would you change?
I'm not dancing around anything, douchebag. I'm deliberately avoiding attempts to derail the thread. The question is, do you think we should change it? Or do you think Trump and Harris are great candidates and the two-party system is hunky dory?
