Who Here Has Had Enough of the Two Party System?

Is it time to ditch the two party system?

  • Yes. The two-party pissing match is destroying the country.

  • No. The two party system is good for America.

  • It's different when my side does it!

Results are only viewable after voting.
So, the reason I made this thread a poll, and the reason I've tried to avoid quibbling about specific solutions, is this:
I keep getting in conversations with people about various proposed reforms to our election process and certain people attack any reform. They pretend they have specific criticisms about this or that proposal, when in reality, they just want to maintain the dysfunctional status quo. Because the dysfunctional status quo maintains the dominance of their party. And that's all they really give a shit about.

Your stupid claim now is that I am making excuses. Naturally, you’re wrong yet again.

Why are you running from the point? The problem is not the two party system. The problem is the problematic ethics of some of the politicians being elected. Can’t you concede that your claim has been refuted?

Because it hasn't. The issue is re-electing them. They know no matter how corrupt they will still get re-elected.

With or without a two party system, those folks with problematic ethics will still be the problem. Therefore, you clearly misidentified “the” problem.

Bullshit. But even if true, that’s beside the point.

Stop re-electing them.

Can you give me an example where a three, four, sixty-four, or 3.14 x 10^16 party system is inherently better?
All of the Scandinavian countries BEFORE they became two party systems were the best political systems on this earth. But then they joined NATO and the CIA assasinated Olof Palme.

Not under the current system. You're right.
It's our system. It's a political process that has been going on for more than a century. What you are dreaming about is a freaking miracle that ain't gonna happen. Get off your ass and make the democrat party better or lose your mental TDS illness.

Oh so in your imagination if we get rid of the two party “system,” they will not get re-elected? Not evident how that works. You certainly haven’t explained it (because all you’ve done is make that claim and then merely repeat it).
Stop re-electing them.
🥱

And yep. You just did it again.

IMHO, the two parties have created a stranglehold on the election process in this country. Not particularly good, that, but I also can see how it’s evolving to represent the will of the electorate. Both parties have been taken over by different, newer factions than controlled them in the past. The Republican Party has moved more toward the center as Trump (former democrat) has proven to be its leader/figurehead. The democrats have shifted to the left, embracing socialist/communist rhetoric, as evidenced by the rise of Bernie Sanders, AOC, democratic-socialism, and the next likely mayor of NYC.
In short, there are only two viable parties, but they both are evolving to represent the shifting politically dominant factions of the electorate. Trump won because he’s more centrist and dems are losing because they are taking increasingly more fringe positions.

Great Post! Valid answer why it's an unworkable idea with an already installed 2-party Congress.

Would take decades to root out Deep State Congress. Those who go to drolling in a wheelchair like Diane Crimescene or now the Turtle. Not to mention, 6 year cycles with 1/2 the states permanently crooked like the left coast.//

Close the thread at Orangecat post, you're wasting time.

I'm not dreaming about anything. Just asking if others thinks the current system is serving us well. So far, they don't, 17 - 4. You?
Get off your ass and make the democrat party better or lose your mental TDS illness.
**** the Democrats. You really don't get it, do you?

Quit re-electing them. I understand you can't. You won't and can't and then you can't understand why others want to upset the system.

You are arguing the problem is with those you re-elect.

An independent can run as a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Constitution, Green, or any other of our dozen party system

Trump is as INDEPENDENT as any president we've ever had
/——/ He may govern as an independent, but he’s the leader of the Republican Party.

How is the two party system any different than a three party system? Would love to hear it.
I don't know what a "three party system" is, so I can't really help you.

O.K.

We currently have two parties only......well, there is YOUR party which really isn't much of a party so you throw shade at the others.

I get why too. I think it's gone crazy.

Now, just assume YOUR PARTY actually gets some clout. What happens then?

Not sure what you're going on about. Did you answer the poll?

No. And I guess I won't be answering you or taking you seriously.

You want to whine about the two party system...fine.

What alternatives do you have to offer?
