I'm starting to feel like I live in an alternate universe, reading posts on this site about the two candidates. I mean it's so disheartening, it's making me consider just giving up on forums and discussing politics entirely. And I really hate to say this, but I'm to the point now where I think we (Americans) deserve to lose this country. There are too many gullible people who fall for the same stuff every time, and end up adoring the latest charismatic puppet, to the point of hero worship.

Now I understand why Ben Franklin said the "if you can keep it" part of his famous statement, "A republic, if you can keep it."

Nope, has not been for a while. Right now China holds more sway over them than the US does. But that is all based on trade, and the fact China has the leases on the ports on both sides of the canal

The US threw a temper tantrum after Panama got the canal back and would not play the games the US wanted and has been ignoring Panama ever since. We went 4 years without even having a real Ambassador to Panama, spanning both the Trump and Biden admins.

Agreed. Many on this forum disgust me, as do many dumb Americans. How any thinking American can support what our government is doing in Palestine and Ukraine is crazy. After all the lies government and media have told us since 9/11, and all the horrible death and destruction it’s wrought, only a dupe of the establishment would continue to support this government. Yeah, we have a very long and sordid history there. I am ashamed to admit I was oblivious to much of it till lately. I not long ago read a book about our dealings with Noriega and and am not reading a book about Panama from Occupation to now.

Yep, he was helping us against the Sandinistas the same time we were selling arms to Iran. We pretty much put him in power in Panama. He outlived his usefulness and refused to go quietly into the night. We offered to set him up in any number of countries for life, but he was too afraid of the cartels thought he knew too much to keep alive if he were no longer useful. So, in the end, we invaded Panama and took him out. Oddly enough most Panamanians today still support that move. But afterward we broke most of the promises we made to them to get the new Govt to agree to our invasion.
