Zone1 When Is A Baby Considered Alive?

The American Indians have a word for their God that translates to: The giver of breath.
Hey, if you're not breathing, you're dead.

Why do pro-aborts not want to use the correct term, "human"?
They are forming humans....from conception, before pregnancy has even taken place, which is when the attachment of the fertilized egg to the woman's uterus takes place...about 3 to 4 days after conception.

Personhood, and full independent legal rights as a person, takes place after they are born, and take their first breath of life. These are separate things....

It is not a baby, it is a fetus. The fetus becomes a neonate or newborn at birth.
Second time I have stated this. I am not repeating it again,

So a baby is still a fetus even when it is fully formed inside the womb?

Thank you, that's what I've been saying all along. Life and human being status is immutable biological science that can be quantified. Personhood, OTOH, is a legal term that can be redefined and on which there can be disagreement. Once we agree that the unborn child is a human being, we can have an honest discussion on the relative value of that human life.

I've said this many times, but we have for a long time put varying values on human life, one of the most notorious being on the highways. We gladly accept the loss of thousands of lives every year just because we want to drive fast.

So a baby is still a fetus even when it is fully formed inside the womb?
From my understanding, the lungs are the last organ to fully form in a foetus and are not fully formed until 40 weeks, at birth. Early premature babies born can die, because their lungs are not fully formed when born and mechanical breathing apparatus is not always enough to keep them alive until their lungs are fully formed.

So at nine months pregnant the baby is still a fetus to you?

When is it progeny to you ?

Technically, scientifically, it is still a foetus until birthing, I believe....?

And no one or near zip, have abortions at 9 months, for CHOICE reasons, if that is the malarkey you are falsely implying, right before birth.

The last stage (in the third trimester abortions of pregnancy) abortions are for the health and survival of the mother to be, or the baby to be has major problems that likely won't survive after birthing. These women want their babies to be, to be born, but complications with their pregnancy won't allow such and the women/hubby should never be forced to deliver, in such a case....it must always be the doctor and mom and dad's informed choice on what they do.....not the stupid Big Government's decision!

Why not before? The sperm and egg are alive before they join up.

Because it doesn't become a fetus/offspring until after then. Is it alive at that point? Well that's a bit of a gray area for me because plants are alive and they don't even have a heartbeats but humans need a heartbeat in order to be alive (or hooked up to an artificial machine in order to be) so I honestly don't know about that part. :4_13_65:

Exactly. "Alive" isn't what we're looking for. Everything in the human body is "alive". The question is when a person, with an identity, legal rights, etc ... begins. Traditionally, that's been "birth". But anti-abortion zealots want to change that, to claim that the state has a vested interest before a child is born. To me, that's a really dangerous precedent and, essentially, gives government jurisdiction over the contents of a woman's body.

Then we should be able to legislate that late-term abortions be accompanied with a doctor's statement and signature to the effect that the baby will die after birth and the mother would suffer undue harm. Wouldn't that be fair?

So when a baby kicks, cries, and sucks his or her thumb inside the womb he or she isn't alive?
