What should be done with Sanctuary Cities?

The time has come for a real discussion about these cities. Just how much Federal funding has gone to keep these "cities" functioning?

Should our budget keep and protect people who are not citizens of this country and, by definition, have broken our laws?

We have a deficit and many want more and more government intervention into their affairs, costing astronomical amounts of money. We have a deficit. We have to cut back and foolishly susidizing those illegals that broke our laws to come is nonsensical.

How do you feel?

Can't do shit.

Remember, smaller Federal Government, stay out of state business.

Can't have it both ways, losers.

DOJ Rewards Law-Breaking Sanctuary Cities, States with $342 Mil in “Grants”

Apparently this doesn’t apply to local governments that support the president’s broad open borders policies, even when they violate federal law. The DOJ doled out $342,168,401 to 10 sanctuary states and cities that proudly reject federal claims for criminal illegal aliens earmarked for removal, according to the agency’s independent watchdog.

Among them is Connecticut, a trailblazer in the sanctuary movement that received more than $69 million in grants from the DOJ. Connecticut has long protected illegal immigrants with sanctuary policies and even offers them special drivers’ licenses, known as Drive Only. The state also gives illegal aliens discounted tuition at public colleges and universities and authorities work hard to restrict the feds from deporting illegal immigrants. Last year an illegal immigrant who had spent 17 years in prison for attempted murder stabbed a 25-year-old woman to death in Norwich, a city of about 40,000 residents. The murderer had been earmarked for deportation at least three times.

$342 M,, that would pay for the wall and have money left over for ICE and Border Patrol! That worked out very well.... Wish I was on Trumps Advisory Board! ;)

All estimates of the cost of a "wall" say that it'll cost exponentially more than 342 million dollars.

Not to mention, the idea that the DOJ would stop handing out grants to the states you don't like is ludicrous.
Did you not hear? The wall is now a fence, and next month will be the honor system.

Cut federal funding to the Sanctuary Cities. Let's see how strongly they feel about protecting criminal illegals when they have to use their own money to do so.

What happen to GOP being for state rights and local gov??? Now you are cool wh the Feds forcing local govs to be Ins agents ? On their own tab ?

They're breaking federal law Timmy.
It's no different than the fed with holding highway funds from Louisiana when they didnt want to raise the drinking age.
Precedent has already been set...to bad Timmy.

This is an opportunity to expose Rahm Emanuel and the rest of these Liberal extremist leaders. Trump should create an infrastructure and jobs training program contingent upon cooperation with deportation of known CRIMINAL illegals.

If Rahm and the other Liberal leaders refuse, then they have told the people in their city illegal immigrants are more important than they are.

Back in the day, hobos riding the rail would leave a special mark next to the houses of those who gave them stuff, thus alerting the other hobos in regards to an easy mark.

Today's grandstanding mayors who are announcing so clearly that they wish to be a haven for undocumented criminals are erecting a similar mark on their city.

Good grief, some people can be pretty stupid when it comes to cause and effect. If you were a criminal here illegally, where would YOU go -- "Portland/SanFrancisco/ Seatle" which have laid out their welcome mat or a city that hasn't?

Nothing should be done. Well strip them of the federal funds given to them to enforce federal immigration laws.

We are having our first snow of the year in the Rockies. Maybe we should just let the winter months take care of the protesters, as it will. They are "good weather" demonstrators. No cold, damp and wet weather for them!

Let's see. Who pays taxes?

Democrat supporters who leech off the taxpayer = no

Big government "programs" where the money disappears and helps nobody = no

Lawyers = no, they just take the existing pile of money and redistribute it to themselves

REPUBLICANS pay taxes. Businesses pay taxes. Individuals who WORK pay taxes.
Democrats pay taxes, Illegals pay taxes, and those are included in "Individuals who work".

That is the best answer I have heard yet. However, keep in mind that a sanctuary city doesn't represent the whole state. Other parts of the state might be enforcing Federal Immigration laws so yo wouldn't want to penalize them. Further, distribution of Federal funds starts from the State level, not the municipal level. In most cases punitive access by the feds to the sanctuary city is buffered by the state in which it is located.

If the state refuses to allocate the money as the feds want, then the feds, ie Trump doesn't have to give them shit.

States can NOT be given money just as easily as cities.

Seems pretty simple to me. If Denver PD arrests a guy, lets just call him Nigel Churchill and find that he is a British citizen who is here illegally on an expired visa and was arrested for..lets say Criminal trespassing…If they Notify ICE to come and get him they should be reimbursed for however long it takes the feds to come and get Nigel but they shouldn’t let him go since he is breaking the law. If they let him go, knowing he is here illegally; whoever made the decision to let him go should be charged with dereliction of duty for starters.

Every illegal Mexican immigrant is a criminal, as entering the USA without the proper credentials is a crime.

If you disagree you are retarded

I can’t understand why there is nobody being held accountable. If you are here illegally, you should be arrested. If you let a person known to be here illegally go, you should be arrested for doing so.

I recall the estimated amolunt for the wall has been $100M. Grants should not be given to cities that are breaking the law.

I'd love to see that "estimate".

Just the amount of concrete needed would cost more than a billion dollars.

And there's no law against sanctuary cities.

They are called Sanctuary Cities because they are defying Federal Law. Of course there are laws against Sanctuary Cities.

Cost of the barrier will be about $3 billion, over $1billion was already allocated and spent by Congress in the Secure Fence Act of 2006.
